Yeah, i respecc'ed my lvl 23rogue to archery as early as I could. I steamrolled everything with auto-fire and the occasional arrow of slaying on elite or highers. Arrow of slaying was hitting for like 2700

Archery is sweet.  Love that AOE stun when mobs are clustered around my tank, forget the name of the special atm

there is scattershot and a new one that does something similar, but cant remember the name because I only used it like twice.

I had both my rogue and Sigrun set up as archers and Oghren as my tank. Oghren finished awakenings with 1% contribution to party damage, yet he was always in my party. Everything was just dead before he could get to it.

Been reading some guides and watching videos on youtube and it would seem warrior archers seem to even surpass Rogues with the spirit warrior specialization...it's ridiculous

^just for clarification, does CT work in awakenings?

To reiterate what Nikatjef  said. It won't break anything in Awakenings (though you might need an exp_table gda fix so you get the right number of tactics slots when you hit level 26). But the patch 1.03 code stiomps over a number of parts of the delicate balance and even manages to re-break some of the bug fixes the author had resolved (gg Bioware). Worse though there is no mechanism in place to balance or fix the new elements from Awakenings since the source has not yet been released (Maker knows when that will be). Until then it cannot be updated properly and the mish mash of Awakening combat cannot (yet) be improved (again gg Bioware).

If you are interested in CT, play a new run on Origins. You would be surprised how very differnt the gameplay is when skills and talents work and are resonably balanced, not to mention enemy debuffs stack. Add in the optional diffulty tweaks and find your settings on some test fights in Lothering and in world encounters and you are good to go. Yes the story and dialog will be the same but the combat (depends of course on what difficulty you settle on) will be very different. For example:  30+ minutes end game fight with no armies or the sword and board tank gets two shot by Piotin because shattering shot now works, the tank gets stunned with shiled pummel and the healer gets knocked down with war cry or scratching your head in the Alienage wondering how the heck you are going to get past certain fights without dropping the difficulty paramters, etc..

See the thing with vanilla even on nightmare is that theory crafting about what is 'best' (as used to be posted ad nauseum all over these forums) is all bs since virtually EVERY strategy works. Play CT with the right difficulty tweaks and suddenly you learn real fast that some tactics or strategies are much less optimal than others. Makes it even more fun then to try differnt party makeups and have to adapt to still beat the fights.

Is CT perfect? Surely not there will be some elements of the balance that will irk some people (especially when they only read it and theory craft as opposed to actually play). But the author has been very  conscientous about his changes and there is a pretty significant 'micro'-community over on dragon nexus that has served as testers (more than I can say for Awakening and Bioware apparently). This 'micro-community also particpates in the multiple discussion threads regarding not only the mod but the various implications for difficulty settings, revised builds, and combat strategies. But no love there in terms of using with Awakening.

Personally, Awakening has kind of burned me out and I have finished five complete runs on DAO with CT, so last night I loaded up BG2+ToB. Time to give Kangaxx a whupping since his cousin Gaxkang was such a wuss.

So roleplay like you are a real spartan from the movie 300 and play Naked with nothing but a weapon

no way is it too easy, remove all armor and weapons, then fight!

Just a note:  Have you guys actually tried doing this in Awakenings?  As sad as it may sound, it doesn't make combat that much harder!  Your mage is basically Uneffected.  And your strength based 2-hander is still doing 90-100 damage with his fists.

And the  mobs still fall like flies.

Yeah, I actually commented about this in another thread.  My Rogue was hitting harder with his fists than he was with a long sword.  My Mage was hitting harder still, mind you she was higher level and an Arcane Warrior, than my Rogue and she had her full complement of spells to back that up.  On one of my plays as the Orlesian warden, I solo'd all the way up to 'The Withered' starkers, please note this run was on normal.

the first mobs with his massacre ability!

Just wanted to say that I am really desperate:

On nightmare, the game is so easy that it is totally spoiled. I was so much looking forward to this, but it's no challenge, no fun at all.

I hope someone at Bioware reads this.

I agree with Nikatjef. Something is up with the gda files controlling the abilities of enemy mobs. Regular darkspawn seem to lack some of the fundamental talents. Very weird, though by no means is the only thing driving the difficulty to extremely easy but it is a factor I wager.

Also when bumping the settings for enemy health, enemy damage, fscales, etc. they are still much easier than their DAO counterparts. Maybe the challenge scaling is mis-calibrated like it was in DAO for the latter part of the game when the game got too easy in vanilla (unless you altered the area scale windows with an override).

The amount of insta kill talents is inane, I can two shot groups of 8+ normal enemies with one or two massacres, or with a single shattering/breaking (forget which) shot.

Beyond that, low boss health totals dont help, along with the fact htat most bosses don't employ tactics beyond "hit dat".  The only fight with the mechanics to merit being called a true boss fight was queen of the black marsh.

You are right about the insta kills. I remember in BG2:ToB you had them also, but against most enemys they didnt
work! This made battles ofc more interesting.

About the "low" HP of elites: I dont think they have not enough HP! They have 3-4 times of your Warriors HP!
The problem is, that you make too much damage.
My 2h-Warrior was making 400-600 damage with normal swings, because i pumped his STR and developed a high crit-chance with + crit damage modifiers.

I played on Normal for one and a half DA:O campaings, the 2nd half on hard. I went on Nightmare on DA:O:A

There was a glitch where all of my party members were stuck outside while I was fighting the Architect except for my warrior main-char. I beat with Anders Healing and some poultices.
