Oh my... um, to be eligible you must be at least 5'9", 29 years of age or older, live on Planetary Earth, provide adequate competition in video games, be literate, and be alright with yoga and neck-down alopecia? (If you "get" that last one you get +10 approval rating.)

This thread is getting ridiculous/amusing. <3

I was sooooo close, this is like the 4th epic fail for me today. First im european, now this. Whats next?

To be honest, I suspect most people aren't ticked off that Bioware is running a US competition. It's that it was hyped up, very dramatically, across several websites with a countdown, inviting all such readers to an Epic Community Event. The backlash isn't over the event, I feel - it's the marketing hype around it that leads people to feel they were misled.

Had there been a line on the Bioware site that said 'US Competition coming soon!' I don't think anyone would have batted an eyelid.

Oh, I know. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I can understand how many might see the execution of this event as a slap in the face. I was just adding my two cents to the ponderings of T1l and Haasth.

What really gets me here is how mad people are getting at the whole "community" part when really the whole thing itself is just a marketing gimmick thats attempting to turn registered BioWare game users into viral marketeers for EA.

I mean I'm eligible and I don't give a flying fluck about this. Its just some EA marketing shark's brilliant idea to turn mindless BW fans into adbots on various social networks, for EA products in exchange for a CHANCE at winning stuff we can already BUY in about 80% of cases.

Its basically just marketing, and anyone mad about not being included in it is...might as well tattoo "CONSUMER WH*RE" on their foreheads and be done with it.

This whole deal is stupid, to be angry about not being allowed to participate is like being angry that you weren't chosen at the mall to take part in a "survey" that pays you 15 bucks if you go to several various stores in the mall and buy the equivalent of about 25 dollars worth of product from the stores to "evaluate" for the survey.

Its shark marketing, its EA making BW look like the biggest marketing wh*re in the gaming industry and frankly I'm disgusted with it.

BioWare can stand on its own two feet on the quality of their products alone. This crap is just crap.

What you need signature wise is one that says "I USED TO BE PART OF THE COMMUNITY BUT THEN I GOT WISE TO EA'S MARKETING DIVISION AND
DECIDED TO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO ANYTHING BIOWARE DOES UNLESS IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH  A GAME."

Might be a bit big for a signature graphic.

Seriously people, get a grip, all you're missing out on here is the opportunity to be exploited and used by EA in a pilot marketing partnership between EA and several companies and BioWare is being used as the street corner pusher for the junk.

EDIT: Holy crap does this forum software have formatting issues.

DUDE! Bioware is "Canadian" and the Contest is only for Americans???! What is This BS Bioware?!??

Correction. BioWare is owned by EA which is American so by extension BioWare is American. Sure the employees may be Canadian though that isn't true either as they are composed of people from all over the world but the BioWare trademark is now American property.

Correction once again. Bioware is a COMPANY owned by EA. It has not been completely eaten up by EA, yet. It is basicaly the samething as Future Shop and Best Buy, Future Shop is an asset of Best Buy, but it is still its own brand and works seperatly thus staying partialy canadian. Which brings me back to the point that Bioware is a canadian company which is under american EA's supervision and since they are the ones funding the contest and not Bioware, it is only for the americans.

Whatever technicallity makes you feel better. For all intents and purposes BioWare has no say in any of this, EA can fire all of them, hire all new people and the company would still be BioWare....THAT is the truth. They essentially are an American brand for all intents and purposes.

Why so seriousss??

Everyone expected something big from bioware. Something for the WHOLE community, Who were waiting for news about the next installments of their favourite gaming franchises, or maybe some news about a great upcoming expansion pack for ME or DA.

Bioware starts a countdown clock. The community gets excited about it, starts spouting ideas and when the countdown is over gets stomped in the face by their favourite developer. Who forget that their fanbase was waiting for something big, something exciting. And though it is exciting for some, (lucky yanks) the majority of the world feels dissapointed about the BIG event. You could have announced, bioware, that this event was only going to effect the United States fanbase and not the REST of the fanbase worldwide

So bioware, This is my suggestion. Make it up to us, we the community who support you, who buy your games and expansions and who buys your dlc packs. Give us something to really get excited about and to love our favourite developer yet again. It is not too late to redeem yourself bioware, so give us something. for instance some fresh news we actually give a s*** about.

I still consider you guys from bioware as some of the greatest story tellers in the gaming industry and love every game you make. But this was uncalled for. And should be forgotten as soon as possible by a bigger announcement that overshadows this farce.

thank you and good night!

To all those not part of the 48 states: I know the ignorance and incompetence of BioWare's marketing staff is hilarious, but try not to find it too insulting.

As a member of these 48 states, I can tell you I don't give a **** about being able to trade in "points" for a BioWare bumper sticker. This is not an "epic event" to feel envious of (although I guess any exclusion can be insulting). But, if I could trade spots with one of you Europeans, trust me, I would. Because what we're seeing here is ALL too American.

Agreed.

This is the biggest PR fiasco I have ever seen for a company. I wonder how BioWare feels to officially know that they sold their souls to the devil with EA.

Alright.... fine fine, you win...... ill just cry in a corner, lol.
Im sad though that Bioware's name and reputation is pined on this contest when the ones to be blamed should be EA....

I can only speech for my sel but thats exactly the reason I'm pissed off. I would just have been annoyed if it had been announced from the start as a USA exclusive from the start.

You guys do realize that the event being a "community event" does not mean that the countries not included are not a part of the community? It did not say "Community Wide Event" it only means that people who aren't taking part of in the community cannot take part in the event, it doesn't mean that every community member can take part.

To repeat again, I do understand being upset that you can't participate, especially because that information wasn't provided right away, but that doesn't mean that EA/BioWare doesn't consider you a part of the community.

if they had replaced the word "epic" with "US exclusive" your excuse might have worked...

Ahhh! but you see, the Canada has yet to be as successful as America and so the rest of the world has yet to be painted red with envious hatred for Canada.  America is the great satan and so the fact that its a US contest? inflames the world... if it was a European contest? notsomuch.

It's so odd that Bioware, a Canadian company with Canadian roots (regardless of EA's buy-out), would neglect it's own people and cater solely to a select group of Americans.

For shame<_<

Canada weeps for its once proud game development company.:crying: Maybe Ubisoft-Montreal still loves us ....:?

No they are holding a contest that is to show their fan appreciation.  It says it right on their front page.  It is like when a girl or guy says they like you a lot, then they go date your best friend.  Doesn't mean your not special, they just don't like you in "that way".

I'm confused, so they only way to earn tokens is to have DA: O or ME2 registered or do the quesitonaire? And what about the challenge questions? How do I take those??

p.s. I'm sorry to all the people who have been excluded from the "Community". You're all still part of the community in my heart Posted Image

I sure want to know what happens now... do we get a response, if yes... will it be an honest one or just a quick sorry? Will this thread be locked in a couple of hours and everyone get banned temporarily? Or do they just try to sit quiet and wait until it's over?

Or a combination of these?

+1, I live in NY and I'm not angry at all. Bioware could've saved themselves alot of trouble by not putting up a countdown in the first place. Posted Image
