Dragon Age Awakenings - Installation Failed Error
#1

I have purchased and downloaded DAO Awakenings for PC via the EA Download Manager from the EA Store and have attempted to install numerous times without success.
I'm using a PC running windows Vista.
I read that I needed to update to patch 1.0.3 before installing Awakenings and when I opened DAUpdater.exe, there was a splash screen with a link to download the latest patch.
Prior to the first attempt to install Awakenings, I installed patch 1.0.3 with no problem from the website link.
I then downloaded Awakenings using the EA Download manager and I was not able to complete the installation process. Is that the problem? Do I need to uninstall the patch 1.0.3 somehow to enable the Awakenings install file to re-install it? It seems to be stuck at the point where it is attempting to install patch 1.0.3 and i have not been able to proceed any further in the installation process.
I then tried completely uninstalling Dragon Age Origins in the hopes that that would solve the problem installing Awakenings.
Unfortunately when I uninstalled Origins, the original installation files were not retained in the EA Download Manager cache and had to be completely downloaded again (which took a full day to download) and reinstalled Origins with no problem. I assume that it was installed without the patch 1.0.3
I did this and the end result is exactly the same issue - the installation of Origins proceeded with no problem but the installation of Awakenings freezes at the point where it is attempting to apply the patch 1.0.3 and I get the "Installation Failed" screen.
I tried adjusting the setup.exe file properties to compatibility for Windows 2000 (the setup.exe file within C:/ProgramData/EACore/Cache/EADM/{username}/dragonage_ep1_eu1 ) - however, this has absolutely no effect.
Is that the correct file? I could not locate any Setup.exe file in the other subfolders of the EACore/Cache. I adjusted that file to compatibility with Windows2000 and it had no effect on the installation process.
I believe the problem is not from the compatibilty of the setup.exe file, but perhaps from the fact that I previously installed the 1.0.3 patch manually before attempting to install Awakenings, because every time I attempt to install, it freezes up at precisely the point where it attempts to install 1.0.3 patch
Output folder: J:\\Games\\Dragon AgeExtract: unrar.dll... 100%Extract: SafeRun.exe... 100%Extract: SafeRun.dll... 100%Installing update: patch\\DragonAge1.03.exe
Do I need to some how "roll back" the patch to 1.0.2 or 1.0.1 or remove it completely in order to install the game properly? I would have thought that when I uninstalled Origins and then reinstalled, that that would have removed patch 1.0.3; however, my Awakenings installation continues to freeze at the point where it is attempting to apply the patch 1.0.3
Please help me out here. On top of the cost I paid for Dragon Age Origins, I paid an additional $40 for this expansion in good faith that it would function properly, and i have not been able to install the file for the past several days since my initial purchase.
many thanks

the above link had a fix that worked very well for my installation.
for all of you whom this does not work, i feel your pain. as great as the Dragon Age series is, there seems to be an extraordinary amount of bugs between the games and some people's computers. in this day and age, this is unacceptable; somebody needs to get their act together.
good luck, fellow gamers.

NOTE: Program data NOT Program files.
when you are in the downloaded DAO Awakening folder go to SETUP and rightclick go to PROPERTIES then COMPATABILITY then change it to WINDOWS 2000. Hope this helps all of you digital downloaders out there because it took me and my dad freaking ageis to find it out.
good luck.... and if this dosn't work for you all i can suggest is experiment or use the forums

Hi Drake thanks for your suggestion -

i had this error. what i did was right clicked on setup.exe and clicked properties, then i went to the compactbility tab and selected run as: windows 2000.
i then worked.!! my installation was failing at that 1 file.
drake you are a GOD:wub:
[edit] my installation was stopping at the file mentioned above (sometimes it didn't say the brackets) but i did what drake did. p.s. the files were already on my pc and not the disc.

After installing Awakening on PC and clicking play on the launch screen, the screen goes black as if the game were about to start but all of the sudden it kicks me back to desktop and shows an error message "Dragon Age: Origins stopped working". Running it in admin and compatible with Win 2000 doesn't help, any ideas?
