Can't believe bioware/EA still havn't said anything. Probably still arguing over who should be apologising. I vote EA.

I vote -ALL- of them. They all had plenty of opportunities to tell us it was America-only.

I think they will never apologize! I think they don't give a **** about us! As long as we give them money... And even if they apologize do you really think something will change? They'll say sorry we made a mistake and then maybe even the next DLC is for 50 US-states only or something like that...

Why Florida and New York Can't Play

In Florida Under the law, you should have an equal chance of winning, whether you purchase something or not.

Florida and New York require the sponsor to bond the sweepstakes equal to the total value of the prizes. Once the winners are announced, a winners’ list must be provided to the state(s) in order to release the bond.

Disclaimer: I'm committing the cardinal sin of not reading through the thread before posting, for which I apologise. To the point: while I am as miffed as the next person to be excluded from a community event because of my geographical position, I'd like to suggest that instead of being aggressive and blaming BioWare/EA/whoever, it would be more constructive to come up with ideas as to how these kinds of situations could be avoided in the future. What could BioWare do for the community that wouldn't divide us like this? Frankly, even if I was able to take part in the Bazaar, I wouldn't, because 1) I don't have the time or the energy to collect the tokens and 2) the way the whole thing is organised just smacks of cheap advertising for the company. Not so much a celebration of the community or the wonderful game career BioWare has.

So, any ideas for cooler ways to celebrate, everyone included?

You could create a new thread for that while we let our anger out on this one.

The mods keep deleting new threads regarding the subject, though. How about venting and proposing alternatives in each post?

I'd totally go first, but it's way past my bedtime.

I very much doubt we're ever going to get any decent reply to our protest. That's just not the way a major game publishing corporation like EA operates. They let people vent off some steam here on these threads for a few days or weeks at most, and then everything will be forgotten, or that is what they hope.

Then it's time for the next crisis, which I presume will be when they announce that all future BioWare titles are going to use a DRM so restrictive that it will put Ubisoft's attempts at preventing PC players from playing games they bought into shame. =]

From the glorious Mass Effect boards I bring you my attempt at finding a peaceful solution. Please quote the post below if you support this idea.

Kaiser Shepard wrote...

Alright, time to listen you lowly maggots.

We have raged on for long enough now. It is obvious we won't achieve anything with endlessly ranting and spamming. Thus let us use our powers for good instead of evil.

We know BioWare isn't an unreasonable company, neither is EA. How poor their choice of words to advertise this event may have been, there is nothing they can do to circumvent the laws that prevent a contest such as this one from being held worldwide.

But all hope is not yet lost:

Last year, during the final weeks of ye olde Mass Effect forum, BioWare gave us the
Gift of the Yeti Facebook game. Each play of the game had BioWare raise a penny for gamer children's charity Child's Play, up to a total of $10.000 USD.

What we ask of BioWare is to repeat this act of kindness. To allow not only every ineligible member of the community, but also every willing legible one to donate his or her Tokens to Child's Play. Whatever a single Token might be worth in US or Canadian dollars is up to BioWare (and EA, I guess) to decide, the same goes for the maximum amount of money set aside for donation.

In the end, this solution will likely prove to be the best for each of the involved parties: BioWare/EA can not only set this incident/miscommunication straight, but also get some good publicity out of this. The community members which were not allowed to participate, can participate for a good cause. And let us not forget Child's Play, which will be allowed to help even more children.

We have saved Ferelden from the Darkspawn, we have fought for the lost, now let us Fight for the Children.

I know many of you have been waiting for word from BioWare on the BioWare Bazaar and our Community. Sorry to make you wait, but we wanted to make sure you understood how important all of our Community are to us. As such, we went right to the top for a response.

See this thread:

It's something anyways...I feel slightly put at ease. Thanks though Bioware for responding.

After re-reading this apology I must say it is very "official"  Ala Tiger Woods, Jesse James style apology. I'm not buying it.  They would have known the rules before coming up with this contest.

Hold up the stone and look under it. This problem -Yeah community event- start by EA. Not really BioWare. This is all of EA's fault... EA is my least favorite company as always. And with this. Well, world is better place without EA lol....

P.s. They make only one good thingie. Helping BioWare.... But they reduce BioWare's prestige with last move...

Should the members not included in the original contest be collecting tokens now, or will it reset when it is our turn?

Mine too that is a splendid idea!

Regarding the explanation, it's better late than never but it's definitely bad PR and I maintain that it could have been handled better.

Now what about patches, DLCs and sequels rather than tokens and stuff? I'd rather spend my hard earned money on new content than waste my time with online auctions and prizes I don't need.

Because of this URL loophole and it not having any sort of hard cap, it's completely destroyed the contest. You could register all games, or take all questionaires, create a character, and by some holy act of god win every single challenge, and even meet the 500 token daily URL quota, and your still not going to have a snowball's chance in hell of competing with guys like him that either cheated or somehow have the ability to get those kinds of hits.

That's sad because it means you could just come off the street, never even played a Bioware game or contributed to a forum and win the best prizes without anyone being able to even compete with you.

I'm sorry, but that's just not the way to run a contest.

(in reference to the guy that already has over 24,000 points (from over 19,000 clicks)

Sums it up perfectly.
