Why hasn't there been a patch so we can use our DLCs from Origins in Awakening?

@Angband - Well, if you look at Gothic 3, in the end it was up to the community to fix the game, but because of some issue between devs and publisher. Else, the game would have never been fixed. A 900MB patch made by the "community" with devs ppl involved "undercover"..is remarkable... hehe

Now, again, the ONLY DLC that does not carry over to Awakening is Warden's Keep. I'm talking major DLC not the promo ones. BUT, WK causes weird issues to Awakening like the blood talents being messed up and Vigilance changing its original badazz looks into Starfang which IS WK item!

I have to think that such issues are the reason that made WK items not importable. But then, only having he DLC enabled in "Installed Downloadable Content" should not cause any bugs with the expansion either and it does! Without any word from BioWare on the "Awakening Launch FAQ" sticky thread as it should be expected!

Why owners of WK DLC, be it part of the CE or paid separately, have no warning about this? Only because the items do not carry over is not enough to have us assuming that while the DLC is enabled, other issues will happen.

Dragon Age - Major Awakening Incompatibility Bug Posted Image

Of course, all other bugs and issues should be dealt with as well. but the only company that I know to be very negligent in that aspect is EA. The only EA game I have that has been very well treated by the company is BF1942. All my other EA games, like BfmE RTS series, have issues that will never be solved. On the other hand, BioWare was very good in patching its games. What will prevail here?

Can't comment on EA's track record, since the last EA game I bought was the original Bard's Tale series back in the late 80s. :)
But I do think that the response from the powers that be over the various bug issues has been lacking.
I don't expect everything to be perfect right off the bat, but some of the issues have been hanging around since the first release of DA:O
That to me is unacceptable.

there is a glitch that you can use if you want to import items from mods. take back whatever uber items and such your team mates from origins have and add them to your inventory. Then when you inport your character to awakenings it will also import all your mod items with you. there is also a unofficial patch if you want the DLC added to awakenings. I have some links to such things below.

www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php

use all unofficial patches at your own risk, it may mess up your game with any new official patches put forth from Bioware.

I know its irks some people that you can't get your DLC's in Awakening, and I know its the way it should be, but the new items are just far better. So I ended up selling all the crap I did bring with me anyway to buy the new stuff.

To me, it's not about getting items with better stats;  it's about keeping a look for a character.

I finished DA:O with 3 characters. Two of which were mages with the Arcane Warrior specialization. One sported the Blood Dragon Armor, the other the Warden Commander's Armour.

I've looked at those characters for 90 hours plus in those armours -- I identify that look with those characters. I don't care if there are armours with better stats, these are the ones I want my character to wear.

Not to mention about 80% of the posts on release day were complaints from people that their items were stripped from them and they forced to start the game with their characters in their underwear -- yes it was in the FAQ, but most people don't read that.

I understand that BioWare felt that since most players toss away items for ones with better stats as a matter of course that it wasn't worth the development time to fix this issue, however since two different community members got the DLC to work within hours of release that explanation rings a little hollow.

Penalizing your better customers by taking away things that they paid extra for is IMHO always a bad idea.

It was a bad idea to not include the DLC I agree. I just like new things. That was the exciting part for me in this expansion. But thats just me.

BioWare wasn't kidding when they said the equipment in Awakening would be better and you wouldn't miss your Origins equipment... trust me. 60% of my equipment in Awakening isn't from Origins anymore and the DLC equipment would have been thrown out the window anyways even if it did transfer. The only thing I kept was my "Key to the City" and a few other little items which aren't DLC but very expensive rare shop items. Even my favourite blades were replaced very quickly by god weapons.
As it is, there are things in place on the expansion that prevent you from showing up "NAKED", so I wouldn't worry about it. Just get the expansion and have fun with it.

No offence intended here Burke, but we've heard this excuse many times before and it's just as much a boatload of utter crap as it was when it was first said.

Firstly, what constitutes 'better gear' depends entirely on the player character's build. The complete lack of any good arcane warrior armour in the Awakening is a good example of how invalid the point is.

Secondly, since people paid for the DLC, Bioware put themselves in an awkward situation by going down this route. At the end of the day they've never posted disclaimers of any sort that stated the player may not be able to use paid DLC stuff in other DLCs at the time of purchase. It was an ethically murky area that was always going to attract very little approval from the fans.

Thirdly, there's a lot of people on here who'd prefer to use their old gear. Bleatings about how 'there's better' in Awakening bears very little relevance when they already have what they want. The existence of the admittedly excellent armour rune system also undermines this.

