ME2 wasn't the end of the trilogy. I was responding to a poster who said that Luke and Han being replaced by some other dudes in the last movie would be bad. Fortunately for you, Bioware has given plenty of indication that Liara will return in a big way, and quite probably as a squad mate. You may disagree with me though.jlb524 wrote...

Carolyn Seymour also provided additional voices for BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic and Dragon Age: Origins. She also provided voice for Mon Mothma in Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast and Star Wars: Empire at War, as well as the voice of the Locust queen in Gears of War.

ME2 wasn't the end of the trilogy but Luke and Han weren't replaced in Empire neither (unlike Ash/Kaidan/Liara/Wrex in ME2)
As far as Liara, they've given no indication she'll return as a squad mate. I don't have faith that she will at this point. They might give her a DLC role and then side-line her again for the remainder of the series.

I think that it would be possible to do a romance outside of the squadmate system. You just have to have enough instances where they are together. As it stands you spend all of five minutes game time with your LI, that could easily be done outside of the normandy. It would also add more variance to the LI system. Right now every LI is essentially the same except for Miranda, they all take place in the Captains Cabin. If you had a Liara romance in Liara's suite on Illium it would be different and unique.kraidy1117 wrote...

I think the 5 most popular squadmates should return to rejoin your squad along with you ME1 buddies and some new ME3 people. While the others might get cameos.
I think if Bioware puts to many squadmates in the game it will drain the experience.
If one LI is a squadmate, all of have to be able to be one. If Tali and Garrus are ones then Miri, Jack, Thane and Jacob should also be able to.
That is no fair. If Garrus and Tali are squadmates then all the other Li should be able too. Not everyone romanced or even likes Tali and Garrus. Hell I only used Tali only for her loyal mission, I never use her. Garrus however is the man
My point is BiowEAr could do it in such a way that the only difference between Liara, Garrus, and Tali is that you can't use liara in combat and it takes slightly longer to talk with them. They would have the same depth as a squadmate but in a better position strategically (Liara can do so much good as a shadow broker stand in). Any real Liara fans would be willing to wait the extra couple minutes to go to the galaxy map and visit Illium, it would just be the setting that would be different.
Which reminds me, wouldn't a swanky pad on Illium be much cooler and even more romantic place to talk with your LI than the Engine room, main battery, or possibly the observation deck? They could make the romance seem so much more real by having you cuddle on Liara's couch. Just think of the possibilities.

No, Tali is not Leia. Don't disgace a well done character like that.

Basically what I'm saying is that it is important that this is the end of the trilogy. End of Shepard's story, last chance to tie up loose ends. I think you'll be satisfied with Liara's roles in ME3, but I can really only hope for it it seems.jlb524 wrote...

The fact that they said she survives through ME2 to have a large role in ME3?As far as Liara, they've given no indication she'll return as a squad mate. I don't have faith that she will at this point. They might give her a DLC role and then side-line her again for the remainder of the series.

LOL nah if anything lIara is more like Liea in my mind, and if anything I would say Shepard is Han solo and Kirk in ME. Double package FTW

I know, right? I was having a hard time telling whether he was insulting Tali or Leia. They are totally similar though. Tali is strong willed, Leia is strong willed. Tali is something like royalty (You get to ask her if she is in ME1) and Leia is royalty (for a planet that doesn't exist). Both are useful in a fight (ME1 tali here). The list goes on and on (not really, I ran out of comparisons).Collider wrote...

Yeah, because space marines **HOOOOORAH!!!111!!1!** have really interesting character depth as showed with Ashley and Kaidan in ME1.
And if you found all of that silly, you're playing the wrong game.
(IMO) The vast majority of people that play ME & ME2 aren't on this board obsessing over their digital romance objects or fictional cyber-bros. They are not on here creating love and adoration threads or participating in them. That's the broader market that EA/BioWare are concerned with. It was a calculated risk for them to take a reasonably serious sci-fi plot and turn it into a teen oriented, space fantasy emofest. (IMO)
(IMO) I can only imagine that they were looking to expand their audience, but I'm not convinced that they succeeded. As of the end of February they hadn't yet sold a million copies of the game on the Xbox 360 in the US. Hopefully they've reached that milestone by now, but I'm pretty damn sure that they (EA/BioWare) were expecting better sales than that. With the big marketing push and millions spent on advertising they're not in the same league as something like Gears of War, Halo or CoD. Maybe they'll get the message that wacky, comic book hero wannabes are not all that compelling or interesting to the majority of gamers. (IMO)
(IMO) I'm firmly convinced that everything about ME3 was deliberately designed to attract a wider audience. The contrived plot that necessitated the destruction of the Normandy. The death of Shepard and his/her resurrection. The grotesque group of absurd and over-the-top characters. The sublimely ridiculous and stupid outfits for Miranda, Samara and Jack. The 'pure' Krogan, hilariously named Grunt, for the Wrex groupies. An alien assassin with remarkable and cinematic martial arts skills which contributed absolutely nothing to the actual mission. The morally ambiguous megalomaniac with cybernetic eyes that they constantly framed, just in case you didn't notice the first ten times they focused on them. And so on...(IMO)
(IMO) I really wish that they hadn't compromised the coherency and continuity of the original story because of it. The game itself seems to have this split personality of absurdity and seriousness trying to coexist within the same framework. One minute you're watching Jack take apart three Ymir mechs with biotics and bare knuckles. The next moment she's telling you about being abused and tortured in a Cerberus facility. It's an uneasy marriage of super hero stunt and sober drama. It was extremely jarring and off putting for me. (IMO)
(IMO) Basically, the story and cast didn't make any kind of sense to me. Fortunately, the production quality and everything else was top notch. It's great fun as a standalone video game, but I don't like it as a sequel for Mass Effect. I'm hoping like hell that they take a more serious approach with the story for ME3. And yes, that means that I want them to sideline this bunch of misfits from ME2 and give me a new squad to work with. (IMO)
