I found that it is possible to completely offset Elemental Chaos's -20 penalty to Combat Mana Regeneration as an Arcane Warrior/Battlemage if you choose the correct equipment and build.

When you get the spell at level 28 and depending on spellpower it should deal at least 40 damage every tick to all enemies in the area without even taking into account the bonuses from elemental mastery.

It turns you into an unstoppable destruction machine and it comes with a great visual effect that makes it really fun to have it around you.

This is how you can sustain it indefinitely:

Character Mana Regeneration +3.5 (When mana falls below 10)
Rank 2 Combat Training +0.5
Fade Shroud +1
Attunement +2
Wade's Dragon Armor +2
Cailan's Arms +5.75
Nature's Blessing +3
Andruil's Blessing +2
Song of Valor +0.75 (Nathaniel with just 35 Cunning)

Total: +20.5

Cool, though I find that Hand of Winter, Nature's Vengance, Blood Wound and Thornblades negate the need or it.

I don't necessarily think that Elemental Chaos is the best spell in the game but I thought of it as more of a challenge for my build to offset the huge penalty and having 20 combat mana regeneration doesn't hurt anyway.

By the way, I have a question about Nature's Vengeance. When Velana uses it the spell obviously deals a hell of a lot of damage but there is no visual effect. Does anybody know if this is a bug or something?

dont forget death syphon.. as the enemys fall you get mana back.. HoW helps them die just that little bit faster, as does virulent walking bomb.. muwahaha... cast EC,VWB, HoW, watch the splat and get ya mana back.. love it ^_^

although the game tends to crash occasionally when a dozen darkspawn all go supernova at the same time.. but the bloodspray is fun to watch

mage ftw

Actually, Wade's is no longer the best mana-reg gear. While Awakening still lacks any decent reg-equipment for mages, the heavy armor Stormchaser Gauntlets beat Wade's Gauntlets by 1.5 mana-reg. Of course, Wade's complete set still has the negative fatigue on its side but if you rely on sustained abilities, fatigue is no issue.

Nature's Blessing is an amulet that you get in Awakening and gives you +3 mana/stamina regeneration and +1.5 health regeneration. Attunement is also a mage passive that becomes available only in Awakening and gives you +10 magic, +10 willpower, and +2 mana regeneration.

The Stormchaser Gauntlets is a great item but I prefer Wade's Dragonscale Armor with Evan the Great's Mail which gives you the same protection with massive armor at only +3% fatigue and allows you to play as a hybrid mage/warrior.

Even if my pc uses Nature's Vengeance it doesn't have a graphic, I just assumed that it was like massacre and you have to use your imagination. Might be abug though. Knowing Awakening, it probably is a bug.

There is a slight animation. Looks like your character/Velanna prays or shrugs (palms up) right before the skill damage appears.

Yes, there is an animation by the character or Velana and I can see that. However, this doesn't match the description of the spell which says that the keeper summons gigantic roots from within the ground impaling the opponents for a short time. Judging by the description of the spell I was expecting to see at least something similar to Thornblades. This is a bit dissapointing but the spell is quite powerful anyway.
