Altough the graphic problems issues aren't that big, i still have to question the origin so that i can try and remove them.

I'm using windows XP SP3, i have a core duo at 2.13, i have 2 Gb of ram and i use an ATI radeon hd 4670

Instalation went well, DLC was great, however these problems existed when i entered the game, altering the settings in the config or in the game doesn't seem to affect anything.

I run the game at 1680x1050 and i see 4 problems

1st is a horizontal and vertical line with a bunch of colors, it's like i run the game at 1679x1049 and the rest doesn't have anything but random color pixels, in-game these colors blury and go to the game image

2nd is a diagonal line that distorts the image but not the interface hud or text

3rd is regarding the ground when seen from a specific camera angle, i don't have a pic, but take the conference room, the ground becomes weird, it's like i'm runing the game on a insanely low resolution, everything else seems fine but the ground sometimes apears like this, with some big squares.

4th problem i'm not sure if it's actually a problem, ilumination or lights are not positioned correctly, it's usual for me to see the lights a bit to the left of the actual position. is it suposed to be like that?

What video driver are you using?  Number and date.  It's probably way too old, is all.  Get it from the source, not from Microsoft.  You may also have a loose connection somewhere.  Check that the video card is securely seated in its slot, and that both cable ends are tightened (the display end is probably permanent, so only the card end needs to be screwed in).

Last, have there been any electrical storms and your surge protection device wasn't anything special, so it was fried by a first surge, but there were two such during the storm?

I updated the drivers a few minutes ago, all the problems remain

Any ideas on what can be causing them?

Never rely on Microsoft's updates.  If that's why you don't know what you might have just done.  If at all possible, go straight to ATI / nVIDIA, as appropriate.

I updated the graphic board drivers, forget about them for once.

Game is fullscreen

Any other ideas (no it's not the drivers, please don't tell me that)

Are you using DVI (digital White Cable) or VGA (Analog Blue Cable) connection from your Video Card to monitor?

VGA (Analog Blue Cable)?

Yes

Are you able to use the DVI instead of the VGA? I am making the assumption that you have an LCD display.
Do both your monitor/LCD and Video card have DVI adapters?
Your problem may be the Digital (GPU) -> Analog (VGA cable xfer) -> Digital (LCD) conversion process.

I'm using the VGA on both ends, my LCD monitor uses VGA and my board can use both (either VGA or DVI)

This almost looks like you have a problem in one of three places:

1. A problem in the Video card Digital to Analog VGA conversion.

2. A bad VGA cable.

3. A problem in the LCD Analog to Digital conversion

Do you have a DVI to VGA converter?

Do you have a spare VGA cable?

This is the brute force swap out parts until you find the problem method.

You can try several of these things:

1. Swap out the VGA cable.

2. Use the DVI-to-VGA converter and use the DVI output (the DVI also outputs VGA)

3. Try another LCD.

You'll have to excuse the people asking you to update your drivers. Your problems do look like a hardware or driver issue. I'm also running at the same resolution and have not had anything like that.

Some other things to check. They might seem obvious or dumb, but it's always good to start with the basics - what resolution is your monitor set at in Windows? Is this a new monitor, or have you made any changes recently in the config for the monitor? Is the monitor set at it's recommended frequency? Are you forcing applications to fit a certain config, or are you letting applications control them? For example, things like Anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing mode etc

Definitely check the sitting of your graphics card. They can get misaligned sometimes. Even just a tug on the monitor cable can shift the card enough to foul things up a bit.

I have actually had this issue with a laptop, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a driver issue. I thought it was either the way the graphics card was hooked up to the screen or one of the signal lines on the graphics chip went slightly strange. I did note that it was far better on some resolutions than others. Have you tried swapping resolution about in-game to see if it aids at all?

I have a DVI to VGA converter, i used it and the problem persists.
I doubt it's the cable's fault or the LCD as i only have these problem in this game, everything else runs fine and i mean everything.

Windows resolution is at 1680x1050 (same as the game)
Frequency is the recomended one
I do have ATI tray tools to force certain configs, but since the game is actually named masseffect2 and not UT3 then the configs will not apply, meaning the game is controling the antialising, ansitropic filter,....

I will try and make sure the graphic card is well plugged in, and i will try another game resolution.

*EDIT*
Removed the graphic board, cleaned it and placed it again correctly, same problems apear.
Regarding game resolution and/or window mode, it doesn't affect it, the diagonal line and the weird colors on the edges are still present no matter the resolution or display mode,  i tried a few combinations and the problems persist.

It cannot be the cable's fault because if it was a faulty cable, we wouldn't be able to tell from a screenshot. The fact that the card is actually rendering it like this suggests that it's either a driver problem or a hardware problem.

Are you using ATI Tray Tools to overclock you're card? To me, those look like gpu artifacts, a sign of over-heating or card malfunction from overclocking. My advice, dump any custom card configs you have, especially the clock settings, configure your preferences through Catalyst Control Center (don't force anything like vsync or AA) and give it a try.

Also, you could try rolling back to a different set of drivers. Either way, make sure that whenever you change drivers you do a total clean install (deleting all the driver files and registry settings left behind...see tweakguides.com for a great walkthrough)

What’s your power supply?
Is the card overheating or getting hot?
Is the inside of you PC clean or full of dust?
Do other game render ok with this card?
How old is the card?

and you are using the newest driver from ati right

It's not overheating as i have plenty of fans, the temperature is actually very good and even if it isn't these problems apear as soon i enter the game, at that point the temperature of the board is like 35 celsius or less, i think that's not hot enough.

I had an older set of drivers, same problem, i updated them (as one sugestion) and the problem persist.
Power suply is enough
Pc doesn't get that hot
PC case is cleaned ocasionally, there isn't dust
Other games render at 100% with this card
The card is 3 months old
I have the newest drivers from ATI

I use ATI try tools because it has alot more options then cataclist control center (CCC), in no way the card is overclocked or overheating and even with the definitions enabled mass effect 2 does not accept them unless the exe is named UT3, so all the options have no effect on the game.

*tries disabling options on ATI tray tools*

*EDIT*
No dice, everything off or aplication controled, vsych was already off btw, nothing changed, when i enter the main menu i still see the diagonal distortion and the random pixel colors

I am still waiting for this problem to be solved.

It seems that this diagonal line where the image breaks causes some groups of horizontal pixels to go miss align, altough they are showing correct graphics, each group represents in a different area, making the overall image background look squarish, it's like the image of mass effect doesn't fit at

1650x1080, to bad it doesn't fit at any resolution i put or mode (full or windowed)

Is there an option in the config files that i can try to solve this?

Bumping because the support is terrible
