Not me. Can't do the female/female thing even for game purposes, and then after a couple characters Leliana started to grate on me so much that I don't even bother friending her any more. I don't hate her, she just... creeps me out. :P

I didn't... not on purpose. She just happened to... make me fall in love with her. My total intentions my first playthrough where to romance Alistair but... yeah. The dalish elf and the ex chantry girl got it on...
She had me in the bag when she told me about Alindra and her soldier, plus she has that voice...

Oh and Alistair seriously pissed me off when he says he can't be with you and Leliana. I was expecting him to say something like "No she's crazy and I only love you." but "I think everyman in the world is going to think Im crazy for saying this..." did not persuade me at all. Actually I thank him for making the decision easier.

I'm restoring a couple of female characters for an import into Awakenings and I forgot that I had the Free Love-mod still installed. So no Leliana at the moment for my girls, just sweet revenge-ritual with Morrigan. Let's see her get pregnant and running of now.

I did the first time firstly for the girl on girl and secondly for the achievement and then after that I've done it pretty much every time, male or female, just because she's so sweet : )

I did. My aim was to romance all 4 characters in seperate playthroughs. I did it in this order:

1) Male mage romancing Morrigan

2) Female noble warrior romancing and marrying Alistair

3) Female City Elf rogue romancing Zevran

4) Female mage romancing Leliana

I wasn't sure whether to romance Leliana with a guy or a girl, but her past with Marjolaine made girl/girl seem to fit better. Plus, she complimented my PC's hair.

I would romance her more often, but I can't stand her voice, her obsession with the Maker, her suicidal tendencies if you US, and she won't stop telling me stories that go on forever. Not to mention the option to harden her after her personal quest doesn't come off as just encouraging her to believe in herself/stand up for herself like Alistair's does but you can actually decide if she's going to stick to playing at being an innocent Chantry sister or decide she really does like being a bard (but she still talks about the Maker).

Once for the achievement. Leliana pisses me off, and more often than not I won't even take her along for the whole saving the kingdom from the blight thing. I swear, every time she talks she's just squawking about the Maker and I want to gouge her eyes out.

I did on my city elf. She was the second character I made. I made her pretty, but with a buzz cut. I saw her as a tomboyish character who wasn't too chuffed about the whole arrange marriage deal, and went right off men after the whole Vaughn trauma. Leliana was a nice romance for her.

I'm a straight female, myself, so I didn't do it for the hot lesbo action. However, I'm fully prepared to admit a lot of my male characters romance Zevran because I find the whole man-on-man thing rather titillating.

I've yet to romance Leli with a male, although I've had two males romance Morrigan. I've also yet to finish a female romance with Alistair (mostly because I can't bring myself to kill his nemesis at the Landsmeet).

How can you romance someone unintentionally? Like, you wake up one morning and she's naked in bed with you and you don't have any idea how that happened cause you weren't even drinking last night? The dialog lines that start the romance are blatantly obvious. The only way they could've been more obvious is if there was a giant neon arrow sign pointing at them that said "YOU START THE ROMANCE WITH THIS ONE LE RAWR"

Uh, not necessarily. Particularly for those of us who are somewhat romantically tone-deaf IRL; the first time I played the game, I was a f!mage and thought Alistair giving me the rose was just him being an awesome buddy, until he tried to kiss me the next time we talked. (And succeeded, thus tossing me into the everlasting flames of the Alistair Fangirl.) Leliana's is not obvious to me, and because her dialogue.approval is horrifically mangled, I have inadvertantly started a romance with her almost every single time I've picked her up- even though I always choose what looks like the 'safe, I don't want to sleep with you' option. Hell, one time I barely spoke to her. After the game ended, I warped back to camp and decided to chat her up a bit and she threw a snitfit for leading her on- qtf I was not expecting it, I'd been sleeping with Alistair since three hours into the game and was ready to ride off into the sunset with him.

teal dear: it's not always obvious, especially with the dialogue coding tangles.

It's especially not obvious if you do some of their basic dialogues which don't necessarily get you all that much approval, shower them with gifts so you can get their quests/they don't betray you and then the next thing you know your LI complains you're cheating on them and the next time you talk to them they're sad you apprently dumped them despite not actually speaking to them.

Same here, I wasn't expecting romances at all until Leliana got in a huff with my first character for flirting with Morrigan, I honestly thought I was just being civil to them... To be fair to me though the last game I played with romances in was BG2, which was an awfully long time ago now, and even then I didn't really know what was going on until they started fighting eachother.
Anyway, I chose Morrigan that time but pretty much every subsequent time it's been Leliana.

You need to choose specific dialog options in order to start the romance. They're not casually friendly, they're obviously flirty. There are two dialog choices you can use before the end of her personal quest in order to start the romance:

"You know, a beautiful charming woman like yourself.” / "Those initiates can’t have been more lovely than you.”

and the other is

"And do you enjoy the company of other women?” / “I think I might giggle and maybe look coy?”

