Because comparing a fan convention to a site contest is totally the same thing.

BioWare promises an epic community event for a week. I'm just saying what a REAL epic community event is. A ****ty contest that excludes most of the community is NOT an epic community event.

Um, but they even said it was nothing more than a site event. Plus, I don't think you need to assume BioWare has no idea what they are doing.

This is not a community event. This is still just a US-only event. Whichever way you look at it, it's still a huge amount of failure. It didn't need a countdown page. And if they absolutely wanted one, they could have at least used code on the website to determine where the visitors IP were from. Because you know, it can be done. That way, incoming IPs from outside the eligible zone would have been told in advance they were not eligible.

That way we wouldn't all have waited and speculated for the last week, only to get ... this ...

What I don't get it is how an auction was ever thought to be an "Epic Community Moment". Exclusion of fanbase aside I don't see how putting a 7 day timer on an auction was going to make anyone happy.
