That still doesn't make the statement contradictory. The supposition of my statement is irrelevent to any context regarding what your opinion is relegated as merely that it is my opinion that you are wrong. What the statement breaks down to in essentiallity is "You are allowed in all rights and purposes to have your opinion, and I am allowed in all rights and purposes to tell you it's wrong when you post it on the internet." Which does not promote any factual basis or derived conception of factual basis. It is however an assertion that I believe you are wrong.finc.loki wrote...

I order for the statement to be contridictory I would have had to state that " Your opinion was allowed then state that it wasn't." What I stated is that "You are entitled to your opinion. And when posting it on the forums, I am entitled to tell you that it is wrong."finc.loki wrote...
Of course it's a contradiction.
You can't say "I am allowed" and then say "I am not allowed", that is an inherit contradiction.
Whether the "content" of said subject is right or wrong has NOTHING to do with the contradictory term you made.
So yes, it IS a contradiction.
Not only that, you also in the same sentence made the following claim:
"you're entitled to tell me what is right or wrong".
That is hardly the same as having "entitlement to an OPINION".
So to simplify it for you:
You said I have the right to have an opinion, but in the same vain you go on to say that ,YOU have the right to tell me that the opinion is wrong.
Not once did you mention that what you say is also an opinion.
Another point for you to ponder:
An opinion is just that an OPINION, right or wrong has nothing to do with it.
So yet again your whole sentence about entitlement went out the window.
You're starting to head in to the same territory of "epic fail" as Bioware , with all these mistakes.
Which is not a contridictory statement.
A contridictory statement is the following:
"My spelling is poifect." Given the word perfect is misspelled the statement is therefore contridictory because it nullifies the statement of the spelling being perfect.
The statement of "You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to tell you your opinion is wrong when you post it on the internet." is not a contridictory statement due to the fact that I am not signifiying that you are not allowed to have an opinion. I am signifying however that you are wrong. I am also signifying that we are both entitled to our opinion.
Ah, but the crux lie in this snippet:
"I am entitled to tell you that it is wrong."
You should have said:
I am entitled to tell you that IN MY OPINION, that it is wrong.
The contradictory part is that according to you whenever I speak it is opinion, but when you do it is fact.
Remember SEMANTICS.
It all started with you or someone else saying that WE are not entitled to whinge/whine/complain.
Which is not now or ever a contradictory statement. I do not believe I said that you weren't allowed to whine or complain in this thread, altho I agree with that sentiment often. I believe I said that it's time to get over it and grow up before I posted my question to you about believing that you were entitled to anything because you purchased Bioware products and created an account on the forums.

Liquor only dulls the senses and makes it vanish for a period of time. It'll still be there when you sober up.

Actually you can. You don't have to agree with someone to believe they have a right to their opinion. I may not agree with what someone says but that doesn't mean I don't think they have the right to say it.
All people have the right to an opinion on any topic of their choosing. That doesn't translate to having the right to EXPRESS that opinion. The right to expression is earned as far as I am concerned.
Unfortunately the, "Great Levelling," that occurred with the perpetuation, commercialisation and increased usage of the Internet removed many ways of telling if someone HAD earned the right to express their opinions on various subjects; now everyone is an expert and not a soul is ignorant.
Last time I checked in most countries the "right to expression and voicing opinions" are protected ammendments in the respective countries constitutions.
Hence YES, people do have the right to express them.
On a forum however, it actually is a different matter, since it is more of a dictatorship, IE they can "ban" you for having an opinion.
Still the opinion exist and the person can still express it, just not at the same location but have to use another venue.
The right to freedom of expression is protected in most countries in theory. However in practice, there are laws that define what exactly you are allowed to say about what. For example, in Germany the Right to Freedom of Expression is protected by constitutional law, but Holocaust Denial is illegal and can result in imprisonment along with other spoken crimes such as incitement to racial or ethnic hatred. The word of the law on such matters varies from country to country of course - and is VERY grey in most cases - but there is no country on this planet that truly practices the right to freedom of expression without afterwards restricting exactly what can be said under other laws.
In other words, the technicality that is The Right to Freedom of Expression is merely an idealogical hook thrown in to constitutional law the world over so that people actually believe democracy exists when - in reality - its existence is debatable :-)
In other words, I can easily argue that freedom of expression does not exist in any practical sense ;D Therefore I shall continue to insist that people EARN the right to expression of opinion.
