Not to mention the fact that it's actually cheaper  in the US to ship something to the  biggest city in the USA  (NYC) than it is to ship it to, say,  Worland, Wyoming.  Yet the latter is elegible to compete in this Bazaar... and the former is not.

But you're still incapable of putting 1 and 1 together and realising that they're doing it for some economic reason rather than out of any particular malice.

Thats fine..but "some" of us...more than likely alot of us..wanted to participate...but we can't.   That was decided for us.

Is an online contest really that much of a big deal? I mean, just think about it for a minute.

That part is minor in comparison to being hyped and misled into thinking that it was an "epic community event"...with no other stipulations other than that statement.

Most people would take the company at their word.........wouldn't they? :)  And to state that they were putting on this event in honour of their 15 years ..and their fans.

Well being that 9/10ths of those fans are left out..you are left with the idea that ONLY the fans in those 48 states count for anything..the rest of us are just icing on the cake.

Indeed.  They're excluding New York because shipping costs are cheaper thereImage IPB

Gotcha.  You're making so much sense on this thread.

Yup thats pretty much it.  With offices in Canada..it surprises me however...STILL :P

Not just Canada, but all over the world, EA that is, not Bioware.

I don't disagree that it's a severe **** up by whoever is heading up this thing, and communication could have nipped this ****storm in the bud, but I can understand what's going on, and frankly the amount of stupidity and sense of entitlement I've seen in this thread is disgusting.

1.You've bought a game, you get tokens, great!

2. You get your friends/random strangers to click your referral you get tokens!

3.To clarify, you're not buying tokens.

4.You "bid", you win free stuff, which has been provided by the sponsors, great!

So to clarify, international laws on gambling/competitions etc do not apply, so as I said pages ago, it was a business decision by EA, pure and simple.

I'm not sure that this has been brought up, but I believe that an auction is the same thing as a lottery. International lotteries are illegal in the US. EA is based in the US therefore, all other countries would not be allowed. As for FL and NY? Perhaps there are laws that say that lotteries are not allowed from out of state.

Having said that....it is a bit wrong to have not made this abundantly clear ASAP. I understand your outrage.

Surely that explanation would of been simpler... to all non-us countries, anyhow.

Well there's where you and I disagree...I think (other than the trolls I have seen in this thread)  people have been expressing legitimate concerns here.

It is an epic community event, for those lucky enough to live in certain parts of America. They didn't falsely advertise or claim anything that was untrue.

Fact of the matter is, it's an advertising stunt that's gone wrong, they never cared about the community, they're just using people as a cheap way to advertise their products.

frankly the amount of stupidity and sense of entitlement I've seen in this thread is disgusting.

You just don't know when to quit, do you.

The fools putting on this "Bazaar" have SPECIFICALLY given the reasons for it:  To show their appreciation for the community.    Whether that's true, or whether its   a bold faced lie is Irrelevant.  What matters is that they  are on record giving  us, the community,  that sense of entitlement.

Get that through your THICK head now.

Again...its not a lottery....its not gambling....no laws apply....

Tax issues yes, import and export duty issues yes....but no legal issues regarding competition. Its free to enter, no money involved, no risk....

A sense of entitlement would mean that we are expecting something that was not promised us, but that we should get simply because we think it is ours to receive.

This 'epic community event' was hyped to the hilt, on many sites, and with a count-down clock implemented. It was to be a celebration, an honoring of their fans who appreciated Bioware for 15 years.

Now we find out that the honored fans live in the US. Unless they live in NY and FL. Then they are just as 'by the way' as the rest of the majority of customers.

Whoever had this 'brilliant' idea should be asked to find new employment. This is simply unacceptable, and comes off as arrogant and dishonest.

The sense of entitlement is theirs, not ours. They think that no matter what, the customers will shell out the money for their product.

All that could have been avoided if they had been honest and up-front. In general, people utterly dislike being shunned and treated like cash cows only.

^since, according to the rules, WE are responsible for paying the taxes on anything we win, I doubt Taxes and export duties are an issue either.

They probably won't Packard,  they'll let it go on til it dies a natural death.   After all April 6th isn't far from now..and I guess by that time most will have forgotten about it and moved on.

Seen this happen before...no response, no explanation..just silence.

Heh yup I agree..and to gain more customers of course..underneath all that. :)  They can get away with stating they didn't falsely advertise..perhaps.

But they did lead us on for five days straight..allowing us to believe this "epic community event" was for EVERYONE.     They can't get past that one.

Yrkoom...wel they could be, its just a guess.

Say I won the pc....I would be paying 17% tax on 2k, plus an import duty of 5% over £100 lol....

Could you see EA paying that for me? plus the shipping lmao/.....yes they could say onfce it hits your country, its your problem to pay for all the fee's (which would be fair enough)...but can you imagine the extra cost if almost everything went outside the mighty US of A?

You see legally, in order to hold this type of competetion (well any really)....thye must provide the goods they said they are offering.

So, with import duties etc....shipping to the UK (but not my home address) would actually be a breach of law...as I have niot actually 'received' my prize...

Its a technicality, but an issue I am damn sure EA are aware of and basically thought we cannot be arsed with the hassle. It is not a legal issue that they have excluded the RotW (and NY and Florida)....its just technical red tape that they could not be bothered organising, as others have said, Blizzard and other companies can manage it...so why not EA?

(and yes, I do know the law very very well btw >>>> directed to the fool that is jacquesct)....

That sums it up nicely, yes. We all feel like part of the community, especially those of us who have been playing Bioware games since BG1. So if Bioware advertises an event to show their appreciation to the community, is it any suprise that we expect to be included, being long-standing members of the community?
Really, playing Bioware games for well over 10 years, having been around Bioware boards for about 5 years, and then it gets implied I'm not a member of the community. <_<

The thing is that it most likely will die down as far as the outcry goes, but I very much doubt that people will forget this. It will always lurk in the mind, no matter what EA/Bioware come up with now. Being treated like this is not something that people can just shrug off.

Especially when there is no explanation or apology. It's far too late for an explanation, people will be very disinclined to believe anything coming from 'official' quarters now and probably for a long, long time to come. The best way to go would be an apology, but you are right. I don't see that coming either.

Trust and a good reputation are hard won and easily lost, a cliche, but nevertheless a true one. EA is good at destroying both in their customers, and then wonder why their sales slide downward. No, not for DA:O, I'm talking about all their labels across the board.

Will people quiet down? Yes.
Will they forget? No.
