When you put it into perspective, there seems to be little reason for some characters to be on the ship and have full conversations yet not be squad mates, in context of resources. Putting them in the squad isn't hard, what is most difficult is the writing and voice acting. If we go by ME1 and ME2, you only get a few lines from the squad mates per mission, nothing that rivals the conversations in the ship.Elessara wrote...
At any rate, it would help deal with part of the problem of having to voice many different squadmate conversation combinations.

I hope relevant characters return. It's safe to assume Shepard will be on the frontlines during the final fight, s/he needs to be surrounded by those likewise. I'm looking forward to some new blood, just please no more loyalty missions.
I really enjoyed many of the loyalty missions, but they would seem kind of out of place in the last act of the story.
Thats the reason why I want the characters from ME1 and ME2, I'd rather not run around and do recruitment missions again and instead focus on finding information on the reapers and developing plans/alliances to defeat them.

I didn't kill a damn thresher maw and get declared Grunt's battlemaster to not have him in ME3. Same goes for all those whelps I saved at the end mission, I didn't do that just for the achievement! I understand if Samara leaves due to her code and Thane dies (albeit disappointed) in order to make room for Liara and AshleyKaiden, but everyone else better be with us in ME3 to help fight. Loyalty missions were excellent spotlight moments for each character, got me attached to them, now we all are united and ready to take on the final enemy.
This.
(You know, until Bioware decide to send Shep to jail/ give Shep amnesia/ have Shep build a timemachine as a device for leveling out for the beginning of ME3.

Why? I have no interest in playing CoD. I want to play ME3 without the wacky, teen oriented, comic book crap. That whole Loyalist, Genius, Archangel, Joker, Riddler, Batman, etc,.. nonsense is just plain silly and juvenile.
Yeah, because space marines **HOOOOORAH!!!111!!1!** have really interesting character depth as showed with Ashley and Kaidan in ME1.
And if you found all of that silly, you're playing the wrong game for you.

I'm also wondering what the time lag would be between ME2 and ME3. Some people seem to think that Thane would die between the two games but if ME3 takes place directly after ME2 then Thane would still be kicking around for while yet. Samara might bugger off as her original agreement was to stick around for the Collector mission. Same with Zaeed - though I could also see him sticking around for the action. I could see Miranda running off to protect her sister from Cerberus if you keep the base and she tells TIM to shove it. Don't know enough about Kasumi to make a guess as to her motivations. Don't see Garrus going anywhere as Shep is pretty much his best friend. The others? Not sure.

No thanks. If you love the ME2 squad so much, just keep playing ME2. I want a new batch of real soldiers this time. I hope that BioWare gets away from this comic book bullsh!t. No more psycho goofballs, useless assassins, justicars in crackwh0re outfits, incompetent boobs with oversize bewbs & bubble butts or 'pure' krogan test tube losers. I'd rather have a professional squad of Alliance Spec Ops guys & gals. If I'm supposed to be saving the galaxy then give me some people that are reliably competent and mature. I certainly don't want to hold their hands or have to provide a shoulder to cry on. If BioWare wants to do a cartoon super hero game then they should just go ahead and license some Marvel or DC Comic characters and get it over with.

True enough, Collider. It just seems that some people are really hammering that Bioware couldn't possibly put all of the squadmates from ME2 and possible returning ones from ME1 due to the convo combinations.
The ending of the game has the squad mates (except Tali for some odd reason) looking at Shepard while Shepard examines the Reaper datapad and looks out the window like he/she is going to take the fight to them. It'd be rather strange if you start the game and everyone's gone...but I can't tell the future.

I think (in the interests of it being a trilogy and all) that it would be cool if the game picked up exactly from where ME2 left off (maybe a few months down the line in order for Cerberus to figure out the next move), but in such a way that you install ME2 and 3 on your console/computer so in effect we are expanding the same universe. Unlock new visitable worlds, but retain access to Illium/ Omega/etc. Open new wards on the Citadel, add new galaxy maps and planets...
Obviosuly, I appreciate that the logistics for this for gameplay would be nightmarish, but it's an idea. In any case, I don't think Bioware need to 'reset'. Treat it like a proper continuing chapter and have the team head on from where they are. More plot driven missions, maybe some loyalty missions which take character depth to the next level (maybe the outcome of these actually makes it possible to lose squad members). I know that people would argue that this approach would alienate people who hadn't played ME1 or 2, but let's face it: at this point game sales indicate that that isn't really going to be a massive issue in terms of revinue. Also, if you want to jump to part three of a trilogy without parts 1 and 2, then that's your choice - deal with it. (Will never forget goign to see Return of the King and sitting next to a girl who asked her boyfriend all the way through what was going on, then complained it didn't make sense. She had not seen the 1st 2. Why bother?)

I don't think the concern is so much with slots but with squad mates returning in general. Even if you choose squad mates for limited slots, Bioware is still going to have to do the work for all of those squad mates, even if you can't use all of them in a single playthrough. The work that Bioware has to do is the primary concern however.janeym27 wrote...
Maybe (if people are concerned about too many 'slots') the game could be structred in such a way that you can have all the former squaddies back, but you can't have them all in the same playthrough. Like, you can only recruit so many before plot advances, or you have to make choices? That would have the benefit of adding more replayability to the game as well.
I agree...except maybe with Zaeed and Kasumi. They're DLC and I could see them as being written off. Kind of contrary to what the thread says, but I think they're the characters that will garner the least backlash if they're not in.Hmmm.... late night makes me meander. In short:
I support all squadmates to return in ME3!

I think that it would be possible to do a romance outside of the squadmate system. You just have to have enough instances where they are together. As it stands you spend all of five minutes game time with your LI, that could easily be done outside of the normandy. It would also add more variance to the LI system. Right now every LI is essentially the same except for Miranda, they all take place in the Captains Cabin. If you had a Liara romance in Liara's suite on Illium it would be different and unique.kraidy1117 wrote...

Ah - but isn't there going to be an update which will enable flashdrives to be plugged into the 360? Because, if so, you can pick up a 200GB flash passport drive for about 50 quid these days. (not super cheap, I know, but still). Hmmm. I do see the problem of isolating gamers with older console models. Ah well.
My point about continuring the universe as it is without 'resetting' stands though!

It only supports up to 16GB per port. That means at most 32GB of extra storage. If I wanted to expand my storage capacity I could, it just wouldn't be very efficient. For the price of a 250GB HDD I could buy a TB HDD from Western Digital. As it is I don't need anymore space really, it's just that making a game function in a way like you describe would ultimately alienate many 360 Gamers because they don't want to sacrifice their save games in order to play a game. Right now Cerberus network is already pushing what I'm used to (not that I can't change but when you get signed out of a game because of Cerberus Network losing connection it becomes a problem) and implementing your suggestion while awesome really isn't possible.janeym27 wrote...

Why are people so quick to dismiss Samara? She fights to protect the innocent. Logic would dictate that there is no greater threat to innoncents than the end of all sentient life by the Reapers, thus she should stay with Shepard. Going off to fight petty criminals would make no sense. Anyways...I support all ME1 and ME2 squadmates returning.Goat_Shepard wrote...
