My 2 year old yelled "Oh ****!" the other day, so I'm pretty sure I need to cut back on the swearing. Or not let her watch Goonies anymore...

Edit:  Stupid censor... it's the naughty version of poop!

No no no!!!! Goonies should be required to be watched in grades 1-11.

Honestly children will learn to swear regardless. Like everything else in life it is up to those parents and others around the child to teach them to be responsible with the swearing. Or something like that.

I try not to if I get irritated I would otherwise no, its probably because I learned not to from experience like a slap.

i let my boys swear yes its also a way to express yourself . And i told then if your playing ball and get hit in the groin and it hurts there is no shame in showing it . And both have grown up to be gentlemen . i just tought then there is a time and place when not to swear . And it turned out that they swore less then their friends did . because it wasnt restricted , it wasnt a big deal to them.

edit  because also i raised two gammers . And games and swearing tend to go hand and hand  IMO

That's true.  And I agree about the Goonies, which is why she started watching it at age 2 Posted Image

i feel i did very well for being a single father to boot. i just remembered the things i wanted to do most as a kid where the things i was told not to do lol. Bad part was i was told not to do alot of things, doh.

edit  : they just dont learn history  and math in school and there is nothing you can do about it. They will all learn the words

WARNING BAD JOKE INCOMING!!

I hope you did not teach them proper grammer :)

Truthfully I am no parent myself but I am a uncle and godfather but like those childrens parents I believe it is better to introduce kids to the real world. Not try and protect them from what is really out there.

ok well i did not have a very good childhood no leave it to beaver home life for me . In the third grade i came to the conclusion if i was to make it in this life i should take care of myself . because nobobdy else was going to do it including family . So my schooling suffered . i was thinking of other things like eating and stuff. So forgive my bad grammer . i know its bad . But my oldest made the honor roll every year in high school . No when i couldnt help them with their school work i hired a kid that was 3 years older then them to help them . and no offence taken

addiction21. Only one credit ? hell you could get that from home with an online school . go for it . i bet you are far from enchantment level . and i could tell it wasnt ment mean . its just alot of people think bad grammer is a sign of the level of ones iQ. yes i diddnt finish HS i dropped out 11th grade . but 7 years later took some refresher classes to go for my GED and passed it the first time. Was strange though because there was alot of algebra . And i knew none. But still passed it. there is a trick with multipul choice tests. if you dont know the answer . just pick answer b or c and you will pass almost every time

Oh no need to worry I was ment to graduate in June of 2000. In July of 2000 I finished a two month Brit Lit course in 7 days and got my diploma.

English or language courses were and are always my kryptonie or achillies heal so to speak. Math, shcience, social study, and the such I could pass in my sleep (and I regularly did just that) but language courses just beat me down.

Well, it's not a case of me allowing it. I'm 20 so I still live with my mum, and she doesn't mind me swearing as long as it's not a certain few words.

But I tend not to though - I've spent nearly 20 years very rarely swearing (if at all) around her, so it's not a habit I've picked up.

Heh, this reminds me of a funny story. I was extremely PO'd at some teacher in high school, so I sent my dad a text message to let him know what happened and to let off some steam. It was full of profanity as I was obviously irritated(also at that point my dad didn't care if I swore or not). He had his phone set to read his text messages aloud, and happened to be in an elevator full of people when he got it. His phone started reading my profanity laced text message out loud...

He told me everyone in the elevator started laughing.

As for swearing in the house, my parents were too busy to care after 3rd grade.

There are some things you cannot deny to a Spaniard: alcohol, bashing your own country and profanity.

I tend to be creative in the way I insult so it does sound more funny than vulgar, though.

Hell yea! Then again, I'm my own household so nobody's stopping me from swearing. It shouldn't get out of hand, though. There's a certain amount of swearing you can pull off and still be cool, but beyond a certain point it's just weak.
