For those like resolvegamer and me who are behind a firewall, there is a program named like DataUpdater.exe which is run during the installation process. It needs inter connection in order to validate your CD-key. Nothing special, except that is is a temporary executable. Therefore a *pain in the ass* for those using a strict firewall configuration (connections blocked by default and rules set by service or program).

I couldn't create a rule for it before the installation stopped with a connection failed dialog box, so I have done one with any program using TCP connections. I limited its activation from the "bring_down_the_sky.exe" shutdown to the start of actual files installation.

I hope that this could help frustrated advanced windows users.

I am having trouble installing mass effect on my pc, i have exchanged it 3 times from the shop i bought it at. I'm running win7 Pemeium OEM 64bit, 6gig of ddr3 ram, nvidia GT430 1 gig card, the problem being after i type in the game key from the pack i keep getting the message "Installation Cancelled" the installation of Mass Effect has been cancelled. To run the installer again run setup." Like i said i have tried 3 copies of the game and the same thing. I have already got mass effect2 installed and runs sweet. i've tried compatibility mode, running as admin. i,ve done disk check, defraged the hard drive. Can anyone help please.

Ugh.

Add me to the list of people with BDtS install problems. Currently following the OP instructions to the T, however it hasn't solved my problem. My issue seems to be that when I can input the CD key, the installation goes as normal. However, once install completes Windows 7 pops up a message saying "program may not have installed correctly". Even when I click "Yes, it DID!", BDtS is apparently absent from my game. I've had this same exact problem with every single ME and ME2 DLC pack that I've downloaded, but the saving grace of the other DLC's is that I can just click "reinstall" and they work fine after that. Not the same with BDtS, as after the first try it cancels itself on subsequent installations.

Tried running as administrator, XP compatibility mode, downloading the pack over again... no avail..

If I never have to do this again, it will be too soon, but despite my reservations, this worked for me, thx for providing it.

Many many thanks to Zesban. Was a little hesitant about adding crap into my registry, but sucked it up and went for it. Worked like a charm! Got the installation process to work without any issues. Thanks :D

Amazing. After trying to get the EAhelpers to fix this problem for three days and a couple of hours, I was able to fix this dlc problem using this post. Thank you very much!

Even following the advice in this thread I have been unable to get the DLC to work. I attempted it manually, following the OP and using a key I got from EA support (they're the ones who directed me here) but that didn't work, so I tried the program Zesban wrote, and still no luck. EA sent me another code and a new link to download the DLC, but still no luck.
I usually get the "Installation Cancelled message" after validating license file, or on the rare occasion I get past that, it installs properly, then informs me that it may have not installed correctly, and then the installation is cancelled.
I would be grateful for any help. The steps seem to work so well for others, there must be some reason why mine won't work :)

Holy crap man, looks like it worked for me (the OP post). At least it actually INSTALLED. I just finished ME3 and am planning a second career playthrough, switching gender (I hear Jennifer Hale's performance is not to be missed) and was PISSED that BDTS wasn't working.

Seriously Bioware, how tough would it be to create an origin installer for this (like with Pinnacle Station) or to incorporate BDTS into the ME1 install process? Come on.

There is no one at all from Bioware visiting here.  Never has been, on this site.

+1 !!!!!! so much time saved following this post !! I LOVE YOU !!! :D

Oh and btw, you can get your BDtS cd key on EA/origins website just go to the help section, find the search bar and type in "Bring down the sky cd key" and then it pops up with a key that any one can use.
Worked for me while using the info on how to regedit it on this page :)

Got sick of waiting for EA support so I gave it a try with my old key. This still works (win7-64). You rock!!!
