Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that this was actually about you. See, I can participate. And so I thought this was all about me. But you know, seeing as how that logic is at all any different from yours, I'm just gonna go with it anyway. This is all about me, so the contest is awesome.Varenus Luckmann wrote...
I am terribly sorry. I am unable to see what is so awesome about this contest, seeing how I cannot participate.
So no, the contest is far from "awesome".

Bioware has spoken.
Obey!
I'm gonna with: Uhm, what? No?

Well, ok fussyboots. An Epic-US-(Excluding New York and Florida)-Community-Event.the_one_54321 wrote...
Because it's not an Epic US-community event. New York and Florida are excluded too.davidk1991 wrote...
Why announce it as an epic community event, and not an epic US-community event then? I don't think anyone's suggesting Bioware has some sort of evil plan to exclude everyone else, just why the hush hush combined with the hype?
Almost as stupid as announcing an epic community event and only letting SOME citizens of the US to take part, and nobody else.
Call me naïve, but I hoped Bioware was a company that cared more about its fanbase than catchy slogans and viral marketing

I would have agreed with you but, IT'S NOT EVEN US-ONLY!! Two US states are excluded from the contest as well.Delerius_Jedi wrote...
Incredibly disappointed in how this event has been handled. The US only caveat should have been posted up front. I have to say I'm disappointed in how BioWare are treating their international audience. First the Dr Pepper DLC fiasco, now this.
Very disappointing, BioWare/EA.
EPIC 5O UNITED STATES EXCEPT NEW YORK AND FLORIDA COMMUNITY EVENT!! sound really stupid.

What sorta annoys me is the fact that you seem to seperate between Bioware and EA, when there's really no difference. Bioware is just a brand name owned by Electronic Arts.Smaaen90 wrote...

Pfah. The flag of our great and unified state will never be invalid.Smaaen90 wrote...
I do recognize it, but it's invalid in present time.. Not that I really do care that much, I still see myself as a BioWare community member, just not one that EA/Sponsors will allow to participate in the competition.
That said, it's not so much what you yourself consider yourself, but what Bioware considers you. If this was an "epic community event" for the people of the community, what does that make you? Or me? Or the vast majority of this blue spaceball?
Not community members, that's for sure.
The fact that we can still talk and inter-act in the community section of the BioWare forums' makes us all technically community members. I get your frustration, I do. But again, and hopefully last time (doubt it), it wasn't BioWare's decision to leave everyone else (including New York and Florida) out of it.
All we can actually do, and hope for, is a proper and official explanation as to why, cause at the moment, it's all just hype and guess work.
As far as who took the decision not to make the contest international, "Bioware" and "Electronic Arts" are completely interchangable.
To avoid confusion from this point onward, I recommend we simply refer to it as "Electronic Bioware", "EBA" or "ElectroBio". Or maybe "BioArts"?

Am I the only one that can see this for what it is? A giant red herring. And we fell for it. If we're upset about some gimmicky, worthless contest that we cannot participate in anyway, we're completely forgetting about the unplayable state of the game(s) (moreso Dragon Age than Mass Effect 2, unless the latest DLC broke something I'm not aware of).
Unplayable? That would indicate that it's "unplayable", which it's not, cause I'm still playing Origins and Awakening, with no problems at all. Enjoying all of it in fact =)

So, you're saying they shouldn't hold any kind of contest at all unless they can and will include everyone? Forgive me if I don't share your opinion.davidk1991 wrote...

Nope, just let us know that it's US (minus two states) only, before you put up week-long countdowns and hype it as 'cool' in discussion threads.

Only problem with your logic there mate, is the fact that the BioWare staff are seperate from the douchebags working at EA, under their name. BioWare is a 'independent' group of people, the fact that the named is owned by EA, does not mean that the brains in BioWare are in anyway related to EA.. If we look away from the paycheck that is (a)

Which was somewhat my point. The very nature of "awesome" is subjective, therefore you are capable of percieving it as awesome.the_one_54321 wrote...

I, on the other hand, is unable to percieve the contest at all, hence unable to consider it "awesome". I can only percieve the circumstances around the contest and make a value judgement based on that.
And that judgement is "teh suck".
Now suck it, Jimbob.

Cat honey, seriously, I'm not inclined to belive that there isn't a single country out there with a respectable fan-base that doesn't have legal obstacles. Clearly there might be a few, but out a 170something countries in the world, only 1 is eligable and not even all of it? They've had woldwide give-aways before (DAO prelaunch hype anyone?) this has nothing to do with legal issues.Cat Lance wrote...
It's going to be your countries own laws regarding such competitions as this that exclude it, not some jerk sitting at a desk in EA/BioWare who decided they only like 48 of the 50 states of the USA
Somebody should also start a "Missing the point" group.Rulian wrote...
So go start a Bioware non-member group
already.

Uhm, this is EA ... the person will end up getting a promotion, raise, new sports car, etc.
Oh, sorry. I forgot we were talking about EA here. I apologize.

But that would have looked really stupid up there. Look, I feel for you guys. I really do. And I'd rather all my friends around here from around the world could play too, because I don't actually expect to win a lot of stuff and the game would be way more fun with them. Also, I don't necessarily think that they advertised this the best way they could have. But give them a little credit for doing something really cool for a whole lot of their fans.davidk1991 wrote...

Ok dude you keep saying it isn't "US only" so I am going to assume english is not your native language.
See, ONLY citizens of the US can particispate, making this a "US Only" contest. The fact that not all people in the US can participate does not change the fact that the only people that CAN particiapte are US citizens.
To use another example, I can say that I eat only vegetables, but I don't eat carrots because I am allergic. The fact that I don't eat carrots wouldn't stop me from eating only vegetables.
Describing this as a "US Only" event is accurate.
