I would not necessarily agree with the OP that underwear in the cleansing ceremony is the most immersion breaking game element in the game, I would agree wholeheartedly that it is completely out of place in both that ritual and the sex scenes. Actually, made me laugh out loud at the silliness of it...hmmm..maybe the OP is right..it is possibly ONE of the most immersion breaking elements.

Well, for the sex scenes, the awkward animations are more distracting than the underwear.

Hehe, yes. That made me laugh too.

I'm no prude, but if they can't even get the animation of a simple swapping of saliva done proper, then fading to black would ever be so welcome during the "sex" scenes.  Fade to black and let the voice actors have fun with the sound effects.

I do love how my dwarf (the fellow over to the left, although this current incarnation hasn't actually made it that far yet) magically elevates to the proper height for the kissing scenes, instead of the other party leaning over.  It'd have been amusing if in those scenes the camera would pan back to reveal the upturned crate my dwarf must be standing on.

I zoomed out. He was standing on Alistair's back.

Having helmets magically dissappear for conversations is a bigger immersion breaker. Wish it was like Mass Effect.

Yeah, Mass Effect is a superior game in almost every way though.

One of these days they'll do a game where someone helmeted begins to talk, realizes they're being rude, then removes the helmet and either sets it aside or holds it as appropriate while apologizing and continuing their conversation.

In that same game, they'll enter the purification flames wearing their glued-on underwear and burn.

By the way, it is "morality" and not "morale". Look it up.

Oh, such a mistake in my 3rd language. My bad

And if I am to chose my words more carefully, the US is a clear case of double standards. Or is it that my generation is more like we immoral europeans? Either way, I've been there and liked it ^_^

Why should I give half a damn about views on morality and decency in any other country other than the US? US is where I (and you, apparently) live, and - newsflash - we have to abide by the laws and standards of the US, not those of Europe or anywhere else in the world.

If you don't like that, you could always move... when you are old enough, of course.

If you think that morality and decency is going to loosen up around here, you've got another thing coming (then again, you are obviously young and naive). As for being a prude, yes, I am a prude and proud of it.

You should probably look up globalization and it's affects on what the "standards" are world-wide.  Sorry this isn't the 1920s, countries are not isolated.  Ideas, morals, and "standards" flow freely between nations. Morality and decency (as defined by the church, which is what I assume you are talking about) has been "loosening up" for decades now.  You are obviously too blind to see it.  Wasn't too long ago, you would have been ostrictized for wearing clothing that showed your mid-drift and now that is common place all over the U.S.  Who was the young and naive one again?

Pretty sure he's more 'old-fashioned' than 'young and naive'. He would be right, if it were still the 50s.

Correct, but you could interpet it the way I phrased it.  As in he is naive to think the US follows the word of the church.  I think it works!

This is a cool thread lol.

I agree with the OP about the underwear kind of silly... for the cleansing fire AND for love scenes. As someone else said, using creative camera angles would have been better. Anyone watch nip/tuck? The only reason that show is allowed on television is creative camera angles. The nudity check box idea sounds good too.

I saw in some posts here (and on many other threads, forums, in real life etc.) the argument that even though it's a rated 18+ game, the devs/publishers have to consider that some minors will play it- and I think that's ridiculous. Should they lower alcohol content of drinks in case minors drink it? Put bigger filters on cigarettes? Blur out naughty parts in rated R movies or porn? Etc. That's one of the biggest annoyances in life. Lol. Adults exist. And should be allowed to consume content that is designed for them. And in regard to the values about nudity in the US... it's without a doubt some of the most uptight and ridiculous in the world. You can't show a breast on network TV but you can see someone sawing into someone else's chest. Anyway lol.

I think for me the most immersion breaking element is actually the zones/map travel. I realize in a game world that huge it's sort of a necessity. But I can't even imagine how mind-blowing Dragon Age would have been if it was one huge streaming world.

I'd have to agree that the transition screen between levels or areas was a distraction to the story.
With the PC version having a memory leak that makes those transitions longer each time you zone anywhere... for me it was long enough to get to the kitchen and make a fresh pot of coffee and return.. so about 3 minutes.

The game engine could use a fix for the memory leak, and the zones could all be cached so they get a 3 second load time. It's been demonstrated in another game engine i like to tinker with.. though I didn't get the resource from the developer.. he demonstrated huge areas being loaded in a blink.
For DAO, the zone cache method could be written into the game engine and then moving from area to area would be as simple as a fade out fade in.

Anyway, I didn't write DAO or any DLC for it, I just play the game.Posted Image

To non-US forumites: please don't take this guy as representative of us.  I mean, yeah, sadly there ARE quite a few people like this in the U.S..... but,( for example), the UK has BNP, so let's just call it even, alright?

Oh don't worry.  Speaking as a Canadian, I can truly say that most Americans I've met online are decent and open-minded people.

(Then again, there might be a sampling error - most of the international forums I hang out on tend to attract social liberals)

Yeah, I know. I'm actually dating one :P

The country seems pretty much split in half right now. Kinda sad.
