^just for clarification, does CT work in awakenings?
To reiterate what Nikatjef said. It won't break anything in Awakenings (though you might need an exp_table gda fix so you get the right number of tactics slots when you hit level 26). But the patch 1.03 code stiomps over a number of parts of the delicate balance and even manages to re-break some of the bug fixes the author had resolved (gg Bioware). Worse though there is no mechanism in place to balance or fix the new elements from Awakenings since the source has not yet been released (Maker knows when that will be). Until then it cannot be updated properly and the mish mash of Awakening combat cannot (yet) be improved (again gg Bioware).
If you are interested in CT, play a new run on Origins. You would be surprised how very differnt the gameplay is when skills and talents work and are resonably balanced, not to mention enemy debuffs stack. Add in the optional diffulty tweaks and find your settings on some test fights in Lothering and in world encounters and you are good to go. Yes the story and dialog will be the same but the combat (depends of course on what difficulty you settle on) will be very different. For example: 30+ minutes end game fight with no armies or the sword and board tank gets two shot by Piotin because shattering shot now works, the tank gets stunned with shiled pummel and the healer gets knocked down with war cry or scratching your head in the Alienage wondering how the heck you are going to get past certain fights without dropping the difficulty paramters, etc..
See the thing with vanilla even on nightmare is that theory crafting about what is 'best' (as used to be posted ad nauseum all over these forums) is all bs since virtually EVERY strategy works. Play CT with the right difficulty tweaks and suddenly you learn real fast that some tactics or strategies are much less optimal than others. Makes it even more fun then to try differnt party makeups and have to adapt to still beat the fights.
Is CT perfect? Surely not there will be some elements of the balance that will irk some people (especially when they only read it and theory craft as opposed to actually play). But the author has been very conscientous about his changes and there is a pretty significant 'micro'-community over on dragon nexus that has served as testers (more than I can say for Awakening and Bioware apparently). This 'micro-community also particpates in the multiple discussion threads regarding not only the mod but the various implications for difficulty settings, revised builds, and combat strategies. But no love there in terms of using with Awakening.
Personally, Awakening has kind of burned me out and I have finished five complete runs on DAO with CT, so last night I loaded up BG2+ToB. Time to give Kangaxx a whupping since his cousin Gaxkang was such a wuss.
