Looking at my profile, i have 750 out of 1850 points, so what are these points for?
According to the premium content i have 0 points, so what good are these 750 points for?

Absolutely nothing. I think they are there to take dev time away from the game. I know I like nothing more than having devs spending time creating these systems and fixing the bugs on them instead of working on gameplay.

Metatheurgist is right. You can't buy DLC or do anything practical with those points. It's just a system for measuring achievements, like all those pretty icons (on the PC).
