Whoever came up with the "community event" countdown clearly miscalculated, since the majority of fans are not from the US.

You'll probably have to consider the density of Bioware owners within areas rather than fan-numbers between countries. In the end the US likely has more owners packed closely together than anywhere else and so having an event there just makes sense.

To be honest, I suspect most people aren't ticked off that Bioware is running a US competition. It's that it was hyped up, very dramatically, across several websites with a countdown, inviting all such readers to an Epic Community Event. The backlash isn't over the event, I feel - it's the marketing hype around it that leads people to feel they were misled.

Had there been a line on the Bioware site that said 'US Competition coming soon!' I don't think anyone would have batted an eyelid.

Any Canadian players remember this? "Canadian Xbox ME2 players - Win a trip for 2 to visit BioWare!" Here is the link.... http://social.biowar...9/index/1272400

Yes. Yes we do. It was also clearly labelled as a region specific event...being that it's called the "Canadian Xbox ME2 players". Also, there was not countdown. Also, they didn't use the term "Epic" when it was announced. And finally, they didn't address the entire "Community" when it was announced, as they did with this Bazaar.

Nice try though....

DUDE! Bioware is "Canadian" and the Contest is only for Americans???! What is This BS Bioware?!??

Correction. BioWare is owned by EA which is American so by extension BioWare is American. Sure the employees may be Canadian though that isn't true either as they are composed of people from all over the world but the BioWare trademark is now American property.

Correction once again. Bioware is a COMPANY owned by EA. It has not been completely eaten up by EA, yet. It is basicaly the samething as Future Shop and Best Buy, Future Shop is an asset of Best Buy, but it is still its own brand and works seperatly thus staying partialy canadian. Which brings me back to the point that Bioware is a canadian company which is under american EA's supervision and since they are the ones funding the contest and not Bioware, it is only for the americans.

Correction:  America isn't a country, the USA is however a country.

I'm not upset about not being able to participate, not at all. I wouldn't have participated had I been eligible.

You see, I don't care to peddle their propaganda through my "social networks". That is all this is, an ill-disguised marketing ploy.

What pisses me off is that it had a "big announcement" feel about it, what with the countdown and all that. Imagine if blizzard had started a big hype train with countdowns - only to reveal the 'recruit-a-friend' incentives. That's what this is.

To all those not part of the 48 states: I know the ignorance and incompetence of BioWare's marketing staff is hilarious, but try not to find it too insulting.

As a member of these 48 states, I can tell you I don't give a **** about being able to trade in "points" for a BioWare bumper sticker. This is not an "epic event" to feel envious of (although I guess any exclusion can be insulting). But, if I could trade spots with one of you Europeans, trust me, I would. Because what we're seeing here is ALL too American.

I'm seriously doubting having anything to do with Bioware after ME3, looking at this mess.

Whatever technicallity makes you feel better. For all intents and purposes BioWare has no say in any of this, EA can fire all of them, hire all new people and the company would still be BioWare....THAT is the truth. They essentially are an American brand for all intents and purposes.

They probably had a countdown because some marketing dimebar thought it would be amazing and all web 2.0 without actually looking at Community Management and understanding this would go up in flames.

I'm in Ireland, was quite excited about the announcement and I am actually pretty disappointed. I'm not angry but it's sad to see such a lame idea come from a company I genuinely want to do well. It's likely not the Community Managers fault guys so don't burn them.

You guys do realize that the event being a "community event" does not mean that the countries not included are not a part of the community? It did not say "Community Wide Event" it only means that people who aren't taking part of in the community cannot take part in the event, it doesn't mean that every community member can take part.

To repeat again, I do understand being upset that you can't participate, especially because that information wasn't provided right away, but that doesn't mean that EA/BioWare doesn't consider you a part of the community.

Liara lives in New York, so she's just as screwed as everyone else.  She just wanted to make her presence known.
