Ok so I played the game fine up until this point. I got past a few waves of the zombie guys (at the top of the hill) and then they just stopped...
Waited up the hill for about 15 minutes and still nothing.
Walked up into the smoke and looked for a rogue zombie, nothing.
Walked all around up that hill searching every square inch I could, nothing.
Walked down the hill to go and see if maybe one ran down; worst idea ever because the game autosaved and now I am completely stuck because I can't even go back and try this again.
For the sake of easing my mind I even looked all around the bottom level to try and trigger/find ANYTHING that could bring an end to this. Alas, wishfull thinking on my part.
I'm surprised you guys haven't fixed this game breaking bug sooner, it's not like it hasn't been brought to your attention before... It wouldn't even be a difficult fix (err workaround I suppose)... simply enabling a way to enter the console for PS3 would eliminate the symptom of the bug (if you guys don't actually feel like fixing it...) and pacify the ones who run into the problem.
Are there currently any workarounds for the PS3 version of this bug? (PC one has the console for a workaround)
Please don't respond saying "you're missing a zombie!" because I'm not, I've been at this for almost 2 hours now and I am 100% sure there is no rogue zombie here, just a bug that needs to be addressed and taken care of as it should have been several months ago when the issue first arose. (the fact rogue zombies even exist is another bug in itself... but that's another story)
Condensed version:
I am stuck at the first part of The Attack at Nightfall quest where you are still up on the hill prior to the archer showing up and telling me to move down to the bottom level. Zombies stopped spawning, There are no rogue zombies. Unable to go back and retry. Any help aside from the "There is a rogue zombie" is greatly appreciated.
Strange thing I noticed is that right now the fire from the oil
doesn't damage me... I can stand in it and take no damage at all. I
don't know if it did before the bug but I've stood in it as I typed
this and I am still not taking any damage
8 hrs playtime so far, don't want that to turn into a regrettable 8 hrs of my life that I'll never get back (as well as a wasted $60 on a fancy looking frisbee)

That is weird, never even heard of that bug but i guess you could try reloading from an earlier save if you have one.

8 hours?
So you're maybe 10% of the way into the game?

Unfortunately I am without a back up save file to fall back on and retry the quest with...
ya, it said i was through about 12% of the map i think so 10% completion is probably about right most likely even less because I was doing side quests and kind of exploring around
The fact is:
I shouldn't have to replay through 8 hours or even 1 hour because of a bug on Bioware's part, this should have been fixed by now and wasn't. I can link to several threads on this website describing the problem and Bioware has been shrugging it off

I've had this happen plenty. Either by the windmill or next to the Chantry. I got in the habit of having a back up save for areas where this was prone to happen.
My quick fix was to kiss Alistair, I kid you not. Somehow the animation kick starts the game again. There were only a few times this didn't work, and for those instances I would have to shut down my PS3 and use my back up save.

You can also give a companion a gift that will trigger a cutscene. Those also return all your companions to full health, even if they're already down and you're in the middle of combat. Four such gifts immediately spring to mind, and one of them is actually found in Recliffe.
