I just finished my play through of Awakenings with my FH rogue who married Alistair and became Queen, and I have read a few posts about the epilogues about the FH's who were queens and none of them, including mine, disappear with Alistair in the end snippet :'(  My question is why? I don't see how it makes sense really, considering I even hardened him in Origins (although i didn't really have to) so he's more likely to follow me, I don't see how he wouldn't come with me, or I go with him.  I have also read that other romance lines with Alistair (ie magies) he does run off with them... so he'll go with his mistress but not his wife? i know i'm probably reading way too much into it, and i know it's only a game, but its really took a lot of 'oomph' out of the game for me, especially if/when there is another expansion comes out that follows on from this and i end up Alistairless

Unless this is a bug (possible), it might be due to who has the throne. I married Alistair to Anora, and was his mistress, and he still ran off with me in the epilogue (both epilgues, in fact - I had it in Origins too). I presume he left Anora to rule on her own. But if this happens even with Alistair as sole ruler, then I have no idea what's up.

We had to have him sleep with our best friend, knock her up with a demon baby while we are barren, got screwed with the snow globe... we just want to disappear together and be happy. Maybe go to the Kocarri Wilds, and live in Flemeth's hut.

Edit - Not to mention that the whole DR took place in MY bed!!!!!  Just keep rubbin that salt in the  wounds

I always liked Flemeth's hut, too. I'd settle there. Except I can't help thinking there might be mosquitoes.

I'd like to hear the answer to this question, too. I've never done a human female past 12 or so, but it seems unfair. (I did try the mod that drops the HNF requirement - ie, a dwarf male can marry him, if you're so inclined, though I don't use that save. I just wanted to see how it went without having to level a human girl) If he's supposed to stay on because he's king, then why does he run off with his mistress?

The Wife seems to get a rather dismal ending. Fair question!


And let me just add, after Awakening (which has some great things about it), I think I have to admit, it's the Alistair tenderness & emotion that kept me playing over & over. (even though 2 of my main 3 were males) His fate concerns many.

The wilds are very cold, I don't think the mosquitoes will be a problem ... just the random Dark Spawn

Is Thedas Southern Hemisphere-ish? It did seem north is warm, south is cold.

I don't think this is Mr. Gaider's area, to be honest. It seems like a limitation of the epilogue cards and/or the triggers for those. That vague disappearance card shows up for Kings, Queens and those who didn't end Origins in a relationship with anyone.



Whatever game comes next will probably start the same way as Awakening- with all PC's in the same place and same situation. If Alistair is involved, I honestly doubt that he'll be a factor in everyone's game except for those who are his queen.

I just thought with him being a writer, well 'the' writer he may have had his hand in the epilogue cards as well... so he's the one i shall be a badgerin' Plus he seems to come by the boards a lot as well so i hope he may comment... but i'm probably grasping at straws  

i've convinced myself to playthrough again... this time not hardening him and choosing the 'rebuilding the grey wardens' option in the final chat to see if that fixes it.... this will be my 4th hfn lol and i thought i was going to play through on my mage next lol

I assume that it was just a bug in the game, but if we need a reason for why he'll disappear with his mistress but not his wife....

Maybe they disappeared together because they finally realized that Alistair being married to Anora/the prospect of him marrying some other noble woman in the future was too hard on them, so they decided to just leave and be together.

Or, since in the mistress ending when you stay in Denerim says he goes off to Weishaupt, maybe the mistress goes after him after getting sick of waiting for him to come back, and that's how they disappear? The mistress doesn't really have anything keeping her in Ferelden after all - even if you're chancellor, he has other chancellors (wynne) as well, so you're not THAT important. If you're queen, you's probably feel you have more of a duty to rule when he's not there.

Well, if you want to be queen, that is the perfect reason. I just thought some wanted to just have the "encounter" with Alistair, like those with the Zevran or Morrigan crushes.

I don't understand?  If you wanted to be Queen to Alistair's King why would you want to run off and disappear with him?  Wouldn't you want to stay in Ferelden and, well, be King and Queen?  An ending where the King and Queen run off and abandon their country (possibly leading to a civil war) would seem bad.  If you want to run off with Alistair don't you want to leave the throne to Anora so you can do your thing?

You have Anora beheaded, and Fergus put in charge beforeyou dissappear. But the point is, if anyone had their druthers, they WOULD stay in Dennirum - but that isn't an option.  If dissapearing is inevitable, people want to disappear with thier love(especialy since solo King Al dissapears with his love).

Honestly I'm not much of a fan of the whole "the Warden disappears" in the epilogue thing in general. I had it in my mind that my character was a rather dutiful Warden, I mean maybe they're just trying to set up that it will be a new character in the sequel, but I'd still like to think that my Warden stayed and did her duty.



This was with my CEF btw, so not the exact same situation, but still.

I actually think it sets it up more to be the same character in the sequel, but having adventures in Orlais or somewhere. I think if it were gonna be a different character, it would be more satisfying for everyone if the epilogue just said, "and you and alistair ruled ferelden until you died, leaving no heirs." or something...

The whole vanishing ending does give the writers a fair bit of leeway should they have the next game in Orlais or some location besides Ferelden. That is if we (hopefully!) are still playing as the Warden in DA2...Or it could be setting up another expansion pack too I guess

Or it could be that the whole "disappears" thing means that their time has come and they make the trek to the deep roads without holding a press conference.
