Ok, so I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy KOTOR for the PC for the Steam Price of $10. So I need honest help deciding whether or not it's worth it $10. Any opinions would be great, as would information on the length of the game. Thanks for any input.

It's easily worth ten dollars. The game is longer than Mass Effect and packed with many quests. There are several varied locations to visit, a memorable cast of characters, drama and surprises woven into a plot that feels like classic Star Wars.

Combat is resolved in realtime but governed by dice rolls behind the scenes. There are six classes total. Three for mere mortals and three Jedi classes. KotOR is one of BioWare's better games. Its graphics might seem a little dated by today's standards but it's still a pretty game on PC. Just don't expect current gen visuals from it.

;) I didn't start gaming until several years after KOTOR and I was more of a fantasy RPG player/FPSer at the beginning. I didn't start considering it until after I finished ME2 because my BW library only consists of JE, DA:O, ME, and ME2.

Yes get it. It is a little dated at this point but its worth it.

One day I will need to actually finish it :(

Tthats not because its bad but I have this problem of being distracted easily. It took me over a year to finish a playthru of Mass Effect and that was only because ME2 was coming out in a few weeks so I wanted a save to import.

It's not that dated. I played it for the first time about a year ago and I absolutely loved it. The graphics didn't bother me at all. In fact, I really loved the choreographed animations they used for lightsabers. Extremely good game. I only paid $6 for mine, it's obviously worth much much more than that, gamplay and quality-wise.

I bought it twice last year. First on D2D than a physical copy. It's that good.

In fact, during the first week I had the game, I was having an allergic reaction to my step's new cat so my eyes were in hell, and the game only ran in a 1024x768 box in the middle of my screen making it worse for my eyes(widescreen mod doesn't work with the digital release AFAIK), and I was still playing.

Well, I just bought it, so now I gotta wait for it to download. Always fun, downloading massive files.

Oh, I didn't know the widescreen mod didn't work with digital downloads. No matter, I'll just take pieces of black paper around the edges and pretend its a fullscreen monitor :)

You will have to fart around if you are using a wide-screen monitor.

I just put in that it is dated because it is pushing 7 or 8 years old. I do not agree with them but there is that group of gamers that think a good game must have graphics that are SUPER OMG AWESOMESAUCE!!!!!!
I am not part of that group. Proof being I dragged my Sega Genesis into work and we are tearing up some General Chaos when we have the time. http://www.google.co...67c3568f2eec009

Heck I think the Steam KotOR is worth buying and I already own the game. Given that I consider the Steam convenience in and of itself to be worth ten dollars, I think you can conclude that the game is worth more than that. :)

I've been replaying it myself these days... definitely worth $10 dollars. It's funny when you see in retrospect how BioWare has constantly been improving it's techniques, especially companion mechanics and such. And when you see how they have a fondness for same voice actors over and over again. ^_^

Not at all.
I run in 1024x768 on a 1600x900 monitor and it doesn't actually look that bad.

I can't stand it, it looks too compressed, 16:10 or nothing here.

There's a wide-screen gamer website for many older titles such as this.

Yup, and it's completely automated process for KotOR, just don't change anything before you apply it. Fix exists for Steam version as well. Game is actually FAR from looking seriously dated, although modern technologies (fancy shadows, bloom, lip sync, etc) are absent, they're mostly eye candy. Nothing important is missing.

lol I am just a cheap bastard. This 18 inch crt has served me well for 10 years :)

Just waiting for my tax refund since this would be the first time in many years I can actually use it to treat myself instead of paying off bills.
