True, but considering the fact that they rendered 1/8th of the people in the U.S. ineligible (and essentially 96% of the world is ineligible, including Canada), I can't help but believe that the only winners in this sweepstakes are EA and their sponsors.

So much for their community event then.

Wow such much anger. I kinda figured Europe would be used to being the ass of the gaming community by now.

I don't live in Europe. Australia here, which is worse. We're constantly getting jipped.

I'm pretty sure Bioware would be happy to have the contest open to everyone if it were possible, but it's probably something legal (like lottery/contest laws) or agreements with the sponsors that has kept it limited to the US.

Why do you guys feel obligatedto get all this free stuff anyways? Bioware certainly has no obligation to you past the original product. If you guys are just going to complain when Bioware tries to do nice things like this, they'll probably stop doing it altogether.

Seems to me you are missing the point. The issue that I and apparently a number of other BioWare fans have with this "epic" contest isn't that there's a contest where freebies are being given away (good on BioWare, EA and their sponsors - I approve of their initiative). The problem lies in the fact that their community is an international one and they advertised the countdown to this "epic" announcement internationally over a five day period and only upon reaching the end of the count down (after a server crash,) is it revealed that it only applies to people residing in most, but not all, of the United States of America. That leaves a lot of BioWare fans high and dry feeling like second class customers whom are allowed to watch the festivities but are not allowed to join in the fun in spite of being an active part of the BioWare community that is supposed to celebrate, participate and enjoy this bazaar.

Whether it's due to a lack of forethought or perhaps a state of general indifference to the rest of the world, it comes across as a proverbial slap to the face. My money as a European is good enough to accept when I'm purchasing Collector's Editions of various BioWare games yet because of my place of residence I no longer get to be included in an event that was advertised to the whole BioWare community. That's poor form in my opinion and it's not about feeling entitled to get anything free from BioWare. It's about being treated equally and shown the same courtesy that US residents (those aged 18 and above and not residing in Florida or New York,) receive. If for whatever reasons BioWare and EA didn't want, or couldn't, include the rest of the world then it wouldn't seem to require all that much effort to make a brief announcement ahead of time that the countdown event only applies to a specific national/regional market.

This is one issue with the Internet. International community but companies can't afford an international event.

Which 1/8th of the US are we talking about? Children? Tons of legal issues with intra-state contests involving children, and international laws as well. Blame lawmakers and worryworts, not EA or Bioware.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID IN FLORIDA, NEW YORK AND WHERE PROHIBITED.

Florida and New York make up at least 13% of the U.S. population.

I think it has something to do with Taxes, I see Florida and New York being prohibited in a lot of sweepstakes. Or something to do with their laws this is a fairly recent development.

Who cares? The point is that this was to be a community event. That includes the community members of Florida, New York, Canada and the rest of the world. Apparently they are good enough to be milked by EA, but not good enough to be part of the community.

Didn't even notice that. Florida's laws are ridiculously lax. Almost all spammers or "Cash 4 Gold" companies operate down there. New York is the opposite I guess.

The state laws exclude you, not EA. So,  your anger is misplaced. Get on your lawmaker's butts not EA/Bioware.

Good, next time people are speculating I won't chime in with a possible reason to explain the speculation.

While I am disappointed and put out by this turd of a marketing move, your signature tickled me nonetheless.

Hehe. You are kidding, right? If Asus is able to have a world wide competition then all of a sudden EA cannot do the same? Try to think.

That's one way to go about it. Another way is to assign responsibility squarely at the feet of the entities responsible for this event (i.e. BioWare and EA).

YES. Yes. Bioware twirled their evil corporate moustaches, selected a few US states at random, and gave the finger to the rest of the world because they were in the mood for being colossal pricks. Thre is obviously reasons for why this is. For whining about "not being apart of the community" anymore, some of you are still actively posting in it.

I don't think this something worth getting your knickers in a twist about.
