It says at the very end of contest rules that its being done by EA in California. What ive seen of the challenges so far is basically thinly veiled advertising, sign up to follow us on twitter, make referals on facebook. They should have at the very least said the countdown was for americans only. Thats the worst part of it all, not being excluded but more or less being invited to watch someone else win.

I really like the idea, but like everyone else I'm somehow disappointed that only residents of the US are allowed to participate.

I'm from the UK, so naturally pretty annoyed that I got excited over merely a region exclusive competition which was bigged up as a big community wide event for a week... However I've seen this happen before (on a smaller scale) and can brush it off. What -really- amazes me is that this competition (for fans of Bioware hah) isn't open to Canadians?

Bioware was founded in Canada, no if, buts, or maybes Canadians should get a look in above anyone else.

Exactly, it is not so much about who is responsible for this (BW or EA) but it is setting a sign, in which Europeans come out as 2nd class customers once more. It is a constant frustration, at least for me.
And yes, for calling it an 'Epic Event'... lol, well maybe for you but not for me.

I agree with you. I am European and I remember having to wait for Awakening 2 days. I also remember that during some time I could not buy any shirts from the shop because of this.

I think it was a bad move, Bioware/EA/whoever. Not to offend any americans, but i think that canada+europe+australia+rest of the world has a bigger customer base than U.S.A.
I don't really understand this. And then there is the New York/Florida thing... WTF?

Gotta be honest:

Even if I was in another state besides New York, I probably wouldn't participate in this event. Excluding the entire community is a fail move, especially for something as big as the 15th anniversary.

Good luck to whoever decides to participate...

As far as Florida and New York being ineligible, that's not BioWare's call. That's the laws of those two states that prohibit this kind of contest from taking place there. Might also be something similar keeping them from offering it overseas.

You like the idea of whoring yourself out to EA as a viral marketeer? For a t-shirt? A hat? A book?

I already own half that stuff on the list other than the co-branded computers which is just like...what the hell do I need another computer for? I've got four custom built ones on my desk already and my AW M17x Laptop.

So this is just like...wow did you really need to do a count down?

I can't believe Bioware would allow this to happen. I mean they aren't even including the country they're based in! (Canada, obviously) I was so excited and then it was pointed out to me that it only the states.. I felt pretty crushed admittedly. They should have atleast said before hand that it was a USA thing only, I woke up at 8 after a night out so I could be ready in time to see this, rushed through everything and now I feel all kinds of stupid.

It did seem so epic at first.. but really it's Epic Fail.

Guys.

Have you thought that maybe Bioware didn't plan this? I mean, they are a Canadian company... it sounds like this is some marketing thing... probably EA.

They should have called it "local community event".

I feel disappointed. :?

Not sure I understand why a Canadian game company didn't make their contest available to Canadians...

It's sad to see how a company that makes such excellent games keeps shooting itself in the foot when it comes to customer relations. Just look at the entire DA:O Xbox patch fiasco or how the issue with the english voicepack for the german ME2 version turned out. And now this huge hype for a very regionally restricted "contest". I mean, if you hype something, you better be sure that it is awesome, otherwise you get exactly this kind of backlash and risk becoming the laughing stock of the net.

its not the the discussion of the bazaar being worth the hype or not..its just that worldwide bioware players got all fuzzy about an "epic community event" and now...that.

It should have been called EA's Bioware Bazaar.

So lets recap. Their Epic Fail just keeps getting worse or better depending on which you want to see it, either way it isnt great.

--Only US residents of 48 states, excluding one of the most populous states oh well NYC. Oh and the rest of the world that made Bioware/EA so much money.

--Truly uninspired contests at launch. should have hired me I have a ton of experience in events and programming (non-computer)

--Most of the points are from twitter!!! Many people use it, but many dont...

Some other ideas for the Bazaar points that make more sense.

--points for acheivements in ME2, DA:O and DA:OA.

--Points fors characters you have already created in ME2, DA:O and DA:OA

--Screenshot contest with certain characters in specific areas.

