If you want these people to get over it then that's fine, but don't say BioWare didn't screw us over with false adverising and that they are restricting it to the U.S. for purely legal resons cause it' ain't true.

Legal reasons don't mean that they are legally restricted. It means that they weighed the options and costs of fulfilling all the legal requirements for making the contest multi-national and decided it wasn't worth it.

They didn't say "we only like America (minus New York and Florida)" to draw the contest lines. They said "we don't want to go through the trouble/pay the extra money to make this contest cross borders."

but they said "epic community event" and not "epic community event for us (-ny/fl) residents because we weighed legal issues costs"

Ya this was a huge let down considering the hype and build up. You can see EA's skidmark all over this.

I'm not participating anyway. Got more important things to do.

*sighs* No, because the Warden's Quest event was held in London, all they had to worry about was finding people who could come over to London and were fans. So, the big deal there was a valid passport.

Again, Cat, what about the halloween sweepstakes, or the one with thing where they gave things away? Also during WQ people who tuned in could win stuff and I think that was all over the world as well. Just stop defending them.

Edit: Seeing the above post I agree that some poeple are taking this too far.

Mistress, I'm not defending them, actually. I don't think they handled it well. What I'm stating is that they didn't exclude anyone by choice. A straight giveaway works very differently than one with a points system and an auction. I'm sure that ended up hitting walls they may not have expected.

And to those saying they should just have canceled the contest entirely, as opposed to marketing it properly. Get over it, really. There have been Canadian only, US only, and European only contests before and people didn't get their panties in a bunch about it. This was marketed VERY badly, and there in lies the blame. There isn't anything wrong with the event itself.

This is all too funny. Im not actually bothered about the bazaar or the community thing. I know we're not being excluded but the whole event was still a complete fail. And this is too much fun to miss out on so... I AM Krogan!

You'd think they would have learned from Cryptic/Atarii's bad PR from something similar.

I wish people would stop letting Bioware off the hook all the time by blaming EA. I love Bioware's games too but come on...they have some say over their own marketing.

The bioware apology will be up for download for only 20 dollars (US @ post WW2 exchange rates).

That made me proper laugh out loud there.

We suffered through the countdown for nothing, this comment though, made it worthwhile.

Soon we'll be split up in different forums, one for each continent. Then all bioware games will be made in a special extra bad version for all non-americans, followed by non-americans frequently being banned just for being non-american. We'll called it BIOPARTHEID!

While this does feel like one huge rick roll, I can't say I'm angry or even disappointed in BioWare.
Sure I had that "aw shucks" moment when I realised that I couldn't participate, but really, it's just a promo guys.
Instead of flaming EA and BioWare over the limitations of the event, why don't you use your connection to this community to give constructive feedback? You get taken a lot more seriously when you don't just whine about how unfair life is.

As for the Bazaar itself I think it is an awesome idea, and what a lot of you seem to be forgetting is that this is being done out of appreciation to a community. You're also forgetting BioWare is not obliged to give you something every time they reach a milestone.
If you're excluded from this competition then this is already the case for you, but please friends, take it on the chin and move on.

There are two points I would like make, not to be spiteful, but to help BioWare better connect with it's community.
~ The first is that it is a monolithic faux pas to build up the expectations of a global community without stating beforehand what parts of the community will be excluded from the benefit.
This does damage to the credibility of your company, and generally leads to bucket loads of pessimistic resentment, vis-à-vis this thread.
You may have kept the details vague in order to prevent the community from guessing what the Event was, but the benefit of that obscureness is outweighed by the consequences of the end result.
It does you more good to give a little info away in a case like this than it does to keep it a secret.
~ The BioWare community is a global one. We are all here because we love your games, which take the form of digital content. This is the reason we are a global community, because our use of your products isn't limited to our locations. It makes sense therefore for you to reward your customers based on the same medium that made BioWare a profitable company.
With your recent investment in the DLC medium, and it's subsequent popularity and success, I find it odd that you did not offer exclusive digital content for your most profitable games instead of the Bazaar which chose a physical medium of reward.
I doubt that an auction based on unique in game items would have been ill received, and the evidence of that lies in the popularity of your DLC properties.
This is an international community of gamers, the digital medium is the only one that can most easily satisfy your community. So if you'd like to reward this community for it's loyalty then give it what is most relevant to it.

Again, I'd just like to say that I'm not bitter about any of this, but just wanted to offer some clear advice. I'm a big fan of BioWare and will continue to buy almost anything your company puts out, simply because it's awesome stuff!
Congratulations on reaching this 15 year anniversary milestone BioWare.
I look forward to celebrating the big 20.:wizard:
