Check your countries laws on that one bud Image IPB

From the T&C:

Prizes are not transferable. No substitution of prizes for cash or other goods and services is permitted, except Sponsor reserves the right to provide a substitute prize of approximately equal or greater value, if the advertised prize becomes unavailable. Specific details of games, including platform for play, T-Shirt sizes and the make/model of the prizes to be awarded are within the sole discretion of Sponsor and subject to availability. All taxes, including, without limitation, all federal, state and local taxes, and international tariffs, are the sole responsibility of the each individual winner. Any prize of $600 or more will require winner to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release. Failure to do this will result in forfeiture of your prize.

My countries laws are irrelevant, because I can't take part ;)

Good, now move on to spelling and grammar, it'll increase your credibility.

Have to be careful when taking on the role of spelling and grammar police, sometimes it turns the tables on you :D

To be all fair didn't bioware have a contest just for Canadians where the winner could go visit the hq, but it think you had to be an xbox 360 owner.

Canadians reiterate their response to being excluded from this offer...

(I think the lyrics are appropriate!)

I have been a huge BioWare supporter for close to 15 years now and the big issue here is communication.

When BioWare found out that this epic community event was only open to a small subset of their community they needed to manage expectations at that time.

A simple note saying "Our deepest apologies, EA has hit a legal snafu and this community event will only be open to these 48 states, we were working on something else for the rest of wonderful fans." , would have done wonders.

But they didn't do that.

They allowed excitement to build. They labeled it an Epic Community event. Come zero hour they had another opportunity to talk to the community and tell them about the about the snafu. "Hey due to some legal mumbo jumo with EA this contest is only open to a small subset of the community. We apologize for your dissapointment.  We should have communicated earlier but we only found out quite recently. We're working on something special to include all of our community." They didn't say that. They didn't say anything. They simply announced their epic community event.

We found out we weren' t included in the epic community event by reading a legal disclaimer -- we found out in the fine print. We were left with no explanation. No communication. Only that it was being billed as an epic community event but didn't include us.

So many reached the conclusion that since this is an epic community event and it doesn't include us we are obviously not part of the community. (Hence all the nifty banners)

I still love BioWare games. I have had the opportunity to interact with many employees of BioWare and they are wonderful folk.

But we are still lacking in communication.

I agree with you Alodar, this whole thing is a mess Bioware needs to do some damage control fast before they loose not only customers that according to them are not part of the community but also the ones that are.

I feel sorry for everyone that can't participate in this. The community
is not just part of America it is everyone around the world that is part
of this community and plays Biowares games. I don't know what Bioware
was thinking when they did this whoever is their head of marketing
should be fired, but what am I thinking that's EA so that won't happen.

They
should have made the tokens usable for special content for ME2,DAO, and
so on that everyone could have purchased with the tokens. That would
have took out overseas shipping and duty costs and taxes to other
countries and everyone I think would have been rather happy. It's not
like they had to make some massive DLC stuff, They could have just made
up some new armors and weapons for purchase.

In my
opinion they should auction all these prizes on e-bay, and take the
profits to pay programmers, and designers to make the special content that
all the community could enjoy. But of course the sponsors of this event
most likely wont let them do that because they want the exposure and
publicity from this event. Unfortunately any publicity from this is
going to be bad.

Um...

I'm in the US, so I'm "eligible" for this "event".

But you know what? I'm gonna skip it anyway. Too many hoops to jump through. I'm not chasing around twitter and facebook on a quest for tokens.

Sorry the rest of the community got burned on this. On principle, it's wrong. In practice, I don't think you're actually missing that much.

Full of "Meh!" IMO.

P.S.  We needs a thin US protest banner...

Agreed. A simple explanation, and an apology would have done much to cool things down. The complete silence on the matter only leads to speculation, agitation and the feeling that Bioware does not appreciate its fan base and feels that they can crap all over their own customers with abandon.

Bad enough that the customers have had to beta test the latest releases while waiting for weeks for a patch to fix the damage done by the previous patch. It all adds up to one big communications failure, and that is a public relations failure that only hurts Bioware's credibility in the marketplace.

I wonder if they would do something about this gigantic failure if most of the people eligible to participate simply didn't.. Since finding out about the exclusion of most of the community in this event (about ten minutes after I logged on and saw what the "event" was) I haven't participated. I think its BS. There are probably dozens (if not more) threads already of people saying how much they hate America because of this. This is definitely an EPIC FAIL. One hell of a way to bring the "community" together, Bioware (or whoever is responsible for this crap).

Somehow I doubt there will be an overall boycott...there are already some I have seen, attempting to cull clicks or votes for their prize.

Thats how it is.   Its really like attempting to herd cats..getting people together and agreeing on one course of action, especially over the internet, where everyone is pretty much anonymous. :)
