The silence from Bioware/EA is deafening. I have seen Capons with bigger 'nads.

They remain silent while they discuss what they do - it is understandable. I do hope they hurry and reach a decision soon, though.

Well, this is pretty crap.
Not that I'm going to turn into an angry internet man about the whole thing,  I'm sure there are reasons why the contest can only be held in NA, but advertising this as a community event is a joke.

The Bioware community manager must be having a good day.

Frankly, I don't care for the prizes offered -- I already have the books, a great computer, and all that I need. It's a question of principle. You don't slap in the face those who have supported and encouraged you for years -- it's just bad manners and shows a severe lack of respect. That's why so many people feel insulted by this event. That's not so hard to understand, is it?

Laws and restrictions make extending the contest globally impractical. This is why promo contests for companies based in the US (EA) also tend to exclude Florida and New York. For future events they probably will want to announce it and the rules right away instead of building it up through a counter, but it isn't them purposely forgetting portions of their playerbase.

So in your opinion only 48 states in the whole world is eligible for these type of contests?? Sorry but if EA can have offices around the world they can offer competitions to us as well. Sure it might be more difficult but hardly impossible. The fact that we were mislied is the main issue though

It's unfortunate but true. Bioware's reputation seems to be on the line, however, we hear nothing but silence. An apology would go far, but that's not EA's style. Their PR department has a bad reputation, and apparently with just cause.

Don't expect me to wish Bioware a happy birthday. I feel more like grieving for a dear departed.

I fear the worst. I had a bad feeling right from the get-go when it was announced that Bioware would join up with EA. The bad feeling never lessened, on the contrary, it kept rising in leaps and bounds. Poor quality merchandise, customer milking, misleading statements, unclear announcments, no connection to their fanbase - yes, that is the exact behavior that had me stay away from EA labels until DA:O. If anyone other than Bioware had developed DA:O, I still would not own any EA labels.

I decided to trust Bioware when I purchased DA:O, but now I don't trust them anymore. Anything they put out/announce/whatever will be treated with caution, research, and a wait-and-see attitude.

Ah, well. I won't hold my breath for any kind of statement, let alone an apology to the majority of their custormers. Silent is the night.

Would you feel better if I compared the fan base to the abusive husband? Because it could go either way, really, with all the crap we throw their way. They do their best to please us and it's never good enough.

I apologize that I offended you, but it takes things like that to make people really put things into perspective about what's important. No, abuse isn't funny and comparing spousal abuse to a developer/consumer relationship is obsurd. There are some people reacting to it about the same way though. There are better things to worry about in this world than some stupid auction.

Only recently, do BioWare devs only seem to argue with rude posters, but before they really engaged with their fanbase. They joked around and we had enormous fun being teased with little hints about things in their games pre-release. I mean, they still do... well, I hope they will after this. Even these two lovely devs who regularly joined in on discussions in a group I am in have disappeared. I am thinking they have all been told to zip their mouths and don't comment.

This is what typically happens to developers owned and controlled by EA. I'm sure it's just as frustrating for BioWare as it is for the community as a whole. The reputation they have spent the better of a decade meticiously building up is effectively being destroyed here and all for one of EA's marketing shams.

See, I don't have much knowledge about EA.

Wow. They sound like they suck. I can imagine BW are upset about it. At the end of the day, I know they do love their fans.

Argh, it's so frustrating! EA! ****** off!

If that's what the sponsors require, then yes, only 48 states are eligible,

perspective....are you seriously for real...or a juvenile teenager?

Tell anyone who has been in a relationship like that, that your just 'putting it into perspective' and likening them to Bioware....see what kind of a response you get back.

What Bioware do and are doing under EA is out of order, to to liken them to an abusibe relationship is just well...frankly pathetic and idiotic.

Please do not apologise for offending me, apologise to the millions of people you just offended....and for the idiocy of your post. I need no apology :)

EDIT:

Im leaving what Iw rote up, but it may have come accross as a little harsh. So apologies....but really..think before you post eh?

@ Sabriana. I know what you mean. As little as a few months ago I was defending EA, because they seemed to be taking customers seriously. They even came out and said they were going to try harder to win back customers respect and trust. So I defended them in numerous forums across the net. A few months came and went, and all seemed well. DRM was good for DA:O and ME2. Download content flowed and it looked good.

Then one of my all time favourite franchises (C&C) got it's final game...well, let's just say the defense I'd made rung hollow. It was probably planned that way 18 months ago, and it was too late to change I told myself. First slip up to affect me personally, so I could let it slide.

