It's forums like these that are a conduit for all things I despise in verminous self-righteous head cases like the ones in this thread. Quoting from a post on Kotaku;

"I work for a contest company, the reason that they exclude Florida and New York is because those two states require you to "bond and register" your promotions with those states. Basically, it means that Bioware would have to jump through a bunch of hoops and pay money (or face fines) to the states of Florida and NY. So, New Yorkers or Floridians, blame your states.

As for Canadians, you cannot legally award a prize to a Canadian through a game of chance. Therefore, Canadians are not eligible for a sweepstakes or an instant win promotion. The loophole is a math skill test, which would be complicated and expensive for Bioware to employ.

Basically, Bioware took the cheapest and most reasonable route and avoided Canada, Florida, and New York." - juxtaposed11

It's a promotion, and a very large one at that. What? is there something wrong with that? They do these kinds of things in the realms of feasibility and all anyone can do is complain. It makes me wonder why I even bother, trying to bring sense and logic to the idiots on the internet who couldn't probably even spell "logic."

I actually agree with this.  The reason I'm pissed is that they had a 7 DAY countdown timer for *drumroll* a give away contest tied to twitter....

Seriously that is the least countdown worthy thing I've ever heard of, and to have a 7 day countdown that fuels expectations and hype to absurd levels for such an uninteresting event is a massive let down.

Indeed, there is nothing wrong with the idea of making feasibility a factor or even a focus but i want you to stop a second and LOOK at it as well as even the Dr.Pepper stuff. Having promotions to do this outside of where your going to limit it is "rooster-teasing" at its worst, more so when you have MILLIONS of fans, loyal and willing to help spread the good name of your games. Stepping over some to get to what must be "Prime" people (aka, people in most of the US) seems like focus selling..and i used to work for people who did that. Its FULL of underhandedness likethis. Simply contacting EA -EU and having them deal with the EU side would not be hard. Also, NY and FL laws are not so painful as to make this difficult for them. While state-rules make it hard, it dosn' give a reason to fail to mention BEFORE the event that this isn't focused at them.

Simple point : if it was such a small deal, this wouldn't be 100 pages + of people WANTING ANSWERS or maybe just a fair reason to be excluded. You arn't part of a "EPIC EVENT FOR EVERYONE" as it seems, your excluded for where you live without warning.

I just heaved a BIG sigh of disappointment at seeing the contest only open for US residents, but then again, as an Australian, I'm kinda used to being left out of game competitions by now. :P I feel more for the people in Florida and New York who are probably apoplectic about this announcement right now.

Good luck to the people taking part, but for the rest of us, it's a big let-down, Bioware. :P

I have read every damn post in this thread...

Took me two hours to read what I couldn't read because I was at college for 3 hours. Seriously, wow... It's better than a sitcom, I haven't laughed that much at people raging in a God damn while.

Truly, this is a non-community event of epic proportions. I love you fanbase.

(Btw, I'm a male 20 years old French-Canadian Law Student, I have a part-time job as a cook, I have access to a healthcare system and I am fully vaccinated.)

Just kidding.

I know exactly where your coming from. Aussies always seem to be out of the loop- it would have just been nice to have an IP filter restrict the java script countdown to US ip addresses, rather than hype up the rest of the world.

I intially was under the impression that this was available to all members of the bioware community- which is what got me excited in the first place, as we normally miss out on this type of stuff.

Not just competitions, but usually LE/CE games which have the flak cut out of them as it's too expensive to ship it here.

Ah well... DLC still would have been a nice bonus though.

Edit- I wonder how my wife feels about monogamy... I'm a 26 year old computer engineer, I have fulling functioning reproductive organs (proof though my 3 children), and I like walks along the beach.

BioWare has run sweepstakes in Canada before. Asking the winner a math question is not 'complicated or expensive.'

I'm sure it wouldn't fix if for everybody, but I think some people would feel just even a little better if Bioware posted a little apology. Here, I'll lay it out:

"We're sorry for how this went down. We got carried away with something we thought was cool and didn't think a couple of things all the way through. We promise to do better by our awesome community next time by taking the feedback given in this thread for how to improve fan interaction. Thank you for your love of our games, it is truly what keeps us going. We promise to do better by you in the future."

I'm meh about the whole contest but I can feel enough for other fans of Bioware games to take the 10 seconds to think what should be said by Bioware. Just say it somebody...anybody...you don't need the PR department to come up with something...have some empathy and do what any 8 year old knows is right and apologize to your buddy for telling him you had a cupcake for him and then giving that cupcake to the girl next store because she makes you feel funny.

At any rate. BioWare is digging themselves a deeper and deeper grave. This 100+ thread could have ended LONG ago if they had just taken the initiative to say something to their cheated supporters.

The deeper issue here is not the event. It is the way Bioware has chosen to market their product in partnership with EA, Dr. Pepper, Twitter, etc...

I think what many are upset about here is the feeling of being duped for greedy corporate interests. In America, this is all too familiar.

Bioware, I assume, is relatively new to this mode of advertising. And it is new to the gamers who have been fans over the years, unaccustomed to jumping through hoops.

Now with multi-corporate promotional deals and Bioware just begging to slap their logo on your forehead, it's little wonder it leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths.

Feels like they have joined an unsavory crowd.

What an absolute farce. Bioware gets fans all over the world excited for a contest that is then only open to Americans, and not even all Americans at that.

Thanks for the massive letdown Bioware.

Now...here is a question for you...what about ALL the other countries that were cut out?

When was the last time you or someone else reading this thread seen a worldwide contest let alone a contest that includes all of the US states or european countries. It is simply not feasable.

Here's the problem you people have:

You hyped over a COMMUNITY event. That should have told you something, COMMUNITY, COMMUNITY, COMMUNITY EVENT.

What does that tell you? That it wasn't going to be anything good anyway, no matter what.

No, that is not true. Don't make exuses, the reason your country and all the others are not part of this contest is because the legality to do such a think would be an insane task that will never get off the ground.

im not debating the fact that i was left out of the competition (i know all that legality bs that goes on)
i AM disapppointed by the complete lack of disrespect shown by bioware/EA in the lead up to this epic 'community' event

i like many dont actually care about the competition, i probably would not of entered it if i was even eligible.

what i do care about is the dishonest marketing bioware have engaged in. they have burned a hell of alot of bridges with this action and what message do we get from it? that their appreciation of fan support for 15 years from most of the planet is meaningless and we are nothing but $ to them.

im not angry, im not even annoyed, i actually dont care anymore about any further announcements from bioware because they have proven they cant be trusted with announcements, they disrespect the community and they dont even have the common decency to release an official statement

This would be nice if it really did span the globe. I understand though that EA is likely behind this not Bioware, or at least they have a hand in it. I mean Bioware is a Canadian company and although EA does have a Canadian branch...they aren't willing to cover international shipping costs...

I still love Bioware, and while I don't feel the sting some others do, it's certainly a bit of a disappointment.

This kinda sucks. I too am Canadian and I felt like an idiot for getting excited for not reading the fine print.

Seriously though, I didn't even WANT the big stuff. What I wanted was the t-shirts and posters for Mass Effect. T-SHIRTS... and POSTERS. Seriously... Canadians can't even win stuff that trivial?

Dissapointed, to say the least.
