I'm Commander Shepard, and I have the worst voice actor on the Citadel.

Hey, even if the topic has been argued before, there are always going to be new fans and newcomers to the forums who will want to discuss with likeminded people... normally I'd say they could just find one of the old threads, but since there seems to be a rule against necrothreads, I don't see why there's a problem with people starting new threads on old topics if they want to have a chance to speak their mind.

I think both Meer and Hale do pretty good. Do know what you're talking about.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but I've seen people mocked for posting in month old threads. It seems they're stuck between a rock and a hard place... aren't allowed to start a new thread ("OMG this thread's been done before!") but not allowed to partake in an old existing thread ("OMG this thread is old, why didn't you start a new one?")

I think tha voiceacting is actually quite good.

Try playing the german dub. Then you'll know what horrible voiceacting is.

Meer is alright, but as someone else said he tends to play it safe, which sometimes can be boring. This is more due to lack of experience then anything else, its not that he's bad. But if you look him up he's got little to no experience.

Hale on the other hand has tons of experience and takes more risks, It doesn't always work out and some of her lines are meh. I do like Hales performance better over all though.

I am sure Meer's performance in 3 will be better still.

If you look him up he's got 15 or so roles which is miniscule compared to Hale's 200+

Still when it comes down to it its all about opinion. Meer isn't bad, and he'll continue to improve.

The dude has had less high profile stuff but he certainly doesn't have a lack of experience.

The Hanar? Him.

The Volus? Him

He's in Dragon Age as the elf looking for his missing wife and as the Gatekeeper Werewolf. He's been doing work with Bioware since Baldur's Gate.

He is not inexperienced.

Like I said. 15 or so roles. Compared to Hale he has little experience.

And a career with improv, listen I never said he had Hale's resume but to say he's got little to no experience is outright wrong.

Basically this.

As talented as Hale is, I don't like the approach she took with female Shepard;  way too much feels forced.

Mark Meer ftw :wizard:

I have to agree on a purely subjective basis.

Starbuck and Aeryn Sun still jointly hold the crown for ass-kicking females for me.

I once started ME1 with male shepard, but couldn't play even to Citadel because he sounded so boring. There is zero emotion in his voice, he's talking like robot. Hale delivers.

This, oh dear god, THIS

As talented as Hale is, I hope it wasn't her idea to add that butchiness to her voice to try to sound tough.

You don't need to sound ******-ish to sound respectable and tough. There are more than just the two polar ends of female voice spectrums; girly and ******. I wish Hale would find a balance between the two. It would make femshep so much more appealing for me.

Seriously. This guy must be the absolute WORST voice actor I've ever heard! He's so monotonous and boring, it almost makes me hate my own character.

Hell, anyone who's heard the speech he gives to the crew once you get the ship in the original knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

This guy has the lead voice of a HUGE video game series, yet he shows absolutely no enthusiasm for his work, or any emotion in his voice, even when there should be some. Someone needs to kick this dude out of the studio and give Clint Eastwood a call.

He's not the worst Ive seen, but he most certainly ranks up there on the top 10 list of worst Voice Actors of all time for me.  Seriously, if you go to voicechasers.com and look up Mark Meer, you wont see too many things that his voice has appeared in.  Reason being, my guess, is that either A.) He's some nobody that BW grabbed off the street and put into this role and if they're smart, kicking themselves in the balls just like they should be for signing on with EA.  Or B.) Its because he sucks that badly and no one wants him.  Hell, he doesnt even have a picture.  When you hold this guy up next to the elite like Steven Blum,  Yuri Lowenthal, and Johnny Bosch...It becomes quite clear, quite quickly how much Mark Meer in fact DOES blow.

Mark Meer does quite a bit more voices than Male Shepard.
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/1312134/1

He's quite talented skilled.  People compare him being really good at R, and Hale at being great at P.  I would say that's more of a sex than skill issue.  (Male's screams are just more intimidating than Females.)

And as everyone has stated before, he's there to play the "everyday man."  He's supposed to be flat and straightforward, and thus, mallaeable to the players whim (face, skin tone, etc), including differing social responses.