See - flirty, not basic. Try saying that(especially the second one) to a (bisexual) woman and see whether she thinks you're being flirty or not. If you're oblivious to flirting - that's another story altogether.

I have, but only once. Most of my females go for Zevran and Alistair (with a Teagan side flirt of course).
My males often romance both Morrigan & Leliana at some point. Most of males also have a fling with Zevran though as well. My PCs, no matter the gender, have a very hard time resisting Zevran's flirts. Actually, my male PCs don't resist much of anything - Bella, Iona, Kaitlyn, Isabela - jeez...I guess my male PCs are a bunch of man-horrors - ah, well.

That's all dependent, though. I have no issues calling my female friends beautiful and charming. I certainly don't want to sleep with any of them. My character was trying to be nice and cheer them up and it just sort of veered off in the wrong direction. I'm not a flirty person IRL so tbh, only Zevran's 'options' are entirely obvious to me, since they're practically oozing innuendo. With Alistair initially, I chose the responses that made me laugh or smile and it so happened to start a romance with him, even though the first time I played, I didn't know romances were an option until Alistair decided to plant one on my PC. (was playing at my brother's house, knew nothing about the game at that point).

And let's not forget Leliana's classic stealth-romance! I agree with Valentia, though - sometimes the dialogue options (not including Zevran, or indeed Morrigan) can be slightly obscure. Good examples are asking Leli if she prefers the company of other women and picking any option other than 'sorry, not for me', or *particularly* asking if Marjolaine was special to her. Seriously, why does asking her if this woman she clearly idolises was special to her cause her to declare her undying love for you? It seemed like a perfectly innocent question from a concerned friend.

I hope you're not saying that Leliana doesn't fall in love with you at the drop of a hat, because too many of us have experienced Leli ninja love.

On my game, it always happens after her personal quest.  I can be going hot and heavy with one of the boys and just trying to be blandly friendly with Leliana, and next thing I know Morrigan is talking about exchanging glances with "that girl."

I no longer do her personal quest, or I just avoid the follow-up conversation.  Too many complications just trying to manage Zevran and Alistair.  :)

I didn't - she annoyed me. I tried to have my male elf rogue romance her, but it just didn't work. I felt like I was forcing an actor into a scene with an actress he despises, & I dropped it. (he stayed single.) I guess if my girl wanted another girl, it wouldn't be Leliana. She might have liked Morrigan, but the cute girlishness is hard to bear, either way. I did put my elf rogue with Zevran, who he liked better, but in the end, he just didn't seem the type to be looking for a relationship with anyone, not anyone he'd met, anyway.

Oooh - when Leliana announced that she 'knew about me & Alistair' in my altered-elf-marriage ending, I wanted to slap her. When she says he might 'learn to love me,' I debated reloading an Urn quest, defiling the ashes, & killing her. But - I didn't keep that save-line anyway, and it's back to a non-monarchial freedom for me.

I'm not terribly bothered by that, but I did get the impression she'd be the kind of woman who would fiddle with your hair.  I'd have to break her fingers for that.  Still, if you're in a certain type Alistair relationship, she can be really charming - she says something about 'the little templar is all grown up,' and he has a man-fit in the background. Loved that part.  But for some reason, if he's hardened and you're a human, you get the weird pouty break up.

I've taken to talking to him with just the two of us - you get fine lines for that, such as his 'but what if a monster comes along - how embarrassing!'  Those are now my favorite moments.   I take pictures.

really I would have *never* have guessed the blatantly flirty romance lines would lead into a romance!

seriously though Iv been downright mean to her before and had her ninja romance me FIVE TIMES in the same playthrough! iv even had to turn the romance OFF with the cheat console before and she STILL got pissy at me for sleeping with Zevran and then got upset and "broke up" with me after It was declared I was marrying Anora

I dont pick the romance options at all either since I cant stand the girl personally

I usually romance Leliana when the conversation gets far enough for it just to see how cute my current PC and Leliana would be as a couple before I'd revert back to a previous save (already had an active romance I was focusing on elsewhere). I couldn't get into Zevran until my third game when I finally found a mod that changed Zevran from a teenage surfer to someone that looked older and more sophisticated. Turns out that's the case for Leliana this time around. I always liked her as she was, but I found a mod that has her looking closer to her SA counterpart and it's really making me look at her in a different light now. I've been wanting to roll another dwarf commoner and I'm honestly torn between the female dwarf (I'm addicted to those gals) or going with a male dwarf this time. I am so charmed by Aimo's depictions of the male Brosca in a romance with Leliana that I'm going to have a very hard time picking the gender of the dwarf when I gun for Leliana specifically. Probably will be a girl unless my creative muse is not cooperating with the character creator! ;)

LOL! You crack me up.  Also the bit about breaking her fingers when she tries to fluff your hair... ROFLMAO, I can so see that happening.

But don't abandon Zevran, he is very devoted to a romanced Warden.  Come over to the Zevran thread, we will convert you.
