I was also having this problem, but the solution posted here seemed too complicated and so I contacted EA Support. (I used that browser-based chat they have.) The operator gave me my CD key (since I couldn't find it at Bioware's web page), did something in his computer and told me to wait 24h before trying to install it. It worked just fine.

Note for all posters: Confirmed that this process works on Win7 Pro 64-bit with digital (Origin) versions of both ME and Pinnacle Station installed. All versions (including Origin) are for/from the US region.

Note for zesban: You're awesome! :)
I don't know how often you check this thread but you've saved me so much time and I am grateful. (I've been working with EA customer service for nearly three months now, no joke almost three, to resolve install/validation issues with ME and its DLC since they stopped working suddenly at one point :P and using your process and application just solved in under three minutes what EA hadn't solved in months. Thank you again).

Right let me start off by saying I only just downloaded this DLC and I hadn't a clue you had to have a CD Key for it rather than the one you used to install ME. It really irritates me that content that was supposed to be free is giving me this much trouble as I don't even know how to obtain Bring Down The Sky CD Key. Do I email EA support here in Australia or do I try Bioware Support?

I don't know if anyone's already asked and resolved this issue so sorry for repeating the inquiry.

Hippaforalkus, you do need to contact EA Support, they're usually pretty easy to work with though. Start at http://support.ea.com/ and login and use the Contact Us option. Their live chat support agent should be able to help.

RoseLegion, glad I could help!

am i missing something here? i followed your steps manually, but when i close the key window via task manager the installer doesnt continue, it still tries to validate the cd key and tells me that the key doesnt work. but its correct, i got this one from the live chat 2 days ago. i also tried the program you wrote, but im ending up in the same error.

Edit: okay nevermind, i contacted live chat support again, and after i got the same cd key again, they just said they try to fix it, after that the key worked!

I hate to be the guy that "bumps" his own post, but since I've seen in other threads that this has helped people as recently as yesterday I'm posting to get this back to the first page. Maybe someday this post might be stickied, but then maybe that's crazy.

It could have helped me, but you need to have a code for it - which I don´t anymore :D (should have written it down the first time :/).

Anyway, live support agent told me to contact them again in 2-3 days time, cuz they don´t have any codes anymore :D
Curious if I´ll get a functioning code then!

Thanks for your help anyway :)

Okay, got a new code and did this, seems to be installing! Thank you very much (wouldn´t have been that bad if I didn´t have already started a game with the DLC, so it doesn´t let me continue without it being installed ...).

OK, just contacted EA support and he said they are not offering those keys anymore...

is just being an ass or what?

this free stuff is too hard to get... i would pay to have an easy and quick cd key on EA Store...

should i keep trying with another supporter more friendly before following the steps on the first post

BTW, i use Steam so this might be different

According Bogs, the different techs have different ways of answering. Some voluntarily offer numbers, some tell you what the one just said, it varies, Bogs says, so try again for a different tech.

Well I've tried 14 different ppl 2 diiferent over the phone, I've uninstalled/reinstalled 24 times and done clean boot 4 times, to still get installation failed @ validating license files.
I really don't unstand the work around here.
But, I've noticed my ME game key is not listed in the Game Config Utility is there a easy way of putting it there I've even asked EA this and they never answer this and usually say try clean boot and if u having any trouble contact us again the jusat dissconnect,

All I find is to go to the Bioware page to register Mass Effect and you'll see your registration keys - odd part is that you CAN'T register ME on the site. O_o' isn't even listed anywhere to do so. Yet the dlc page itself for Bring Down the Sky says to do so. All pages I find just take me to Bioware to login, then once I do it just takes me to my profile. W IN THE F.. and yes, when I first reinstalled ME after a year, the DLC did have a cd key already in it but it didn't work [I read that some people the cd key appeared already there and worked]. SIGH.. T_T

If you bothered reading the thread that is stickied up the top of the forum, you would have the answer and explanation to your problem.

Yeah, I did read it - I just feel there has to be another option than to risk demolishing your registry just to install a games DLC.. <_<

??  demolishing the registry??  I don't see in the sticky anywhere it says to even mess with the registry.  Now this thread has that, but not the sticky about BDtS.

Well, the install appeared to have worked...Now to test the theory. According to all your previous responses, it works well. Here's hoping. If it worked as it seemed, you have my thanks.

Omg I love you. I'm a bit late on the ME craze, and on DLC's (now that I have money to spare on things like games) and a complete computer noob, but this was quick and easy and it worked like a breeze.

My Bring down the Sky installer keeps telling me "Mass Effect is not found" I've played through the game several times. This is a new install, and yes. It is through steam.

It worked for me Zesban, ty. Even though I am not sure if it is all necessary, especially editing the regedit. However using the taskmanger worked to get around it.

I've tried Zesban's method as well as this one:
http://social.biowar...7672044#7684754

...and nothing works. I still get the message about the activation limit being reached. Any ideas?