Ultimately, I don't think this is a problem any longer. Those modder gurus sorted it out and most of us are less interested in complaining and more interested in playing the game with our gear. But the consolers are still up the creek.

Ditto for me.  There is an unofficial patch floating around here that fixes the DLC issue already.  If a customer can fix it in one day, why is it taking so long for Bioware to get it done?

If you're referring to the items not being carried over, don't overlook the fact that BioWare said this is intentional. If it's not being 'fixed', it could well be because they don't consider it broken.

Let's be fair here Eurypterid, Bioware have made a lot of these weird comments in the last few months. Not so long back they were telling us that the art style of the ME2 bonus armours would be ruined if they allowed us to take off helmets. It's not really surprising that the simple fact that Bioware considers it 'intentional' doesn't really answer a lot of people's criticisms.

I mean, seriously, are we to assume that Shepard drinking vodka through his sealed faceplate was intentional?

I'm no Bioware basher. But you have to admit claiming things were intended when they're clearly universally disliked and bizarre means little.

Shepard drinking through his visor wasn't disliked...it informed me that in the future i'll be able to wear a helmet and get drunk. No point though i suppose. Id be killed if a car hit me i've got a chopper bike.

I think a better question is "Why hasn't there been a patch?".

Better or worse isn't the -point-. It's -my- stuff. Even if I want to run around in the Warden Commander's armor for the entire game (which I did in Origins), that's my preference.

The question that have to be asked is wheter or not there is a -reason- for the items not to be imported into Awakening. To which I can only say "no".

Because it's the DLC's that need changed, not the Awakening Expansion. We don't know if updating them will require Bioware to have to have them tested again.

All of this does not bode well for all the Awakenings gear making its way to DA2.

If you're upset that none of the DLC gear made it Awakenings, how p***** off will you be when none of your Awakenings gear makes it DA2. And your character has to do another "Terminator" re-enactment (naked going in, naked coming out).

Are there really a lot of bugs, even if you don't have any mods installed?

There's a lot of people who are sick of hearing this. Aside from the fact that the stuff isn't flatly better (as I said, show me a better suit of armour for Arcane Warriors in Awakening than Warden Commander), it's missing the point.

Whom ever made this patch thank you. I got my armor back so my guy is not walking around in his underwear fighting dark spawn.

Whether I agree about the missing armors  or not, I respect the desire of the community to have what they paid for available in Awakening; however, should that be a priority over fixing bugs, or should it be something that is provided when it's ready?

Once I heard that there was no DLC carryover but gold did carry over, I sold all my DLC. The gold I got for them helped me attain some goals faster in this expansion, so for me MY DLC that I bought served me just fine. In future they should really take peoples feeling into consideration and let all purchased DLC be retained in expansions.

It would appear that awakenings is stand alone and none of it will carry over.

There is a mod that updates DLC so it´s transferred to Awakening. Just look at DragonAgeNexus.

I personally could live without the WK DLC. The thing I miss most however is the storage chest in Origins. I have the PS3 version cos my PC is primarily for work so doesn't have great graphics. I feel that sacrificing the look of the greatest weapon and armour in Awakening for the sake of a storage chest is a real pain in the ass.

...so, why hasn't there been a patch yet?

Do we even know if Bioware are working on another patch? There is a huge thread over on the technical page about bugs and such, and I don't think it's been replied to. How long would it take, I wonder, for someone at Bioware to fix the "Of Noble Birth" bug, for example? What do you think? An hour? Maybe? I mean, how hard could it possibly be to see what is checking the flags at the end of Paragon of Her Kind? I know there are several major bugs that need testing, but it's the little things that irk me more.

Oh well.

EDIT: Christ almighty, it's a thirty page thread of bug complaints related to 1.03 and not a single Bioware reply.

All their energy has been devoted to creating the Epic Community Bazaar. That surely takes precedence over silly little things like fixing their software.

Why should there be a patch for this? Seriously you do NOT need the stuff from the DLC in Awakening.

Besides, there are far more important things to deal with than that and anyway, having a patch implies it's a bug and I think that you will find that it's actually stated in the FAQ vis-a-vis what can be imported and what can't...

yup and if a modder can do it... frankly i'm disappointed that bioware couldn't.

there should be a reward for people that have actually both everything that they chucked out..

and yes i bought RTO even when the reviews were bad... because i am a fan of bioware.
