In short --- NOTHING that has anything to do with the Mass Effect story.

DLC is not meant to add to the main plot. There would be literally no way to regulate that.

I think the "It's free" reasoning is mostly valid. Imagine someone gives you a brand new car, for free. However, the car isn't the color you want, it isn't the type of transmission you want, and it isn't the car brand you want; are you really going to complain about it?

Yes, BioWare needs the constructive criticism, but when people just say it sucks because it's too short, boring and linear, how is that constructive?

I don't know... I might not want a car if it only runs on railroad tracks, even if free.
That said, I wasn't disappointed by the DLC because I wasn't expecting much to begin with.

I haven't gotten the Firewalker pack yet, so I won't speak specifically about it.

That said, I consider it perfectly acceptable and reasonable to offer criticism or state that a particular piece of DLC was not to your liking, even if it is free, but I also think that some people have been taking things a little far with their complaints.  BioWare is certainly not above criticism, but after a certain point it's just bad form to complain about how you hate something which was offered to you at no cost, especially when others have put some amount of labor into producing it.

If some cook is handing out kebab samples in a market, and I try it and don't like it, it's fine to tell an interested shopper that I found the cook's kebabs lacking, or that they weren't as good as others I've tried before, or to say that I wouldn't pay for them, but if I stood next to the cook's grill and began shouting at people who walk by that his kebabs are terrible, that their being free does not excuse him, and that his terrible kebabs clearly indicate that the cook has sold out to corrupting influences... well, everyone would just think I was a douchebag.

Obviously there are some differences here, not least of all the impersonal and anonymous nature of complaining on an internet forum as compared with harassing a person to their face, but I still tend to think it's hardly worth complaining that much over one little piece of free DLC, for me at least.  If BioWare starts to release full games or expansions or significant pieces of paid DLC that are of such low quality, then I will be concerned.  But if they want to throw a few extra missions at me at no extra charge, hell, I'll take 'em.  I would certainly prefer it if they were more substantial, but most of the N7 missions built into the game were quick little trifles to begin with.  I had fun doing them because I love the overall game, not because they were great on their own.  Of course, since we download these pieces of DLC separately, we tend to want to set them apart and attempt to judge them on their own, pitting them against the rest of the game rather than considering them as a part of the overall experience.

I do hope that the quality of any future missions that we are expected to pay for, though-- for the Hammerhead or otherwise-- will be at least on a level with the major plot missions.

While Criticism for a free DLC is fine in my opinion. Most of the complains I see about it is that its too short.

That would be where I feel "Its free stfu" would be the appropriate response.

If the complaints are about the vehicle, missions, controls or anything like that, then fine complain away.

But for any complaints about its length, its just silly.

You have to also realize that this was just to introduce the Hammerhead hover tank, because they're going to be releasing more DLC & probably bigger stuff like Exp. packs that involve using it more, and probably in more situations. What, you think they'd go to all this trouble to make the hover tank & 5 side missions that are all pretty much the same thing and then you have no more use for it anymore? Lol, if anyone thinks that, then they're probably an idiot. This was just an introduction to it an how to use it, the real use will come later..

Well likely this is an introduction and see how its liked because they'd probably throw it in ME3 if it went over well, since they are using the same engine.

Nothing is really free, since it costs bioware money to develop it. It's really just a hidden cost. From what I remember, this vehicle was hinted and advertised way back, so I consider it part of the price tag. One could even argue the money bioware put into it was money they could've spent on ME3 and it cost 2 million paying customers an extra good mission in the future.

So if I throw garbage in your face you shouldn't complain because it was free?

Sorrry but the free argument is rather getting old.

The cerberus network is not free. So the DLC isn't free. And no the cerberus network wasn't given for free, it was included in the original price of the product for new copy.

everything about the hammerhead was a disappointment. HammerHead feels like a mini-game, not epic world exploration. We didn't want the mako removed, we wanted full fidelity terrain, worlds and side-missions.

all we want is the mako back with rivers, valleys, lava flows, waterfalls and stuff to drive over that isn't the exact same terrain as ME1. give us full fidelity planet exploration please!

Well... I believe the firewalker DLC to be some sort of demo for whats to come... they simply gave us a short glimps at how it could work...

when they make an expansion for ME2, they will incorporate the HH into the missions... so I dont believe this DLC to be a joke... it last for about 1 hour, it is new content... so I think it is a good free DLC.

Like quite a few others, the OP seems to have completely misunderstood the nature of the DLC. Firewalker is not meant to be taken on its own. Its unfair to assess it and review as a seperate entity. Its a component of the greater game.

I've timed my third insanity playthrough to take into account new DLC, including firewalker, and kasumi when it drops. For me, firewalker works fantastically as just one more different type of ground mission. i am not doing each mission, one after the other, in a quick blast through them. I plan out my trips to the different systems based on a reason to be in that part of the galaxy. i dont just zip from one spiral arm to the other.

judging firewalker on its own would be like picking any 5 missions and saying they're crap on their own, or picking out the planet scanner on its own, or the weapons upgrade portion of the game. It wouldnt be fair, and it would be lazy.

on a personal note, the op has shown the typical lack of matuirty i expect from this board when it comes to their 'criticism', i.e. pathetic whining.

That's funny, the arshat would also fit your description, seeing how you bash everybody who doesn't appreciate HH. Guess that makes both of us arsehats!

Unrelated: Ye, a bit.

Anyway, I am not here to start another flame war, seeing that this forum has less active moderators than the Bethesda one.
