Has anyone else noticed that all Bioware is doing atm is locking any thread related to this one (fair enough) and not addressing the issue itself.... Just see a lot of copy/paste/close topic, going on.

This is a pretty standard bioware tactic.  Ignore the issue and limit discussion of it amongst others.

The level of pessimism from people is ludicrous. They're closing other topics on this matter due to one fact; If they didn't it'd get way out of hand with flame, and about 10.000 posts regarding the very same thing.

And, Sloth of Doom:
The way you're saying it, sounds like you've been BioWare member (played their games for years), and, oh so you hate it, yet you play their games and are still here to this day.. So their 'tactics' works game-wise, and as many (included myself) have mentioned before, this isn't BioWare's fault.

1) Playing thier games does not mean supporting everything they do.  I will defend them when I think they are right, and call them out if I think they are wrong.

2)  The way they are handling this is exactly how they handled the RTO issues (which I got a lot of flak about for supporting thier side of things).  It has been a standard response to any issue on these sites, i didn't say if it were good or bad so don't put your idiotic words into my mouth.

3) This is Bioware's fault...or are there aliens controlling the website?  Maybe zombies?  Zombie aliens?     wait I know...it was the North Koreans.

I just dont think this was even worth a countdown. Not that i can take part anyway. But total letdown. Sorry. It's like this with most game companies, always about USA never anywhere else. It gets rather frustrating.

*edit: Oh, and for haven's sakes people, they said it's a community event, meaning it is not available to those who don't take part in the community, not that it was a Community Wide Event, so if your country isn't included, that does NOT mean you aren't considered a part of the community. That's more than a bit of an overreaction.

Is it?
This is very frustrating for me Cat.
Ths was billed as an Epic Community event.
This led me to believe it was something I could enjpy and take part in because I am part of the BioWare Community.
To find out that their Community was restricted to 48 states  after 15 years of supporting BioWare is IMHO very disappointing.

There was no warning, no explanation, no disclaimer, no coming soon for the rest of our fans.
It has been handled very poorly by BioWare and this reaction from the fans outside of the US is the result.

*huggles Alo* I understand being upset, hon. And I certainly didn't say that it was smart or even decent marketing of it. (I had thought it was going to be a new game announcement when it was just the countdown, personally.) I totally agree that a ball was dropped here, but I also don't think they excluded anyone purposefully, I'm certain it was due to law structures and the weird points system/auction format of the event.

My guess is someone thought this up, thought it was a great idea, so did others, and no one realized that the weird way it worked would end up excluding the majority of the world until it was too late. :(

Sorry for keeping the quote pyramid alive, and for the rudeness this might bring.

But are you really that daft?
Of course playing their games are supporting what they do, unless you download cracked versions? Buying their games is the very essence of supporting their work.

The way they are handling it? Yes, I agree, I would really much want a proper reason, an official statement as to why we're left out in the cold. But it wasn't BioWare's decision, it's the sponsors/EA and the laws of trading they have to follow. And as someone have already brought up, going around those dead-ends, without doing anything illegal would probably cost too much and/or take too long/too much efort than what EA / sponsors are prepared to offer.

BioWare themselves, are doing an awesome job in my opinion. As I said ,regarding closing topics I agree on, seeing tens, hundreds of posts regarding the same subject is just folly. Not answering here, I have no answer for, as I said, I really want an official response myself.

Well they included most of one country and let down all those hundreds of countries on earth that are not US ;)
From my point of view it shows like a small event for one country... thats nothing that should get a huge countdown advert talking of some "epic" stuff...

I am very certain that the countries and states not included are due to the laws those countries/states hold regarding contests. The points and auction system are unusual, so it's very possible that they got it all set up and then found out that most place's laws made their participation in the event a no go.

So, a week ago, when they put the countdown up, and announced it as an epic community event, and made all the hype...  you're saying they hadn't checked the rules about running the competition internationally?  poppycock.

As I said, they could have avoided all of this backlash if they'd just announced it as 'US-only'.

You'd be amazed, it'd be great to be able to say that stuff like this is always organized way ahead of time and that everything is totally ironed out by the time things go public, but the honest truth is that most events have all kinds of things of various importances that end up not getting totally taken care of until the last minute no matter who is running it.

I'm all for a cool way to get Bioware swag but I must admit I'm a bit disappointed with the whole countdown thing. I would save a marketing tool like that for something truly epic (e.g. dragon age 2). I worked for a company involved in web community activism, and I recommend BW analyze how much value their marketing folks are adding to their brand.

I have never argued that calling this epic was a good idea. I'm in the US and I don't even think it's epic, I wouldn't have thought it was epic even if it did include the whole entire world. (I have begun to think they just like to tack epic onto everything they do these days, it must be marketings new favourite buzzword.) --That said, what I WAS saying was that a country not being able to participate does not mean that EA/BioWare doesn't consider them a part of their fan community.

Also, that I am fairly certain it's the laws of these countries that are the reason they aren't participating.

If you're going to make for scandinavian countries, make one for Norway, Sweden and Denmark, we're not just one big country, least of all with the flag you used. Tsk.

This would have been very fun if they included us all... oh, well I still love your games and the company itself... but I hated the countdown/event. I hope they don't do this next time they announce something "EPIC"

It's much more likely that they expected the backlash, and proceeded with the contest in spite of it, thinking that they'll get some awesome publicity. And with all this attention in the first few hours, they were right.
