Just because it's a community event doesn't mean it's a community WIDE event, but that it isn't available to those who don't take part in the community.

Then why was it on MY bio page along with everyone else's?

If they were going to be SELECTIVE and only choose PREFERRED customers to participate..then they should have only advertised this "EPIC" event in the continental USA...

This event just fails in so many ways, and definitely lowers my esteem for Bioware and its marketing ploys.

Then everyone would be complaining that not only were they excluded, but BioWare was trying to HIDE it from them!!!

Really, this is one of those damned if you did damned if you didn't situations. The only way they could have made everyone happy would have been to find a way to include everyone. I can't speak as to why they didn't, I'm guessing it has to do with laws in various countries and the use of the points system. *shrugs* Do I personally, think it would have been better for it to have been a world wide event? Or for them to have seperate events for sections of the world? Sure, but I can see how that might not have been feasable. Do I understand why people are upset? Absolutely! I'm just trying to be a voice of reason in the maelstrom of ****storm that is this thread atm. People are taking this way too personally.

you can't be serious. When unfair things happen, it is the only right thing to openly talk about it.
Of course i am taking it personally if I've spent hundreds of dollars over the years on their products.

I never said people shouldn't talk about it, but the claims that BioWare hates country xx or their non-american fans is inappropriate and certainly takes away from any point the person was trying to make, as they sound over-reactive and combative.

I don't see anywhere that I implied people shouldn't discuss it.

It's just funny, how true fans going mad because of some bazaar.

Hum if you buy a product and you are part of a community is normal do be angry, is not the bazaar per se is more how things were done.

It is just like the dr poper or paper for Mass Effect, if you buy a game you expect to be include in all of it or the possibility to acquire the extra content.

If you going to thank the community with a bioware birthday party do you think is normal to just include 30% off that community, should they be doing something  that can be give to anyone? like online content or something, this is just wrong.

In English this time, am I the only one taking April Fool's into consideration here?

Probably, because today it isn't April 1, it's March 29...
And April Fool's doesn't exists in every country, only in a few ones. In Spain and a lot of other European countries, April Fool's isn't celebrated. So... where's the joke in something not celebrated in most of the countries where the joke should be funny?

Jokes usually start up before hand and then come to fruition or are revield as jokes on the 1st, and while yes it isn't a world wide holiday it is still widely celebrated. Besides, it not being celebrated in all countries has never stopped Blizzard.

Im wondering guys...where is an official Bioware respond? Ill be satisfied if they write something emm I dunno.... "Sorry, dear fans but we ve just screwed you up exept the American ones (neither all of them really)"

Official response?

Unless its Stanly Woo, who's not in this department. forget it, our community managers have been ignoring a lot of late, like the PM's Ive sent them and the forum thread now 15 days old on why those of us who bought Jade empire from the Bioware store can no longer activate it.

Unless its to close a thread don't be expecting much

/bitterness off -> much better :)

Come on Bioware you are better than this right?

As a loyal customer that has purchased every single game, expansion and DLC Bioware published since the times of Baldurs Gate 1, i would like to extend my congratulations for the anniversary and my thanks to Bioware for forgetting to invite us loyal, but obviously marginal European customers, to the party.

Thank you very much. For nothing, as usual.

The problem is not that it is US specific, but that it was advertised as a community event, making no mention of regional issues. The feeling we are left with is that we are not a part of the community.

A simple "Americans only" tag under the "Epic community event" writing would have been enough for most of us to take one glance, stop caring and then go on our merry way. Hell most of us are so used to seeing something like that we would have forgotten it within a day instead of looking forward to it all week.

This.

I'm not as upset about not being able to participate, as I am because they mislead and hyped up the event without even so much as a say so as to who is eligible for the event.

What he said  - They should have warned us. I DO understand that they have legal problems, and THE Whole World event is virtually impossible to organize, but  is it so difficult to place ONE line on the site ?

Congratulations BioWare. Not at your 15th, but at your epic community fail event. Not sure if your marketing department or perhapps your community crew knows their job. I mean im pretty sure that pissing people off is bad either way. Turning a happy event - your 15th - into a big dissapointment that overshadows the reson to celebrate in the first place.

Hopefully you can and have an intrest in addressing the issue so that we can celebrate.

Perhaps they'll give more thought to creating suspense over a supposedly "epic" event that turned out not so epic after all...other than epic disappointment for a good part of their customer base.

Oh. My. God.

[Begin Rant]

Do you all really think that Bioware wanted to make this a US only thing? Their own company works in canada. This is not because Bioware hates its fans, its because most of their fans most likely do live in the US. EA is the parent company of Bioware, meaning that most of the money to pay for the swag is most likely coming from EA in some form or another. There are LAWS and shipping practices that make over seas shipping a royal pain in the ass, the cost of shipping a computer from California (where is most of this stuff most likely is) to Virginia is cheaper then shipping it to another nation.

At the same time, alot of bureaucratic BS gets in the way. Most contests I see online for other game companies, like Blizzard for example (a company with a strong online/international community but based in California) their contests are similar in nature, only to the US or North America, and a handful of other countries here is an example http://www.worldofwa...test-rules.html

"THIS CONTEST IS OPEN ONLY TO RESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, AND NEW ZEALAND, WHICH ARE: (i) OVER THE AGE OF MAJORITY IN THEIR COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE ON THE DATE REFERENCED BELOW AS THE START DATE FOR THE CONTEST; AND (ii) WHO ARE NOT RESIDENTS OF THE STATES OF NORTH DAKOTA, VERMONT, CONNECTICUT, OR MARYLYAND IN THE UNITED STATES; THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC, CANADA; OR RESIDENTS OF THE AUSTRALIAN STATES OF VICTORIA, QUEENSLAND OR THE AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY"

As you can see, this contest has a larger base, but still cuts out europe. Basically what I am trying to say with all of this, is that countries, nations, entire continents are usually cut out of contests for various reasons, so stop taking it so personally.

Yes it sucks that Bioware hyped up the most likely EA sponsored event to all international fans, only to have it US only.

Yes it sucks that it is open only to US fans.

Yes it sucks it general, but **** like this is ALWAYS HAPPENING.

I'm not saying that they have handled this situation perfectly, and considering the fact that your response is anything, but inflammatory you definitely aren't in the group I was addressing. I can totally get behind your feelings on this. Heck, I'm offended on behalf of Canadians, specifically, the last time they did something and excluded Canada I was a bit baffled, this time I'm totally BWUHing at it, because they are the company's mother country, it is just too damn weird to me.

I'm just saying that, 1. People need to calm down with the hate accusations and 2. Don't blame the whole company for something EA's marketing dep't has done. ((Personally, I think their marketing dep't has it's head up it's ass, but I've thought that for a verrrry long time, this is just another tick on the list.))
