I think we'd be less miffed if Bioware explained why they're only making this open to part of the community. Even still, that won't change the fact that this was overhyped for no apparent reason (i.e. countdown visible to all community members, regardless of whether or not we'd be able to participate).

It is expensive to transport goods around the world. Then you have to get it through customs (I know from experience is the most frustrating thing in the world because I tried bringing a Gateway back from America into Australia) which can cost large amounts of money ($220.95 to get my laptop through customs, meanwhile already spending $1,500 on it) It's all about cost and the money they spend sending all these things around the world equals less money which could be spent on Dragon Age 2 or Mass Effect 3.
I personally prefer it they spent more money on Mass Effect 3 than on sending someone living in...Umm...Uzbekistan (sorry to all the Uzbekistani people I couldn't think of another country and I didn't mean to disrespect to any of you) a cap or t-shirt. But all of us should just take a step back and think about it.

No, it's sort of like price discrimination, which is legal. Instead of selling a product in different prices in different regions, they just refrain from selling that product at all in those regions. A stronger argument would probably be false advertising.Vellen wrote...
There must be some law's against advertising an event and then discriminating against certain people because they live in a different country.
You could argue it's equal to discrimination of sex, race and religion.
You can buy our products but you can't take part in an event because you are not X. This is discrimination.
You advertised a community event that is not open to everyone that is part of the community, this is false advertising.
If this was done by the a company that is based in teh UK you would be getting shafted by OFCOM.

Well, at least now we all know we should quit wasting our breaths with feedback, because only men and women in the grand ole' US of A (One nation under God tm) are real people.

um how could they not see this was going to ****** people off? it would of annoyed people but not brought the level of hate they are getting right now if they simple gave a disclaimer that the event is open to us residents only

Of course, of course. But they could have told us that it was only for the US from the beginning. People would have been disappointed, as usual, but we wouldn't be having a sh!tstorm of this magnitude.True Zarken wrote...

S/He fakes an "Epic community contest" countdown under the guise of the reapers, and the galaxy is so pissed off at the reapers when it turns out to be a load of crap that excludes them, they unite against the reapers.
Even the batarians join in.

This is not what Bioware are about, surely someone could have a word with EA and ask them to divert a coupla thousand bucks to cover shipping costs.
The goodwill it would engender with your fans would more than make up for the outlay.
All in all, its a pretty poor show. I don't care if it was Biowares decision or not.
In fact, most non US customers (if they won something) would probably be willing to pay the postage themselves anyway, so this is just a complete non issue.
I probably wouldn't have partaken anyway because I have already bought all of the gear I want from the store, but for the people who don't have the option of entering, I feel your pain.

Well, If I recall correctly, Florida and NY might have some State Controlled Lottery. You know, Laws and acts emanating from those might **** up a lot of contests and some parts might be illegal in some new administrative acts from those State Lotteries. Wanting to avoid a fine for a contest, they preferred to forbid it in those 2 States.intersect wrote...

All those people that are from Florida and NY that are complaining, blame your local State Law. Those that are not from the US, Blame Bioware...
Learn how to whine.
I'd like to unsderstand what state law this violates, seeing as I've participated in many contests exactly like this, namely, the mountain dew warcraft contest (same token thingies, etc)
They wouldn't have screwed up those 2 States for arbitrary reasons.
As for the rest of the World, especially Canada... now.... that's just bloody lazy on their part.
