It's not working for me either. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Step 2. in the guide (the one that goes to account.bioware.) just takes me to the Bioware homepage and when I log it I just go to my own account and can't do anything regarding Mass Effect 1. =S

I talked with Bioware support last night, the guide, as well as the sites have made the old method outdated. I talked to a Customer Support rep last night, 2 actually, and the first gave me a BDtS CD Key, didn't even want my ME1 Key, the second told me that there is an error in the DLC that is working on being fixed. I thought I'd be able to get around it using the registry hack, but it still would not work.

So yeah, get a key from Bioware support, I think they might all be the same key, but I don't want to post it here for fear of being banned. Give this guide a shot, but you might not be more successful than me. If you get it to work, please post haha.

Which worked? Did you have to hack your registry? Or did just getting a key work? Which version of Windows do you have?

Thanks man.

Just used your method and worked almost the same, only difference was the cd key was blank on the installer, i closed it anyway and then was prompted to give it later by the installer

Might be helpful to actually include some details as to how EA Tech Support managed to resolve your issue. :innocent:

Deal with EA support. If you cant be bothered telling us exactly what the problem is, we cant be bothered helping you out.

Hey All,

I don't check in here too often anymore. Sorry to hear that this process has gotten more difficult for people. I hate to say it but if the walk through and app aren't solving your problem your best bet is to work with EA Support. They've been quite helpful when I've worked with them in the past so I can say that you'll probably have a good experience with them.

As for the cd key link, it appears Bioware is no longer maintaining the database of keys for ME1. So if you did not write down or otherwise record your key when it was issued you'll have to contact EA Support. It sounds like they'll hand them out easily enough. Not like they should care, this was originally free content...

I'll try to update the main post in the next few weeks. I can't believe this post has been around for over a year already and yet it's still needed by the community. Best of luck getting to the asteroid all!

Sadly, I went to an inordinate amount of trouble and finally got BDtS working. Even more sadly: it was a *cough* complete waste of time. It was "ok", but it should have been included in the original game. I'm grateful for the extra content, and all the help I received on the topic, but the reward wasn't nearly enough to make up for the aggravation.

Three goals, and then another added during gameplay, and it's not justifiable to really call it "additional content". It's more of a "I've got to have everything, so I'm getting this DLC if it drives me insane" kind of endeavor. It's decent, but not earth-shattering (no pun intended).

Decided to try this, since I was in the mood to do a ME1 playthrough. Discovered that the installation will succeed on a 64 bit Win7Pro machine without the Bring Down the Sky registry entry. So long as you have a valid ME1 CD key entry in the expected location within your registry(which I did not, had to add it manually) and a valid BDtS key to input into the installer, the install will complete successfully. Did not have to add both keys, but still an excellent find, and more than a little amusing that this thread has been so recently resurrected.

Thank you so much for this, after about 2 hours of wrestling with the installer on Win 7 64 bit and reinstalling ME through steam this did the trick. There was one additional step, however - the installer that's hosted on bioware kept giving me an error saying that it didn't support the english version, so I had to download an older version of the installer from a third party website to get rid of that error. These steps worked just fine for that installer too though.

I'm glad it worked! Can you provide a link to that installer's location?

Thanks,

it all works perfectly UNTIL:

"There seems to be a problem contacting the license server. Ensure your internet connection is active and try again in a few minutes."

-.-

It's active... I've tried again... it seems to happen every time, and since I'm using this hack, I'm not game to get livechat help for this.

I just spoke with customer service for the activation limit problem. I got nothing, but an apology and they said that they are hoping to have a fix soon. In the meantime, I guess that leaves me unable to play. =/
