This may have been asked previously, but wouldn't it work to just CTRL + click the links instead of opening them and closing the tab with CTRL + W? With this method I can open a link in less than second and then close a whole string of opened tabs rapidly.

Tip: Ctrl+Left Mouse Click, will open the link in a new tab in the background. So you can keep clicking on links and just close the entire window when your done.
