IE. you eat up marketing buzz words like a pig eats up slop.
IE you're a fanboy that froths at the mouth at every word or any stupid thing (ie countdown timer) a developer says
Oh good, for a moment there I thought you'd just resorted to making personal attacks.
So we're in agreement that they used marketing buzz words and other tried-and-tested hype-building techniques such as the countdown timer to hype this event.
It's fair to say that they did this to create a desired level of hype.
It is fair to say that this is likely to be successful amongst a large number of people; This is why such techniques are used, correct? Obviously such things don't work on you, what with you being so superior and all, but we're talking about the regular folk, right?
It's surely then reasonable to expect people's reactions to be on a similar level to that which they've been hyped up to? You know, rather than just expecting everybody to be as cynical as yourself?
I think that's a reasonable flow of logic, but by all means, just call me names some more if you want. I'm not interested in personal arguments with other forum members.

When your boss tells you to do somthing, you do it! I agree that the rest of the world should have been included, and I find it flat out odd that Canada, especially, wasn't included. When people say "oh they didn't have to put that on their website" well yes they did, typically the contest is completely designed and packaged before it's implemented, including all the marketing tools that go along with it.
Bioware more than likely knew this would happen, they knew that there would be repercussions, I mean why would you want to exclude anyone from the community? It's obvious where this came from, and my reason for really disliking where gaming is going (publishing comapnies). EA and Activision both have terrible reputations because all they look for is the bottom dollar, and not the best interest of the comsumer. Bioware is a company made of people who just want to make great games for gamers, by gamers.

Ok guys, let's get over this and just do something else. This thread doesn't bring attention, anymore, point was made, BioWare commited a PR suicide, we don't get any free stuff.
BioWare never really failed before with their games nor marketing so I'm hoping that it's not going to happen again. It's not that I really mind the contest is US only, I seriously mind all that friggin bs that was suposed to sound "pro fans" like "in apriciation of your support" and "to thank our community". I feel offended. End of storry.
Off to play ME2, I downloaded the alt apearence pack 3 days ago and havent checked it since... tho I probobly wouldn't buy it at all if it came out after the Failzaar news.
HEY!! You still have the best avatar!!

God you bunch of whiners, learn how to read before you spout off hate at Bioware. I am not saying it's "right" but you are blaming the development crew, and not the SPONSOR WHO GIVES AWAY THE STUFF AWAY!
"Sponsor
This Contest is sponsored by Electronic Arts Inc., 209 Redwood Shores Parkway, Redwood City, CA 94065. The Contest is governed by and is in accordance with the laws of the state of California in the United States of America."
Obviously reading isn't a strong point for some, becaues Bioware...A CANADIAN COMPANY would OBVIOUSLY want to alienate THEIR OWN FREAKING COUNTRY. Be mad at the publishers the source of money and control, they dictate how things go, and their subsidiaries just do as they are told. Because it is plain and obvious that Bioware is NOT to blame for this, but EA, so I suggest taking your ranting to their website (www.EA.com) and TELLING THEM!
Still BioWare should simply told us that this is US only! THAT is THEIR fault!
Once again, they do what they are told, thats how subsidiaries work. If EA tells them "put this on your website" then thats what they do. I don't agree with the deception, and I really dislike publishing comapanies because they go out of their way to ruin developers reputations (Activision did it to Infinity ward, and here we are with EA doin it to Bioware).
Unfortunately this is just how business goes, but intead of making your hate for Bioware here (which you have to know that they KNEW this would happen) take it to the people who told them to do it! This isn't their fault, why should we make them take the heat?
So you really believe that someone at EA said:
"Hey Bioware guys, it's like your 15th anniversary coming up, so we are going to force you to have a Bioware Bazaar Auction type thing. You WILL have to have a big countdown and advertise it as an 'epic community event', even though it is just for 48 states of the US." Evil laugh...
And Bioware replied: "But isn't that creating false hype and a massive screw you to our fans. I refuse to do this"
EA: "You WILL do this Bioware because we own your souls and if you don't we will fire you all and slaughter your first born" Cue Evil laugh.
OH PLEASE!

That's wholly unreasonable.
This is Bioware, nobody should be excited for anything.

I say these things because, we assume that Bioware can basically do whatever they want to, but they answer to EA because thats where the publishing money comes from, and for a lack of better words, thats who they work for.

Yes, but this is BioWare's website - this is where the mysterious countdown to an epic event was implemented. BioWare execs called it "epic" themselves in interviews - hyping it themselves. HOW can you possibly say that people should point the finger at EA?
Or do you think BioWare execs have all the authority of obedient lap dogs, and will always bark and roll over when told to by their EA masters? If that's the case, who cares about BioWare - they might as well just merge fully and become a part of the EA brand, if they currently have no say in anything they do.

I don't really see the point in ruining the event for the people who can participate, they're not to blame.

Let's say you're right. Then it is a good thing people are pissed off about it. If everyone just kept silent and accepted all of the Bioware/EA crap, then they don't even have something to point at for the big, bad bosses to say, "See what happened? We told you so!"
This said, I do think this is kinda epic, I've been here a while but only now feel the urge to post anything on the forums.
