[OC] Oghren isn't showing up.

Since seeing Oghren's argument with the guard in the Diamond Quarter, I've been checking the tavern several times to see if he's there, because I distinctly remember meeting him there the first time I played. But he hasn't showed up.
No big deal, I think, and now I'm moving on to the deep roads.. only that.. Oghren isn't showing up. Nothing. Zip. Nada. Nothing happens. Oghren is nowhere to be seen.
Running the latest patch, have Awakening installed.
What gives?

- I came to Orzammar.
- I talked to the representatives of Harrowmont and Bhelen, got their quests.
- I watched the scene with the guard and Oghren. I talked to the guard.
- I went to tapsters and talked to the relevant man in Bhelen's questline. Oghren was not there. I shrugged.
- I realized that Lady Dace was in the diamond quarter and went back to talk to her.
- I talked to her and went off to the Aeducan Thaig. I did not talk to Lord Dace, but cleared everything else.
- I went to the Proving Grounds. Did everything and claimed the battle in Harrowmont's name.
- I met Harrowmont.
- I went and stabbed Jarvia repeatedly with pointed objects, and hit her over the head with a shield.
- I went back to Harrowmont.
- I realized Harrowmont wanted me dead, because now he sent me to the deep roads.
- I went to the deep roads and nowhere between the previous step and here, Oghren showed up as he's supposed to.
I would love to continue playing today, but it's already getting late. Sunday 17:35 here.

Nope. Never used runscript partyselect (on this character). Oghren is not at Tapsters' or anywhere else and does not appear when I use the regular partyselect (he does, however, appear if I use the runscript partyselect command, but that comes with it's own fair share of caveats and possibly bugs, as you seem to be aware, and doesn't solve the issue of the encounter not triggering).darkizzle wrote...
(copy/pasta) You used the runscript partyselect command, which bugs Oghren. Since there's nothing you can do about that now, enter Tapsters then leave and use partyselect. Oghren should be there.

It is fairly obvious that there's a problem with the trigger(s). I have no desire to make a dwarf I don't know in any way magically appear next to me and follow me around for no apparent reason at all, complaining about how he doesn't want to talk to me.darkizzle wrote...
Be that as it may, he's bugged, and the only way to have him in your party without him being completely bugged (as is the case runscript addparty or something else I forget) is with that little loophole. Yes, he won't appear with the normal party picker, but with the cheat just add him to the party and there won't be anything wrong with him. I've gone through this bug three times and its only not happened when I never used partyselect at all. I don't know what broke with yours. At that point the encounter will never trigger. Take it or leave it.
It should be possible to trigger or reset the event by removing whatever trigger the game thinks occurred(sp?) by using the toolset to edit the savegame, but all triggers I can find appears nondescript. There has to be a proper solution to this, since it keeps one of the major characters of the game, so "major" that they decided to take him into the "expansion".
I can see the scenario in front of me right now. Playing through the entire OC without meeting or talking to Oghren, only to have him turn up in Awakening and act like we're the greatest pals ever.

If I could fix it myself, I would. Oh god, how I would.darkizzle wrote...
You seem to know so much, why don't you fix it yourself? Anyway, the cheat is listed in the wiki as the one breaking the Oghren encounter.

But yeah, I know it breaks the Oghren encounter and possibly stuff that has to do with Loghain. Hence why I make a point not to use it. I didn't even have the console turned on until after I ran into this issue and then, only to try and find a solution to it.

After finishing "A Lord's Trust: The First Task", the quest "A Prince's Favour: The First Task" is automaticly dropped and Lord Dace disappears from the Aeducan Thaig.Lilisia wrote...
Have you tried going back to aeducan thaig and speaking with the lord there, and completeing that part of the quest? Maybe the game is waiting for you to finish that part before allowing Ogren to appear?
Because not having him results in all kinds of glitchyness and I'd truly and utterly hate for him to magically show up out of nowhere later, acting buddy-buddy, when I haven't seen him in my whole life.Lilisia wrote...

I've never had it before, but this would only be my third or fourth instance of playing the game past this point.mcomommy wrote...
I haven't run into this before. Has this been happening a lot, or just since the last patch?
But there are reports of the issue as far back as release. If it's the same cause, I don't know, but I don't see a reason to suspect that it's exclusively a 1.03 issue. Maybe 1.03 made it worse? I don't know.

But here I am, unable to continue, with an unplayable state, with a 5-month-old bug to which there are seemingly no solution. But you don't even have the gut to actually say that there isn't one, or confess that you aren't even working on one. It's just broken and you have no intention whatsoever of fixing it, or helping me fix it myself. The EA "help" is equally useless, with zero-to-nil help and pre-canned answers, again with no committment to actually helping or supporting your products.
"Fire and forget" is your new tune and you play it well.
I'm glad that I don't have any of your jobs. Because if I did, I'd have to live my life in constant shame over the sub-par hodge-podge I spew out in order to make a profit from the unsuspecting. The ones that haven't really gone all the way to the "dark side" yet and realized that you are absolutely nothing more than a soulless husk anymore.
I hope you, all your co-workers and their families die horrible deaths in the near future, either due to a variety of wasting venearal diseases or seperate-but-related car crashes, preferably involving several kinds of industrial waste.
I'm sickened by what you're doing. Doubly so because you don't even seem ashamed to do it.
Screw you.
