Hey, I'm just some random American that doesn't care either way.

Insult me please!

Well see, that's part of the problem -- the fact that so many Americans don't care either way...

Frankly, I don't care for the prizes offered -- I already have the books, a great computer, and all that I need. It's a question of principle. You don't slap in the face those who have supported and encouraged you for years -- it's just bad manners and shows a severe lack of respect. That's why so many people feel insulted by this event. That's not so hard to understand, is it?

So, I have to take an extreme opinion that I don't believe in just so I can get lumped into "don't get insulted because of my birth country" crowd?
No thanks. I'm not going to participate in the whole thing, but I really don't feel the need to get all Mohandas Ghandi with the rest of you. It's just not that big of a deal to me.
Perhaps you should be focusing on the perpatrators of your percieved injustice, instead of railroading everyone who doesn't feel the same way you do.

Railroading? Perish the thought. No one is forcing you to take a stand with the rest of us.
In fact, you don't need to care at all.

Don't you agree?

All future promotional contests shouldn't happen because certain people can't be involved due to legal restrictions?

I'll be sure to pass that memo to nearly every major company out there.

There...

For the 10000th time the issue isnt the contest, the issue is the false advertising before the contest, implying that it was to be community wide.  And THAT was the fault of Bioware.

Pay attention.

Yep... and the fact that we were all invited to some EPIC event, spent 6 days on a queue for admittance and what? what? The event is far from Epic and we had the door shut right in our faces!

At 0days:00hours:00mins:00secs ... it did not start... unless the Epic Event was the Server Crash... hmmm... come to think of it... it was Epic... FAIL!

Missing the point you are. They should clearly do contests just be damn sure to be clear beforhand that only a select group of the community can enter - not a massive timer that was up for a week to let people know they where to be excluded.

You do realize that in the post she was responding to I noted that for future events like this they should do away with the counter and just announce the rules and restrictions right away?

I'm not being forced, but apparently, "not caring" is part of the problem, and I should put that spiffy banner in my signature because that person's quote is so darn inspiring.

Seems like it would be in my best interest to care, lest I don't want to be trampled by the Million BioWare Community Member March.

Excuse me but didn't the Canadians get that one event where winners fly to the Bioware studios and get a crapton of cash?
Yahknow the one the U.S. people couldn't enter.

PAYBACK HAHAH!
Didn't I warn all of you that "Community Events" are never ever ever ever ever ever epic. Did anybody listen? Nope. Posted Image

But in all seriousness, this was horribly mismanaged by BW and EA. I feel for you guys in the rest of the world. Thank you, fans indeed. Posted Image

I think the general rage isn't from the fact that their is actual exclusion, rather more related to the fact BioWare hyped this thing sky high and essentialy they did this to thank their fans for 15 years, and as a gesture of gratitude they decided to do something that excluded a majority of their community. And I have to agree, this was a pitifully stupid move on  BioWare's part, they had TONS of other things they could have done (hell they could have done this if they wanted to, contrary to what many seem to think civil and corporate law aren't all that different amongst Western nations so if they worked with it a bit they could have encompassed a much larger auidence. Drop the damn sponsers if that was the thing, cough of the $60k, their freaking toilet paper budget is bigger than that), but instead they went this route and considering this is supposed to be a "Thank You" of sorts it does seem like a bit of a nut ******.

Of course the whole idea on pretty much whoring yourself and your time to collect these tokens and the overall design of this event really put me off so really not like anyone is missing much.

A handy summary of why people are annoyed:

US only competition = No Problem. Happens all the time.

US only competition hyped as community event on international community with countdown timer = FAIL.

Like I said in the reply to rage, I commented that using the counter to introduce this type of event clearly didn't work and they should be more mindful in the future by just flat out announcing the restrictions.

Of course the whole idea on pretty much whoring yourself and your time to collect these tokens and the overall design of this event really put me off so really not like anyone is missing much.

It takes a few minutes to write a response on twitter to their questions and getting the 50 link clicks for the 500 points today took me less than 20 minutes. The whole contest is pretty easy consdering what they are offering.
If you really think it is a waste of time or just whoring yourself out on social sites, then more swagg for me.

Just had to say I'm impressed with the speed of the spread of the "community" banners. Also very funny. If only marketing was as awesome as outrage.

It's either a fabricated lie, to bring us down before lifting us up. (Not good odds)
They're too shell shocked by the reaction in the forums to do anything. (Slim chance)
They're not too worried about it, pretty content that it will cool in a week and everyone outside the 'community' would have forgotten about it. (Safe bet)

This.
Considering they did the same exact thing with the numerous rages over Awakening.

But will we forget? Stop being irritated and disapointed maybe but surely not forget - the banners will help with that part.

If what you say is true -- and I have no reason to doubt your word --, then it was wrong. And, had I seen any post reffering to it, I would have supported you.

That being said, this event was announced as being for the BioWare community."

Community: the feeling that you belong to a group and that this is a good thing.
© Macmillan Publishers Ltd.

Problem is, many people, who awaited this event, don't feel good anymore.

That's like the announcement that, with "Awakening", Dragon Age has just gotten better... Though Awakening was not horrible, it was not better than DA:O, and there's just so much false publicity a "community" can take before the trust starts dwindling. And it seems, these days, that they'd say anything to make a buck.

BioWare had a good thing going: great games, great reputation. And I (and allow me to point out here that I have many legal copies of every game ever produced by BioWare in my house) honestly feel sad at seeing that both are beginning to decline.

So it's not about who has what, it's about what the hell is going on at BioWare? Do they have nothing to say about what EA games decides? If that is so, my apologies to those working at BioWare for anything harsh I may have ever written about them -- and if not, then by all that is good and holy, wake up, people! Posted Image

I'm not outraged. Just annoyed. A 10 second edit of my signature hardly equates to storming the Bioware offices...
