Why hasn't there been a patch so we can use our DLCs from Origins in Awakening?

Would you want them to delay releasing the expansion until they had the DLC fixed so the content would import? That was the option, from what I can tell.

How long a delay would it have been? IIRC, the two mods that fix the problem took - what? - a few hours to write?

Running them, for me, took a matter of seconds; problem solved.

These go back to the answer I gave to the first question; by the time they realized the gear wouldn't import, there wasn't time to get this into the game and have the script or merchant tested properly to meet the given release date.

Ergo: rushed out the door. Got it.

Mods don't have to go through ridiculous long QA times.

They would have to *playtest* changing the FLAGS on an item?

I find that odd. They didn't seem to playtest a number of other issues, yet this one would have caused a delay.

QA has nothing to do with this.  If you believe the story, then they already knew about this well in advance, and made a conscious decision NOT to import the DLC, which means they should have already planned for it.  In which case, they're lazy for not fixing this prior to launch.  If you don't believe the story, then they screwed up big-time, and they're simply incompetent.

So they're either lazy or incompetent.  Take your pick.

As much as I disagree with their decision, BioWare are neither incompetent nor are they lazy. In fact I would venture to say the staff at BioWare are some of the more hard working, passionate and clever folk you are likely to find.

Game development is a series of decisions, what to spend time on, and what not to spend time on. What stays and what gets cut. What resources do we have available? Where can we spend them to get the most impact for our customers?  How those resources are managed are the crux of getting any game out the door.

BioWare chose not to spend their limited resources on making the DLC transfer and it is very possible that the solution that they decided not to impliment was more complex and time consuming then the ones done by the community. That does not make them incompetent, nor does it make them lazy. It just means at some point in the myriad of development decisions BioWare chose for whatever reason that focusing their resources in other areas was more important.

Do I agree with that decision -- no. For reasons I've stated elsewhere in this thread I vehemently disagree with that decision. Do I think that this expansion deserved more development time -- absolutely.

I do not understand and am frustrated by the decision to not allocate the development time to allow the DLC to transfer, and the communication about said decision has been IMHO unsatisfactory. However even though I as a customer do not agree with this decision I do not question BioWare's passion, ability or character.

QA has everything to do with why developer patches take ages to come out in contrast to mods which is what I commented on if you would even have bothered to see that.

And you apparently know nothing about how companies like this work. They have a limited amount of resources which they must make do with and have to decide what to use it on. If they don't think the DLC import was as high a priority as some other stuff they where then so be it. Resources is the only thing that matters here and not laziness or incompetency.

A great deal of the frustration being expressed here would be relieved if someone from Bioware posted something along the lines of "We are working on a patch. We can not announce when it will be released. There is a patch in the future for both DA:O and DA:A". People would still whinge (this is the Internet after all), but that would palliate the reasonable majority of posters.

The problem is a patch has to usually fix several issues, and thus requires testing for every issue it fixes. I understand this is why patches take a long time to come out.

My point was different; this is something they could have fixed relatively quickly before release, without having to bundle it into a patch with some other fixes, that would require heavier testing.

In general, I agree with you.  However, I was specifically referring to the group working on the expansion pack.  It's quite obvious that they didn't put enough effort into testing this.  Many glaringly obvious bugs, and that's on top of the DLC transfer issue.

I don't understand why you people are giving them a pass on this DLC issue.  Do you honestly believe it would have altered the launch date by that much too have fixed the flags on a few items (or at least to have replaced the items on your character before you start out)?

Patches, yes.  But I was referring to why this wasn't fixed PRIOR to launch.  Limited resources or not, this should have been blatantly obvious to them.

So I stand by my statement.  They were either incompetent, or lazy.

Exactly my point, as well.

Where can i find this faq that mentions you start out naked if you wear warden commander armour?

My warrior wore warden commander armour so when my charachter was naked and i couldn't find the items in inventory i decided to create a new charachter which was a bit sad. I can't fight darkspawn without armour after all.

Can someone answer why warden commander armour is not working when king cailan armour is?

Although given the answer they provided here, RTO and SP items shouldn't have transferred over either.

This is curious logic. If you are unhappy with the decisions of your car dealership do you feel you are justified stealing your next car from them?

Because modders can do it- and Bioware doesn't care about console users.

I dunno about you, but Arcane Warriors can sure as hell do the entire game without armor, im tempted to do it just to prove a point.

Because, as it turns out, two sets of DlC are coded correctly (their flags are set to be game-specific rather than module-specific). Those two sets of DlC are everything from Stone Prisoner and everything from RtO.

The other two sets (BD Armor and everything from WK) are not. It's not a DRM issue. This also happens with custom mod items who are set incorrectly, as well.

What would I have preferred?  I'd have preferred they pushed the launch back until they got it right.

A polished product that's late, is far more preferable than a buggy product right now.  That just serves to tick off your customers.

Or Bioware has to have any changes or updates to the console version of DLCs run through testing by the hardware makers before the altered content can be distrbuted, even if it's simply changing a few flags on items. The reason is that they have to entirely rebuild the DLCs after doing that, then submit those for approval by either Microsoft (XBox 360) or Sony (PS3).

Exactly.

Rushed incomplete products are the bane of game companies, especially RPGs. Just ask Troika, some great games that were force released early by the publisher, lead to the studio dying an undeserved death. Imagine what games lilke Vampire: Bloodlines, Temple of Elemental Evil and Ultima IX could have been if the developers had the grunt to say "It's finished when it's finished", rather than the bugfests they were.

I think the front cover of the expansion was a dead give away; giant monster bugs.

First time I've ever been disappointed with a Bioware release... I smell a lot of EA in this **** up. And I've been a fan since MDK.

Or maybe just greedy?  They announced quite early on that the WK gear wouldn't export and then made it extremely clear that items from RtO would.

Way to sell more units of RtO???

Most excellent analogy.

For me, personally, stealing is never an option. If I'm dissatisfied, I will cease to use that product, and most likely will avoid all products from that company in the future.

It is strange that you quote logic and then fail in its use yourself. You are purchasing a sequence of products, some of which are then stolen from you in the final product. These products are not material products and can be duplicated without loss of the original. They do not fall completely under set of rules defining material products. Even the simplest of simpletons could clearly see that.

In what way is:
A) A car a series of products?
B) A car removing previouse abilities pre purchase?
C) Stealing a car from a dealership akin to the theory of game piracy protecting the game player from being ripped off.
