... is making me want to kill myself!

Scions? Fine. Harbringer? Pft! Husks? Husks are tearing me apart (think 'The Room')!

It's the final arena. I can't seem to kill the husks quick enough to avoid getting swarmed. I've teamed with Garrus and Jack, but this is clearly not working. Any advice? (I'm resigned to restarting at least the mission at this point).

Also (in case I fail epicly and have to replay), I started a new game with an ME1 import for this run. Would I have been better using my Lv30 ME2 import?

Thanks.

Kill one of the scions before entering the room. It just stands there and dies.

Any CC ability insta-kills them .. and incineration blast also doubles as armour stripper. I'd advise Mordin.

Cain and/or Avalanche them if you're desperate.

There's some "L" shaped low cover at the other end of the room. You can jump over it, and the husks get confused with pathing.

I find the landing on the left (with the medi kit) as the most defensible position.

And finally ... lv 30 ME2 import is the hardest mode of all.

This sucks and is like cheating.(but this is a singleplayer game/but this way you dont feel you have something accomplished there)

ME2 imports would be harder.

Kill husks first, avoiding whatever else is around by using cover. Any ability that ragdolls an enemy or cc's them instantly kills husks on health. So, whatever class you are, shoot off the armour then finish off with an ability (pull, concussive shot, cryo blast etc). The avalanche heavy weapon is awesome vs husks, destroys them and has high ammo.

Also, keep running from husks, think ME1 gun'n'run tactics, keep going backwards, you really don't wanna get gang raped.

And? The OP is clearly having trouble with the combat.
I happily take on husks in CQC, but that's 'cos I actually bothered to learn how to strafe-dodge them.

Yeah - that's the side I've been aiming for. Are the spawning husks infinate on insanity?

And thanks for Lv30 advice. Good to know. :)

Ooops - meant to put that in. Vangurad. (I have one
started insanity venture as a Infiltrator as well, but that class
flummoxed me at getting Archangel! Vanguard is my class of choice.)

Oh, do you have cryo ammo?

I just use cryo ammo + predator pistol (or shuriken machine pistol) in that fight .. using charge whenever shields are down to recharge (finishing off a husk when there's the opportunity).

One shot vs health = dead husk.

Take mordin with the inferno blast with you.It takes down the armor of more then one husk. After that use jacks shockwave on them.
Charge destroys them also.
Alternative:Arc Projector as a heavy weapon that staggers multiple husks and strip their protection.Follow with a shockwave/pull/charge to instantkill them.

Keep moving around the battlefield to avoid husk damage. Do not worry about scion damage(try to weave around collisions to lessen the amount of times shockwave staggers you). One-shot the armor off the husks with your shotgun and followup with a Charge. Charge will insta-kill it and refill all of your shields which would have taken a beating from the scions.

if your a vanguard this should be easy-ish, strip the armor in what ever way you see fit, andd use your biotecs/shotgun/avalanche and your all set, also i find it easier to takeout the scions first so you wont have to dodge their near undodgable shockwave(s)

Lv 11.

Inferno ammo, cryo ammo. rank 2. Charge rank 3. Reave (bonus power) rank 2, Operative rank 2. Shockwave rank 2.

Thanks for the advice, I'm actually through to the praetorian now. Looks like I'm actually going to make it (jinxes self. lol).

Yeah - I think it's getting the timing right to avoid shockwave that took me a while.

Think I am going to side quest the hell outa this game before I even attempt the Collector ship!

Thanks for the help. And thanks even more for not mocking my death! ;)

yup what rummination said. Keep moving, personalyl right when I eneter the area, I like to hide behind the tire piles to the left( to avoid shockwave) while I dispose of the husks in that area. I'll sometimes place my teamates in front of that "truck" that's sitting there, they have low cover on the sides to usually avoid shockwave and they can do pretty well for themselves. Squad Cryo ammo is extremely helpful for your teamates but not necessar, but make sure you switch back to inferno after you give them cryo.
My team can usually clear armor off the husks pretty fast (I take mordin and miri) cause they have rapid fire smgs and they are very accurate with them, once armor is removed 1 charge destroys a husk, and you can use the shotty to take down any others that are nearby.
Dealing with the scions isn't bad once you know how to handle them. I'll run around the perimeter, and when I hear one of them shoot their shockwave I hit my storm speed to get away from where I was. You can hide on the scions and pot shot them until they are down

Edit: nm looks like you got it beat :)
Edit #2 - The praetorian is pretty simple too.  I put my squadmates in cover to the right and play ring around the rosie at the "truck" I mentioned earlier.  Not only does it ignore your squadmates, but there's enough cover there that you can dodge his eye beams and still get in some good shots with pistols/smg/or your shotty if you want, and when it does that shield recharge thing, even if it hits you (which is rare for me) you'll be on the other side of the truck so the stagger doesn't really open you up to attack that much.

