Gotta admit, I'm disappointed as well. More bewildered though. BioWare's fan base is world wide, and they're a Canadian company. Yet everyone but the US are excluded (and even a couple of states can't play). More than likely it has to do with regulations, but it's still disappointing. Ah well, I guess I can count my tokens...

you win my prize

I'm not from BioWare.

Beyond me how people can't differentiate between a forum moderator and BioWare employee. Oh well /shrug.

I completely agree with you Eurypterid, as mentioned in my own reply here on this thread. Just hope for some explanation as to why we're left out.

Would be nice.

Wow.

First off I just want to say that folks need to realize that due to certain 'lotto' laws or other such regulation, some states/countries/etc are barred from certain competitions/contests. It has nothing to do with the company hosting the contest - usually the legal fees to try and bypass those regulations are much higher than would be worth. Secondly - take the hate off from BioWare will ya? It may be on their site but it is sponsored/created by EA and the participating companies are EA - it isn't about hate, its about limitations in the legal system(s) involved.

Now, before you go all 'fanboy'/'marketing drone' on me let me say this: I am truly disappointed in this 'event'. This is the type of thing that would be good as a side contest, not as something that was geared (via their own countdown clock) at the entire BioWare Community - which spans the globe. This is absolutely NOT the way to celebrate 15 years of BioWare, nor of celebrating anything to do with the community that has such a strong Love/Hate relationship with these masters of RPG's.

BioWare - you need to go and talk to the EA marketing folks, and EA... you need to listen. How about having a true community 'event'? How about coming through with what your countdown clock specified? Whether it be a live chat with random free DLC codes, special DLC items given away to all community members (with registered games of course), etc. Not this.

Just look at this thread - there is alot of misguided hatred, yes, but there is a legitimate sense of... well... wrongness. Your community is global - any epic events should be global.

If you want to have contests that may be limited by trade/gambling/etc regulations then thats all fine and dandy - just make sure there is a disclaimer and don't advertise it as something for everyone.

This has to be the most disappointing thing I have seen come out of the EA/BioWare mixup in.. ever. That is saying alot too for me, I am one of those who was truly irritated when learning that so much of DA:O had absolutely no meaning in Awakening... I got over that just fine with time - this... this is just bad.

Word of Mouth == King. Your public persona is very important when it comes to attracting new folks to become loyal fans.

I too want to express my disappointment in this marketing event. If legal restrictions result in a very restricted 'community,' why bother with the event when a very large portion of your customers and fan base must be excluded. A great example of how a company can garner poor public relations.

Exactly what I was thinking. I can understand the legal restrictions and stuff but calling this Epic? The only thing EPIC about it is FAIL!

And while @biofeed is having fun on Twitter with the US residents there... (going to block those frakkers!)

We, the rest of the world, have fun with these!

For future reference, incase anyone from Bioware/EA actually reads any of our responses....

EPIC COMMUNITY EVENT would be something like:

5 lucky winners get to fly to the Bio-ware headquarters, stay at a 5 star hotel, meet the top people on their favourite game and win a replica N7 Armour to take home. (or DAO Armour somthin)

50 winners, receive a limited numbered edition Gold ME/ME2/DAO game disk, (made of actual gold like you know!) in special presentation case

500 winners win, N7 or dragon age goodies

Anything better than what was announced

I mean how much profit has been made from ME2 alone and you tell me you can't make a full size N7 suit and give it away as a prize to someone in the "community"

EPIC FAIL

Or a BioCon.
When someone said Epic Community Event, my mind immediatly went there.

Not that I'd like to see one, or would ever be likely to attend. But I could at least see how they themselves would've considered it epic.

This is just a marketing scam, just like most of Bioware's stuff for the past few years.

A BioCon would have been pretty nifty, I have to admit.

I got to figure this is not the reaction Bioware was hoping for. Just as this is not the announcement we were hoping for.

I don't think Bioware was involved at all, to be honest. I think it's all Electronic Arts, doing whatever the hell they want with the Bioware name.

How does it feel, Bioware? Are you proud? How does it feel, to be violated, raped, tied down and abused? You're enjoying this, aren't you, you dirty, dirty harlot? Yes you are.

They surely must have thought this might have been a problem when they were putting the whole auction thingy together.

Its pretty unfair on non-US customers, bordering on insulting.

Awakening getting bad press, now this, as others have said, getting a tad worried at the direction bioware is going, if they trying to be like 90% of the video game industry, and using misleading tactics, doing a good job at it at the minute.

Not to interrupt the rants (=P), but does anyone know how they give you the points? There's no real link between my twitter I made and this Bioware account. How will they know?

I live in Florida and was disappointed to find out I can't participate because I do think it's a really cool idea. But it's not Bioware's fault. It the laws of FL and NY. We do sweepstakes at work and these two states require bonds and other things that make it more tricky to do contests and promotions to their residents. No, it's not impossible to do it. But they might have wanted to keep the costs to a minimum. Anyway, you guys all have fun and win some cool stuff. Post what you win for those of us playing vicariously:)

I love the fact that even though I love bioware and support them by buying their great products, i cannot even compete in this just because I happen to live in one of the two states where apparently an online fake auction is somehow voided.

Hahaha, nice anti-community banner! :P

Is there any chance that the rest of the world can be ridden of the BioWare Bazaar banner?
Otherwise I will have to resort to using an ad-blocker or something that serves the same purpose.

I see no point in flaunting it in front of the people that cannot participate. <_<
