I am finally able to play ME1 after going though many little problems like cofiguration utility and no intrenet access, and i was all fired up when i saw the game begin to start. but then i ran into a few things that did not look right.
First: at the begin of the game where your looking at a world (i believe Earth) the game tells you to "press any Key" well the top part of the planets clouds seem to be alittle pixelated or bolcky, or even can be describe as a bunch of square shape. is this normal? if not does anyone know how to fix?
(note this is my first time playing ME1 so i have no idea how the game should look. just seeing if the little things i notice are srcew ups)
Second: the highest resoulution the game has is 1680x1050(16:9), is there a way to increase this? cuz my computer can go up too 1920x1080(60)
Third: i've notice a little fuzzyness in everything on screen almost though out the game so far. its like watching an old black and white movie with color and not haveing the random black spots or strips. the best i can describe it is just being fuzzy. (i believe this problem may be connected with my first about the clouds)
Finally: i've notice that when ppl are talking in the world around me i have to get really close to try to understand what the are saying. suck as in the begning of the game on the Normandy, i've finished talking with Joker about going to see the captin. on my way to see the captin ppl are talking amonst themself and i can hardly hear what they are saying to each other. it also happens when members of my squad are talking to each other, its not like their far away or anthing because they are standing right behind me. is this how it is in the game and if not how can i reslove?
If you can help me it would be much obliged
Resolution and a little sound problem.

The default graphics are intentionally slightly fuzzed for some kind of effect. Turn off the "film grain" to see what it looks like without the effect. Second, there is a difference between the theoretical maximum that a display screen offers, and the performance capability of various video cards to run games at any particular resolution.
The game's official system requirements are practically just a bad joke, with any named ATI Radeon card probably wrong.
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6 series(6800GT or better)
(Here's the original, so _stupid_ error)
ATI 1300XT or better (X1550, *X1600 Pro*, and HD2400 are below minimum system requirements)
(The X1300 XT is jist an X1600 Pro with another name!)
If there really is a need for a 6800 GT (a 6800 GS is probably really adequate), then the minimum Radeon is the X1650 XT, or an X1800.
What video card do you have? And don't waste any great amount of time with any detailed answer if you only have an onboard video chip, since you aren't supposed to run this game on any such thing.

I just got myself a 1920x1080 monitor and I can run Mass Effect at that resolution.
I'm surprised that my Geforce 9600 GT even got a decent framerate at that resolution. It's usually around 40 and occasionally drops to 28 but most of the time it's smooth. I half expected my GPU to blow up or something.

Don't forget that it's the same card that was at first introduced as an 8800 GS, so instead of the usual 128 bit memory system, and relatively narrow bandwidth (for an "n600" Mainline Game card), it still has 256 bit memory, so it can move larger blocks of textures in and out, as required for higher resolutions.

It has roughly half as many Shader Units as the 8800 GT, and 32 Texture Units instead of 56.

You mentioned that and that was my conclusion as well but I'm still a little surprised. When I run Mass Effect 2 at 1600x900 I don't notice a framerate decrease at all compared to 1280x1024.
Back on topic: About the main menu intro, Earth always looks like crap. I haven't noticed blocky clouds, though. Are the graphics very bad in-game as well? Note that some textures, like clothing and Garrus' face, can look very bad. I don't know if the ugly clothing was in the 360 version as well but Garrus' face is definitely a PC exclusive. Low-res textures can also be fixed by restarting the game but I guess you already tried that.
Hardware specs, including sound card, would certainly help.

Earth is always blocky, even on ultra-high textures. A pet peeve of mine.
I am fairly sure Mass Effect can run at 1920x1080. Go inside the game (not the config utility) and then in the settings->graphics menu, try and pick a resolution there. Be careful, you can actually scroll the list, and 1920x1080 is usually at the bottom.
There is a fan-fix for Garrus' face, but it is a little technical to implement (http://social.biowar...-1495506-1.html).
I had an issue where I could only hear people when I was facing them -- I determined this issue to be my sound setup configured to 4-speaker output when in fact I only had stereo (2 speaker) sound. You may wish to check this.