@shep309 Yeah. Thanks. The Praetorian was actually OK. Most of the enemies have
been, to be honest. The ones that seem to get me down are those
irritating mech dogs and husks. So many husks! lol

Mind you, it
was them that gave me all the trouble on hardcore, so I should have
expected it.

Edit:  @ baxterboy Yeah. People seem to either find insanity
'fun but too easy' or frustrating. lol. I guess I'm currently at
'frustrating yet fun'.

I got stuck for a while at this very area until I asked in the vanguard help-thread stickied.

There are a few things you can do: But focus on either the scions or the husks first.

- One way is this; SCIONS -> Get in close with the scions and try to keep them together, their short range attack is less devastating then their shockwave. However watch its blast radius, and continue to dodge the husks. Your shield boost with charge should keep you alive. However, I'm not so good at playing dodgeball, but try it and see if it works for you.

Kronner's Vid:

- Second way is this:; HUSKS -> Focus on the husks first and wipe them out. Try to stay where the scions can't see you. You should have no problem if you maintain distance/cover from the scions. Charge/shoot/repeat. Do NOT bother with cover. If the scions get too close, get out of there. Then continue charging/killing husks.

Thisisme8 did it a similar way here:
Thisisme8's Vid:

After that, go kill the scions. Personally I did it a combination of both ways. I killed the husks first, then killed the scions Kronner's way.

On my second time there on my vanguard i actually didnt die once (which means alot comming from me :P) I used the walkway where husks spawn (to the left after entering) as my setup point. I can take out the husks as they come up, and keep my guys in cover. Just take cheap shots at the scions, and once they were close i shotgunned them down..

Just charge, shoot, walk back a few meters to avoid the pb aoe, and repeat. As long as they arent shockwaving its not to bad.

In my opinion though, your build is messed up. rank 2 cryo does little for you, and not having a rank 4 charge hurts a bit. Rank 2 shockwave is again, not that usefull IMO. Wouldnt pick up either cry or shockwave(going for pull?) before i got my heavy charge, and rank 4 passive. Personally i go for those 2, then rank 4 inferno ammo. I got a 1 point slam to setup explosions or have some fun.

Just my point of view tho... But the extra health/damage from passive are awesome, and the slowdown/shield regen of heavy charge are immensely helpfull aswell. Good to see you made it anyway :) I remember my first time there on vanguard... I nearly cried of frustration :P

Yeah, optimised build really does help a lot.
Personally, I like squad cryo a lot ('cos I'm obsessed with placing squadmates in spots so they never fall unco), and I'll pick up:
Rank 2 charge first (so I get some shields back on a charge).
Rank 2 incendiary ammo
Rank 1-4 cryo ammo (squad cryo)
Then I max charge and passive.

I find that pre-horizon, shockwave has too slow a recharge to be worthwhile .. I'd wait 'til getting the -20% recharge upgrade and passive 3 before thinking of getting shockwave & pull.

An alternative, if you have reave, is to max that asap ... but I never take reave 'cos it's too good.
I usually take something silly, like Barrier, for ME1 nostalgia's sake as well as having a power to use while shooting at range.

On my Engineer I found that Grunt + Zaeed are good for this mission, they're tough to kill and deal heavy damage. Though If I had played a Vanguard, I may have preferred Mordin for his Incinerate (if you dont have Zaeeds incendiary grenade yet)... Theory would be that Mordin strips the Husks, and you blow them away with shockwave (but I don't know if it would work in practice on Horizon (on Jacks loyalty mission my Incinerate+jacks Shockwave worked on the Varren well enough).

Grunt is good for distracting them though... I guess, try to lure them close to Grunt (taking cover every time those blasted Scions start sending shockwaves you way), you may get them to switch targets. Or maybe send Grunt closer to the Scions and let him draw their fire...

Haven't played a Vanguard on insanity yet, but that's what I'd try at least :)

If you can't handle the difficulty level, you should pick teammates that assist you. Like, say, Grunt or Jacob with squad fire ammo. Or Mordin with area incinerate. And so on.

I did it with this team if i remember correctly

Miranda:
3 pts Overload
10 pts Warp/unstable
3 pts Cerberus

Jacob
10 Pts Pull field
6 pts Incendiary Ammo

Me (Vangaurd)
10 pts Heavy Charge
6 Pts Incendiary Ammo
3 pts Assault mastery

The strategy is to strip the armor off the husks using warp and Incendiary ammo and  then use Jacob's pull for mass insta kills and heavy charge to take ot individual husks. Avoid the Scions initially.

For the next two rounds with Collectors and Husks. Round 1, start the fight up toward the entrance and deal with the initial  Husks rush from the left porch first then keep drones and assasins as the priority. For round 2, start off near the back of the arena (opposite the entrance) and take the husks out first. Harbinger and his Collector minions will stay near the entrace until you move further than the low walls there.
