Hello I am just writing to let everyone know I set up a community mod site for Dragon Age. This site has it's own forums and news feeds about the game. We just launched and are still working on the site and forums, but they are at a state now that is ready to be launched for the public.

When Dragon Age Toolset launches we plan to start right away with other users generating custom content and we plan to host all the content that our users create. As well as doing this we also have space on our forums set aside for requests for users that have great ideas for content but don't know how to make them.

If you would like to help or contribute to the site please feel free to sign up and start.

The site is www.dragonagemods.com and please feel free to contribute to the site as well as start posting with feedback on how to improve our site.

Thanks

I really like to look of your site. It has a very nice aesthetic. However, to be honest, I am not sure of the point of it. We already have this official web site for mods. Personally I think that a single spot for all the information about mods is best.

Sounds like the big "win" of the site is that it'll host custom content as well, not just completed mods.

Unless I misread that part.

I'm afraid BioWare already beat you to it: this is the home of the Dragon Age Modding community.

Probably depends if Bioware censors content. For example, the inevitable 5000 different varieties of nude mods. If they allow that stuff here, then yes I don't really see much point in starting your own, I'm afraid.

I am interested in a site that enables community content to be bought and sold to other builders.

A builder store would give builders a monetary reward for their hard work.

You're in luck then as this is something BioWare has already said they would consider if a) the community wants it and B) the quality warrants it.  Again this is something that would be managed through this site and (given the likely the terms of the EULA) only this site.

I suppose the big thing I want to do with my site isn't necessarily be the main site for content, but to be a place where developers can put their work for testing and feed back. When I get a clear direction of what content people will make there will be sub forums for that item where you can put your work and get feedback.

I agree this is going to be the site for final releases but for getting feedback and getting attention for your work when you are making this forum in the social site isn't really for that. Threads will get buried in new threads as soon as the tools go live and with the mod site I hope to prevent that and make sure everyone can gather feedback on their work. The forums allow people to upload files, so you can get testing versions out to users and I won't disable hotlinking so you can share your work with others that you want to have test.

My build team has moved our internal discussion to this official Bioware social site, with a view to hosting beta testing here when the time comes. We also expect to publish to players here, even though our modules may have some mature/adult content. My guess is that censorship is unlikely (though of course this is entirely at our own risk, so we do have a contingency plan).

With some improvements in presentation, which folk have started to suggest, I'm personally happy that this site will be fit for purpose.

I don't have a problem with fan sites that host content (assuming the EULA allows this). After all, competition and alternatives are always healthy.

All the same, I have a feeling that the Bioware social site will be the primary focus. Most builders and players are probably looking for a one-stop shop. Sadly, we know from experience that there are some risks with fan sites. Backed by EA's reputation, the Terms of Service offer some reassurance to builders who download components here, and we know the site won't disappear overnight owing to dependency on one person.

These comments might seem a little harsh, but I apply them equally to myself - the reason we decided to move here is precisely because my own fan site is subject to these risks.

I applaud ur enthusiasm, and motivation.  But 2 quote sunjammer, bioware already has this.  All of these things are available via the forums and/or projects sections.  And I believe a unified front is the strongest.  But...

For every dealer (or market), there are always middle-men who help distribute...  So, whatever works.  Me, personally, I never stray from the 'official' sites, no matter what.  Posted Image