--Points for BUYING the DLC's. Seems like a no brainer!

--Points for the number of times you have finished each game.

Those are just of the top of my head. What do you all think should be counted or would be a cool idea for getting points that actually related to the games(i.e. not twitter)

Alright, in an attempt to sound less ****y, I think this needs to be said:

From my experience, Bioware has always supported the community. Hell, look at "The Old Republic"'s website: they have an entire section for fan art and the like.

However, to be completely honest, Bioware's staff should have thought out this contest a little better. Having a contest that restricts only 48 states, and the District of Columbia, to being the /only/ participants in a contest for the 15th anniversary... that's a really dumb move to make, especially with the fan base they have.

Bioware will, hopefully, continue to support the fan base and look out for our interests, but I think if they knew this event would be so exclusive, they should have just said "No, we'll find another way to give out this merchandise", then have some kind of, I don't know, in-game event that players could participate in? Or perhaps Bioware could have modded something for Dragon Age or Mass Effect 2 that players could download and use to celebrate the 15th anniversary. The ideas are endless of what Bioware /could/ have done, but instead, they went down the route of making a very, very exclusive contest. I'm surprised, to say the least, but there's not much I, a fan, can really do about it, right?

Never the less, I'll still check the Bioware updates and such to keep up with their games and everything. I am, to be honest, shaken from this move of theirs, but hopefully I'll see improvement in the near future. I just hope they don't pull a stunt like this with The Old Republic (IE: Building up a ton of anticipation, then shooting us down).

So congratulations, Bioware, on your 15th anniversary, but next time, please try to consider the fact that the entire community wants to be a part of the celebration, not just the Americans.

I'm very sad. What should i do with my 5950 tokens now?:crying:
Bioware, you broke my heart. I will need two DA and three ME playthroughs to fix it.

Dunno but the UN Population Division claims that in 2008. there were 732 million people in Europe and 337 million in North America (Canada, USA, Greenland, Bermuda etc.). So basicaly thats double the population than North America. And we are looking only at Europe from the non-US countries (the world is at cca 6.8 billion now, wow. Look at how far have we gone since the Black Death).

So lets recount: Game launches in Europe are ALWAYS 2-3 days behind US launch dates.

Mass Effect 1 - Nov 20 US and Nov 23 2007 EU for XBox, May 28/June 6 2008 for PC, and oh May 21 2009 Xbox for JAPAN. Poor fellas. Maybe its revenge for their lag? Dunno.

Dragon Age: Origins - Nov 3 US and Nov 5/Nov 6 for EU and Australia, Xbox and PC.

Mass Effect 2 - Jan 26 US, Jan 28 EU and Australia, Xbox and PC with additional problems for Collectors Editions outside the US. I bought y ME2CE about a MONTH after the game came out.

So I dont get it. I didn't finish managment, but to me it looks like BioWare (or EA for that matter) are neglecting a customer base double the size of the one in the US for what? The world is one, are they still thinking in ways of nations and peoples? I shudder to think the treatment we might get for SW:TOR. European servers in America? Launch a week after the North American one? No thank you. Lets all pray things change in the time untill the game comes out.

Hmpf, pathetic. Bioware (and EA for that matter) got to have a screwed up sight on life.

Inviting your friends over to a party and greeting 8/10 of them with a kick in the nuts and then ****** on them while they're down kind of makes people angry. I guess I'll stop buying stuff from Bioware (in addition to EA). They seem to run after EA licking their butt and following every example so it's just a matter of time till they've sunk just as low. I planned on buying Awakening at the end of the month but **** that, I'll probably get it some other way or just let it be. I won't give my money for this kind of treatment.

Thanks BioWare! I'm a big fan of your games and I even buy your games for PC and console so you do get alot of money from me! So I'm grateful you're doing something for your fans!

But, oh wait, I'm from Europe so apparently I'm not a big enough fan to participate in this event. :/

This is the worst insult ever, it is like pissing and ****ting the fans in the face and only clean the faces of 20% of their fan base
