wow, thanks just about given up on bring down the sky this worked like a charm. So sad that your required to regedit a game in 2011. I realize this game is 2005ish but no patch for something like this.... really.

EA/BioWare should pay you for this, seriously. It is a sad state of affairs, many multi-platform games have the PC versions suffering from odd problems like this and worse. Microsoft changes things but can't think of ramification for every program so I am letting them off the hook for these issues. But the game developers are just getting lazy not putting out patches to get these games to work on newer systems. PC gamers are getting the short end of the stick here, just because it is easier to make games for consoles.

P.S. also having problems with Batman:AS and Assassin's Creed 2 that make those games unplayable and those much newer games. So this trend irks me greatly.

Did everything as told, Administrator launch of the .exe file and everything, Task-Manager etc. etc. - and still ERROR regarding install (using Windows Vista here btw). Oh well, guess i'll have to skip that part, though i would've loved to see how it'll all sums up in ME3. At least i have all the DLC from ME2 now, except the useless one with the different outfits.

I hope you find this post quickly and it saves you minutes or hours of frustration. I hope even more that Bioware does something about this obvious gap in the management of their DLC for this title.

Thank you very very very much! If only I'd found this post sooner.

Hi All,

Sorry it's been a while since I've checked in here. I see that people are still finding this post helpful. I also see Bioware STILL hasn't done anything to address this issue...

First some quick responses -

Can you email me the installer you're using? Send it to bdtsappfix@yahoo.com so I can run it on my machine and see what it's doing.
- Zesban

I don't understand...the installer is the DLC itself and it's over 300 megabyte big. How could I possibly e-mail something this large? Maybe it's a misunderstanding...

GODzilla_GSPB, just any information you can provide about the installer you're using would be good then. For instance this is the version I developed this against...

File Name-
MassEffect_BDtS_ES_a.exe

Also, can you walk me through how you obtained your copy of the BDtS installer? Was it through Bioware's DLC download process or from a third party location?

I cant find the "Look for the key HKLM\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\(*Wow6432Node)\\\\Electronic Arts\\\\Electronic Arts\\\\Bring Down the Sky" part and im using windows 7 64bit...
I dont know how to create the node as well as i dont want to mess up my whole OS.
Installing BDTS is seriously frustrating.

SithLordExarKun, might I recommend you try to email me at bdtsappfix@yahoo.com for a copy of the application that does this process for you? I will be checking that email again for at least the next week.

Kubaxx, you might also want to try the application that I've written. While both this process and the application that does this for you are developed for Windows 7, you might be able to get it to work with Vista as well. Again, email me at bdtsappfix@yahoo.com for a copy of the application.

I'm glad this is still working out for so many people. I hope that there's a sponsored fix released for this problem soon since with my new position I won't have any near as much time to support this process going forward. Thank you everyone for your patience and I hope that those who are still having issues can get them resolved.

*UPDATE*
WOW! I just got through all of the pending requests for a copy of the application. I'm sorry I haven't checked that queue since the New Year, so if you had a request in for the application check your email! I'm going to look in to another free file host, you all shouldn't have to wait for me to respond to get that application.

   - Zesban

*UPDATE 2*
Ok, I've now got the file uploaded to http://www.filedropper.com/fixbdts (submitted 02/16/2011). Please report in if this link does not work or becomes broken. Read the page carefully to make sure you are clicking the RIGHT download button.

I have never posted to these forums before and don't plan to make a habit of it, but this really needs to be on the front page forever. Thanks for all your work, man--this just saved me hours of ragin' at video games.

Dude, this worked! Thanks!

Btw, how did you figure out all the registry keys required to work; and how did you know the BDTS code process had to be terminated?

Research. Lot's of research. All of this information was out there but it was scattered. Plus I had a little intuition and some knowledge with PCs to help. (See my post on the application I wrote to do this process for you.) But since it wasn't in one easy to find place I decided to put it together for the community.

I'm glad it's still helping people out.

As Isaac Newton said "If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants."

Also, I've fixed the file link all, it should once again work! http://www.filedropper.com/fixbdts

This is not working for me (both app and manual) it still gives the game could not start error when validating licence this is really getting me upset I want to reinstall my legal DLC with my legal game (btw I am using Win 7 Ultimate x64 Steam Mass Effect and I redownloaded BTDS to make sure my old copy was not the issue also installed Pinnacle Station with no problem or 1.02)

I contacted EA Live Support and they had me fixed up in min.

I'd like to add my thanks also. After overcoming my initial reading comprehension issues (due to frustration and lack of sleep on a work night), I was finally able to make ME1 recognize The DLC.

Edit: Why hasn't this thread been stickied yet?

Brilliant guide. However when I get to the Code screen, I close the process on task manager and then the installer appears. It gets stuck at this screen, asking me to "Re-enter and verify your Registration Code". So I did but it this same screen appears again and again.

I'm absolutely sure I followed te guide step by step. Any clues? :)

P.S. I've installed Mass Effect on my xp machine, all good, just wanting this dlc installing as well. I've already used the code from the Bioware page (I hear this has now been taken down? :() on my win7 machine, which worked.

So I got another DLC code from EA live chat, the only thing is it didn't work, said the code had already been used. I used both this method of the registry edit as well as the one you linked, still no luck. Should I ask EA live for another code? :P

Edit: Okay, talked to EA live chat once again and gave me the same code, but this time it worked! Yay! Posted Image

Ok, I can now confirm that the Registry hack worked for me and my key that I got 3 times from EA Tech Support. They didn't know what was wrong and nothing they suggested trying worked.  So, the Bioware Community/Forum comes through again for me! I can access "Asteroid X57" now, so I'm counting this one as solved...for the time being.

Thanks, folks, you're all life-savers!:D  And wizards::wizard:

Frustratingly, this is not working for me... :/
I get the code to appear in the Key Entry window, but I still get the failed install error...

EDIT:
Stays at "validating licence" and then goes on to can not install error.
