How on Earth will the galaxy withstand the Reapers?

He was one Reaper. As shown at the end of Mass Effect 2, there are thousands, and they're all coming to our galaxy. There's no way in hell we'd be able to beat them in a direct confrontation. Even with the Geth and all the other races behind you, it still seems impossible to me.
The only way I can see us winning is if we discover some ancient weapon which predates the Reapers. Or if Bioware go for a cheesy "Take out the Master Computer, it'll weaken all the Reapers!" option.
Thoughts?

It really wasn't much of fleet. Also deja vu... no that can't be... anyway, there is a reason why the Citadel is important, they lose tactical advantage if they just swarm up blindly.
It was still quite a larger fleet, the Council had beene expecting the Geth attack and had their warships stationed there as a result. They hadn't counted on Sovereign though.
I just can't see how Bioware is going to do this without it being cheesy/cliche.

Tech from collector base (blasted renegades)
All council and non-council races (geth and rachni depending on your choices)
And dont make conclusions based on what Sovereign was. He was vanguard.
For all we know he/it might have been one the most heavily armored and equipped since he/it had to stay behind to deal with possible problems (come on, reapers aint THAT arrogant)
What if half of the ships are just tools to create more reapers or act as fuel tanks in dark space. While possible that they are all warships, it's not definite.

Virus
It'll only work if Shepard chooses Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum as the squadmates to fly in the shuttle with him to go upload the virus.
Seriosuly though, the Reapers will have some archilles heel. Said heel will be such that it will be able to kill them all off at one go. Or at the very least make it really easy to kill an individual one ala Death Star with exhaust vent. Maybe for this case they go for the optics.

They did hint at some really uber weapons being fired that left holes in planets and something had to have killed the dead Reaper you landed on.
It might be a series of battles rather then one huge battle. They are already 3 Reapers down or 2 1/2 seeing as how the human reaper wasn't finished. As long as the can stop dead Reapers from being replaced the various species of the galaxy would win eventually.

I imagine it like the battle at the end of Return of the King, with the rest of the galaxy engaging the Reapers like Aragorn & company fighting the hordes of Mordor.
But it takes us, as Shepard, to throw the One Ring in the volcano and end the show for good.

Just aim for the brightly glowing orange parts on the Reaper labled "Weak Spot," duhFluffeh Kitteh wrote...

You know what? I bet there will be a central like Reaper server battleship that coordinates you attacks and your team will infiltrate it during a large scale battle and you destroy it from the inside and once that happens the Reaper fleet will become disorganized.
That would be a typical archilles heel. A Reaper lord/boss/whatever that you must defeat in an epic final battle that is so epic that you expend all your heavy ammo and hence end up killing it literally with a pistol or SMG.

Here is a thought: What if their will be no boss battle, no Shepard gunning through a reaper on foot, but instead it would be completely an epic cutscene space battle. You are the fleet admiral, directing the ships around, trying to take out the Reapers.
Can I order my ship to take cover behind an asteriod and lean out to shoot?

Cerberus or the Council will set up Toll Booths along the edge of the milky way to stop the Reapers. Honestly what are the chances those guys are carrying loose change.

We all know how its going too end up , a dramatic run into the enemy itself and land in a reaper , then blow the thing up and walk away unscathed. then apparaently killing harbringer realesed some kind of virus in the reapers and Kaboom goes the reaper fleet.
That's about the worst thing I've ever heard.

Rachni- rapid reproduction (possibly millions after two years) and already building a fleet.
Asari- Destiny Ascension, 20 dreadnoughts, Asari Commandos
Systems Alliance- 8 dreadnoughts, N7 marines
Turians- 39 dreadnoughts, largest fleet in galaxy and most disciplined
Salarians- 16 dreadnoughts, STG Units
Krogan- (Leadership of Urdnot Wrex), thousands of heavy troops to infiltrate Reaper Ship
Raloi- Shock Troopers, as they just discovered space travel)
Volus- No known fleet, but tons of credits
Plus the Sovereign and the Geth caught the Citadel Fleet of guard.
