I was new to mass effect when part 2 came out. Never played the first part, but I wanted to the check the game (mass effect 2) out, because it looked like an interesting game.

So i got the game, and I'm already on my third playthrough =)  I really like the game but during my third playthrough, I really felt like I missed out on not playing Mass Effect 1. So last week I got MEt 1 from Steam. Today I finished my first playthrough and I was really excited to get my ME 1 character uploaded to Mass Effect 2 and see how the decisions I made in ME1 would effect the game.

So I started up ME2, clicked on new game/career and then on import/upload (whatever) function. But to my surprise, I was not able to select my ME1 character to start a ME2 game with. All I got was an empty screen with no selectable ME1 careers.

How did this happen? And (how) can I fix this?
Do I have to move my ME1 save files to a ME2 directory or something in order select a ME1 career in ME2?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

nvm, I've found a guide on how to import ME1 characters.