Then the countdown. It's still not clear if it this was BioWare or EA's doing, but it certainly reeks of EA's marketing. Advertising a secret epic community event is great, unleashing it with the first sentence "reward for dedicated fans", awesome. Hiding in the rules only US citizens can enter is insulting and derogatory. IT IS segregation of members of society to call a select group the 'fans' and the 'community' and completely remove acknowledgement of the LARGER fan base across the globe. The fact that no-one has come out and said ANYTHING, either EA or BioWare and increasingly looks like no-one will, is not good. Very much EA (We don't like our customers) of old. The BioWare 'community' is massive, established, and active. If EA doesn't do something about this, it will be a scar on their name that won't be forgotten.

Hi all

Dont think i have posted before but i thought i would get something off of my chest.

I have been a long time Bioware fan, owning every game they have made ecept MDK.

I didnt like the direction they took with Mass Effect 2 and then when Return to Ostagar and Awakaning came out, both with less quality than i have come to expect from Bioware i begun to think my loyalty was beginning to be misplaced.

Then this stupid auction appeared.

I think its a little harsh that most people cant participate but i dont blame them for that. Its very possible and probable that its not their fault. But their marketing was far too much. A count down to all of us was unfair and a countdown at all was ludicrous.

In my opinion Bioware has gone the way of so many other decent developers. They are set to purely earn money by gimics, fancy graphics, short games that lack gameplay and false advertising.

I think now is the time to buy Bioware games ONLY when they hit the bargain bucket.

To finish my post i would also like to say, though i dont directly blame them for anything i have mentioned in this post, that i cannot stand EA!

Bioware is like an abusive husband.

They're not the same person that we married out of High School. No longer full of dreams and hope for the future. They've become hateful and bitter, little by little showing us the dark side of themselves that they had kept hidden. One day it finally becomes too much and they take their anger out on us. They try to justify it in their minds, thinking about what could have been if we hadn't been in there to hold them back.

Every time they hit us we say "No more! I won't let you do this to me." and leave for a week to stay at our mothers. Then they realize they can't pay the bills without us, and try to win us back with sweet talk and presents. They promise us it'll never happen again, and we buy it. We run back to their arms in hopes that we'll have our loving high school quarterback return. Things seem to be getting better, but soon the dark side comes back. They hit us again. We leave. "Never again!" we say.

A few more months go by. They crawl back to us on their hands and knees, begging us to take them back. They've gotten help. They're clean. Alcohol and anger free, and we believe it. We convince ourselves that things will be different this time. They really do love us, and maybe now they'll show us again if we just help them.

Things aren't different, however. They're worse than ever. Violence escalates, and we fear for our children, and not just ourselves. After all the abuse, the threats, the disrespect, we finally try to leave for good to protect our children from the madness. Except it's too late.

They get the gun from the closet, and shoot us as we're running for the door, crys of children echoing through the neighborhood...

Bioware doesn't have the gun yet. Get out while we still can.

Epic post

Firstly, Darkstar offered you you an apology -- and he didn't really have to, as it was a harmless analogy. One which perfectly represented how some of us feel about the situation. Nevertheless he was kind enough to do it.

Secondly, you, friend, need counselling if his quote affected you so. I am very sorry about whatever may have happened to you, to make you react as you did, but you should really seek help so you can get better. Much pain still remains, I believe. Good luck to you.

Why's everyone hating on EA anyway? They're doing what companies do, ie, making money for their shareholders.

The only problem with this auction is that it was supposed to be a "community" event, not that it particularly matters one way or another, games developers and publishers don't owe you anything other than the product you've paid for.

Owe? No. And to say they do owe us anything is arrogant./

But a relationship is built up between a company and its fans/ clients. The fans will inevitably develope an expectation based on their experience with the company and i think its fair to say that of recent, bioware has not met that expectation. Some will say its because of a drop in morality. Some a drop in quality.

Personaly i think its a combination of the two.

They haven't made a single penny  yet on this retarded auction and its  junk prizes..

And  shareholders keep a keen eye on the pissed off consumer.  Which is something that EA will soon learn, if they haven't yet.

So if you need an answer to your question, there it is.

You'd think we'd be used to scandals by now. Disasters too. Just look at the state government. ;)

Where do you think EA/Bioware is hiring their PR and Marketing people from:)

And it shows, considering.

I live just over the border and have been watching that "train wreck in motion" ever since your State Senate went AWOL last summer.

I find it funny that every law our state government passes is for NYC. Apparently no other cities exist in NY state. Because NYC is the only city with any benefits from anything that ever happens.

Oh, don't mind me. I just live in the nonexistant second biggest city in NY. I don't matter. :P (At least, last I checked it was the second biggest city in NY. Unless Albany has suddenly had a huge population influx.)
