I've noticed two problems with the sound in the PC version.

When in the Precidium, there is a frequent burst of static that occurs whenever I walk.

All the sounds in the Flux are gone, music, sound effects, dialogue, etc. All can hear is a wirring noise.

Please be advised that I am using the Steam version, not the disk, so the folders will be a bit differant.

Is there a way to fix this?

Generally the "ISACT" system in Mass Effect 1 is very iffy with onboard sound cards and some drivers. I had immense problems in Windows xp64. You may wish to try updating these drivers, and or toggling "Hardware sound" in Mass Effect configuration.

If it is really aggrivating I can only suggest another soundcard, or if you don't like to get too technical, I use a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Go which plugs into a USB port and works quite nicely with Mass Effect for me.
