Of that four shotguns we get, only the Evi and Claymore rip through shields and that's still only a 1.25x damage boost.
And you have to download the Evi, so, no, shotguns don't already tear through shields any more than any other weapon does.
But to each his own, I guess...

Acually the other 2 shotguns have a 1.5x boost against shields.

Perhaps you're thinking of armour.



Shotguns + Heavy Incendiary Ammo makes armour a non-issue too...
