They couldn't really have told anyone without spoiling the fact that it was a contest. Next time they might think twice about announcing a promo in this manner, but doesn't really matter at this point.

Promo contests tend to work this way, the fact that there are a number of people complaining only really shows they don't understand that.

Eh... no, they could easily have said 'Epic US Community Event' or 'Epic Community Event, US-Only' or something similar.

And they would have saved a lot of criticism bby avoiding the word EPIC in such a lame contest, prefferrably avoiding the countdown for non-US residents as well. A simple sticky announcment would do the job, imho, with much less colaterals!

To why this contest is not available to other countries (without the legal jargon): "This Contest is sponsored by Electronic Arts Inc., 209 Redwood Shores Parkway, Redwood City, CA 94065. The Contest is governed by and is in accordance with the laws of the state of California in the United States of America.

There are too many different laws governing contests for each country. (I.E. legal fees, filing, jurisdiction issues, so on and so forth.) I assume their legal department didn't find it plausible to open the "contest" to people outside of the U.S. for (probably) those exact reasons. Who here can claim to own a multi-million dollar business, or claim to be a business lawyer, and know the inner workings of such a business. I'm sure there is a lot more to it then just leaving people out because "they forgot" about you.

Should they have done the "contest" if everyone could not be included? Perhaps not. Was PR wrong? Maybe it was. But, at least they were trying to give SOMETHING back.

Purchasing their games does not entitle you to anything, either (save for consumer rights issues such as defects relating to said product.) Regarding your earlier argument, Finc, that you must buy their games for tokens is invalid. If you had read all the rules, you may take a "quiz" to earn the same amount of tokens (and all it takes is a bit of reading from the respective sites.) The forums are also a free service for people to congregate and discuss something they like, get help on any specific game, report bugs, or any number of things to help Bioware improve their games/services.

I understand the anger coming from the community, but outright flaming and insulting the companies involved won't get you anywhere.

(Also, do not try the "this does not affect you" argument. I have missed out on contests only open to Canada/Europe/*insert country name here* before and have moved on. I am only applying logic in this case.)

They still could've made something else, something that was  "Epic".

For the 10000th time the issue isnt the contest, the issue is the false advertising before the contest, implying that it was to be community wide. And THAT was the fault of Bioware. Pay attention.

Yep... and the fact that we were all invited to some EPIC event, spent 6 days on a queue for admittance and what? what? The event is far from Epic and we had the door shut right in our faces!

Perhaps we should avoid such disparaging statements with an oversimplification and generalization which really doesn't become us.

I can only speak for myself, but that's pretty much all I'm saying.  I've moved on from my initial "what?!?!  No fair!" reaction, and I'm just puzzled as to why they would pump up the anticipation for *everyone* and then let some of us down.  A little forewarning would've been nice.

Morning all, i see we are still going strong heh. Still no reply or anything else for that matter, guess they are waiting for the community to calm down a bit first - though for the most part i thought we where being calm about it last night, more sarcastic then flaming anyway. Guess we shall just have to wait and see.

One last plug for the non-community social group for now: http://social.bioware.com/group/1797

yes they could have made a post saying "its US only" or simply edited the count down saying US only. Like i said before im shocked that everyone at both Bioware and EA did think that this was a great idea.

Considering the annoyance and rage about Oghren and Mhairi in Dragon Age Awakening and now this, I'm starting to think someone at BioWare just really likes getting a rise out of their fanbase.

Good trolling attempt BioWare, it is entertaining.

The sense of entitlement here is hilarious.
Keep posting guys!

Paying money for their products and actually have an account on their so called community would VERY MUCH make us ENTITLED.

I hear there is a short pier you can take a long walk on.

You don't honestly believe that ............. do you?

Sure I do.

It's how they handled the whole thing. How are we not entitled to respond when they said 'COMMUNITY" in the countdown.

We are here we have social accounts we pay for their products, in case you completely missed it you get MOST tokens by PAYING bioware money.

So absolutely we are entitled to respond and show our disdain for this debacle.
They brought it upon themselves with how they did it.
A post in the forum as an announcement that they will have a Bazaar and that they can UNFORTUNATLY only make it available to US citizens would have been a lot better.

Seriously , they hyped an event which the WHOLE Bioware community payed attention to.
You know the other 90% saw the same banner.

I agree that it was handled poorly and they made a mistake in calling it an "Epic Community Event."

But that does not make anyone entitled to anything. You are not forced to buy Bioware products or participate on the forums. You voluntarily choose to participate or purchase Bioware products. The overreaction to not being eligable to be in a contest is a bit ridiculous at this point.

And really beyond the custom computers, xbox and Alienware laptops the rest of the rewards are lame. And alienware kinda sucks massively.

Actually, I just think that they would've avoided a lot of criticsm by mentioning that not all would be included, and then it would've been no biggee.

Ah yes, "the rest of the world". I thought we dismissed that claim.

Yeah, thanks for that.

Don't get the entire community riled up if you're only going to cater to the US-fanbase.

Thanks for nothing, Bioware. (Has it been mentioned that these guys are based in Canada, by the way?)

Think the word "Community" was a bigger problem then the word "Epic". Then again the international timer was a bigger problem then either word combined.

C'est pas un chant communiste, ça...  Ca n'a pas vraiment sa place, ici, et ça va nous faire des ennemis, et pas avancer la cause...

For those of you who need the translation, it's the first stanza of "l'Internationale":
"Arise, wretched of the earth
Arise, convicts of hunger
Reason thunders in its crater
This is the eruption of the end
Of the past let us wipe the slate clean
Enslaved masses, arise, arise
The world is about to change its foundation"

Agreed. Americans have nothing to do with it. It is personal! Someone with a real small mind, lousy PR skills, poor marketing background and tunnel vision thought of something bad and somehow sold it and it was made public! I'm not sure if that's the guy I'm mad at or at the people who bought such lousy idea. But American gamers are our friends as they have alweays been. Even if they can't resist and participate in the contest. Someone's gotta win those rubbish.
